We found this trip a horrible was of time and money, the food was very low quality, each night they served us the same food, in fact it was the same food during lunch and dinner. Their "A la carte" dinning was a joke, they served the same food with the same poor quality at the main buffet style, their dessert was a bigger portion of more of the same, my wife ordered a cappuccion type dessert and what they brought out was a disgusting grey blob of jelly! If you love eating dolphin, they server the same stuff each day, they can't cook rice, each time it was brought out it was dry as well, not to mention their tiny slices of dry chicken! If you enjoy eating, stay away from this place because they can't cook anything well. Their food is (mostly) bland and has no taste. What I also found annoying was their staff, other than the manager and the few people at the entrance no one speaks English!!! Not even the staff when you go to eat. You ask for tea and they take forever to server it too you, but you see them at other tables serving water? The bring the tea and forget the milk and you end up waiting another 10 min while you see them walking around with water?
The hotel does not have a "snack" place, they put out tea, coffee and a few cookies and muffins, when they are gone no one brings out more. So most of the time you walk around hungry, nothing to snack on in between their poor quality food!
We found Samana very humid, and our hotel room even with the air condition on never felt cool. We had sleepless nights, I experienced headaches while their which seem, my wife had mild stomach cramps! We were both care not to drink any of their water, my wife was ill after eating their "A la carte" dinner the first night.
If you need to leave Samana Province for any type of emergency you will be hard pressed to find a flight out, if you're ill and you need to get out of the country you will have a hard time getting out when you need to in a hurry. For this reason alone I'd go some place else. Suffice to say we left our vacation early, it was a very unpleasant experience! We had to take a 3.5 hrs drive that cost us $150 to catch a flight out to NYC and then we had to pay for another flight back to Toronto. We stayed in NYC for a few days and loved it there, we could eat all kinds of delicious food, walk around, talk to people. We ended up paying so much for this vacation that we didn't enjoy and would like you warn others to pick some please else to go. This will be the last "All inclusive" vacation we'll ever take!
Also we will never ever take any vacation from this "Canadian airline" we don't want to mention, they actually sold people food on a 3+ hour flight. Not even a free drink was offered. This "airline" did all it could to sell us and other over priced excursion. When we needed help to leave the place early all they lip-service from our guide turned into you're on your on, go help yourself online.
We vacationed in Jamaican and that was a wonderful vacation, compared to this place it was like night and day in terms of food, climate quality and staff.
I give this vacation package and most of all the "Grand Bahia Principe" hotel a FAIL!
The take-away should be don't try to save a few dollar, go some place else that is fun, enjoyable and one where you will find a quality night sleep. None of this is available at this resort!
Also Samana is a very isolated place, it's in the middle of nowhere so it you like to venture about this is truly not that kind of place. We walked into town 3 times, people in general are nice but it's a sad place, with really nothing to do!
My advice is ask yourself why you're picking this place of everything else that's available to you, is it to save money? you think the place is isolated so it will be nice? Here you will find you're burning you money for a low quality vacation and experience.
All you will experience at this place is humidty from the moment you arrive and it will never leave...
