We spent 2 weeks here over Christmas and New Year 2013. We upgraded on the Dreamliner which was well worth doing for the comfort and avoiding the queues at immigration. However after a 10 hour flight we did then have a 4 hour transfer down to Cayo Levantado, despite being told its only 2 hours! It was a very tiring and painful bus journey.
You get then boat over to the island - only takes 10 mins and once you arrive you forget the journey.
The Rep meeting the first morning was, for a change, useful and informative. The trips weren't worth the money and didn't warrant leaving the island - we did hear rumours of people cancelling bookings.
At the hotel watch out for the Loyalty club sales people - we avoided them but did see some guests being collared.
We stayed in a Junior Superior room which was in one of the villas around the island. The room was enormous with a big bathroom area and the only fault is that the TV is too small for the size of the room.
Views and grounds were amazing, pools are really clean, and there are no issues with getting sunbeds at any time of the day.
The hotel private beaches were lovely however the public beach isn't worth the hype - just really commercialised.
The staff are really friendly even without tipping. We did notice some people are rude to the staff -manners do not cost anything!
Overall the drinks are good quality and good selection of cocktails. The Lobby bar was fairly quiet in the evenings, but after that closes the bar on the public beach becomes all inclusive until late.
Food was varied - the best Al La Carte was Don Pablo followed by the Italian. Didn't think much of the Mediterranean restaurant. Our only criticism is that some f fthe buffet food was cold, and sometimes the themes night were hit and miss.
The resort was quite hilly and you will burn off the cocktail calories by walking around! We did use some of the facilities - tennis, the gym, and had a catamaran lesson which was really good.
At the airport for the return journey just be aware that they are very strict on the baggage allowance and will charge $25 per KG over the exact limit.
I would highly recommend a stay here - the hotel and island is lovely and it is a perfect place to relax and spend some quality time together.
We stayed in Villa 11 - good views, quiet location. Some villas are further away and quite a walk to...
