We stayed at cayo Levantado April 4-11, and honestly we should have been there for 2 weeks.
We were dropped of at the main land, at around 10:30pm, but for some reason the Hotel was not expecting us, we waited there for over an hour, with nothing offered to us, we had to ask for a drink of water. I think our air canada rep Joel should have called the Resort, when we were dropping off people at the first resort, and told them to expect us, and have a boat waiting.
Once getting to the resort around 12am, there was no cold cloth, no welcome drink. Just a booklet handed with your Villa number, and your form to fill out. Sort of a non personal experience.
We finally arrived at our Villa 15102, it was so musty smelling, I honestly thought I would not be able to stay there, bed was also so damp it actually felt wet. Morning brought a new day, I think we were just so tired from the night before, Our view from our Villa was obstructed by trees, but I liked it, could see the ocean, and the sun was never on our patio, so it kept things a little cooler out there. We left our Villa patio door open and it took out the musty smell, by the next night, the bed was much more comfortable. We spent every morning out there, having tea and coffee listening to the birds and the ocean, so relaxing. Our Villa was cleaned everyday by Elvin, and he was a hoot, always smiling, and singing, we left a tip everyday for him, and also a tip for the Bar man. We left a note asking 4 cervasa por favor, and he always left 4 for us. It was nice to go back to the Villa at around 10pm and have a drink on the patio, with my parents.
The 2 beaches are paradise, we loved that there was sometimes only 10 people in the water, sometimes it was only us. We usually went to the calm side, but did venture to the windy side, where the waves sometimes knocked you over, but had fun. There is some coral so we were glad to have our water shoes. Always found a shaded area, with chairs, even at 11am.
We never went into the pool near the beach. Our usual spot, was the upper pool at around 3pm til they closed at 6pm. We brought our own floaties, that had the back on them like a chair, actually we left them there for all the people to use, once we were gone, just left them in the towel house right by the pool. We hope someone is enjoying them right now! There were always clean beach towels, anytime you needed one. Bar Service was great at the beach and the pool bar.
Buffet at main building was amazing, always found something delicious to eat. Breakfast there was alot of choice, loved their hash browns. We ate usually at the Lower beach Pool Buffet for lunch, quite a bit of choice, from Pizza to cold soup. We tried these little deep fried crab stuffed finger food, and I really liked them. Main Buffet for super, was always excellent, and the cook to order meat was very good to have, the hubby likes, his meat well well done. One thing I must mention, for the salad bar, there is little salad dressing to choose from, mostly oils,
Next time we go we will bring some of the single serving dressing from home that we like. My favorite desert was the rice pudding, but it was only there 2 nights. Most of the deserts are for presentation, taste lacks. We ordered room service on night, and the nachos are just chips with melted cheese, we did not eat them. Mom and Hubby had the club with fries and they said it was good, I had the chicken it was great, Dad had the Burger, and he said it was fine. Came to the room within 45 min, and the food was pretty hot. One thing at the Buffet, the food is not as hot as we would like it to be, things seem to get a little cold sitting there.
Don Pablo, was the only a la carte we ate at, for my parents 50th wedding anniversary, prince and princess was good, the table was set up with flower petals, and a bucket with champagne
they brought out a chocolate cake with Happy Anniversary on it, my parents were so happy! Very Nice touch that the resort did to make their night a little more special.
They were so nice to all of us. My father and Hubby played the morning games and afternoon games, darts, horseshoe, and some sort of beach bowling. Dad won some rum, and coffee, Hubby won coffee. The animation team got to know them pretty well, and by the 4th days they were calling "RICKEY" every time they seen dad day and night. They were calling my husband ROCKY cause they said he looks like Stallone... I don't see it! Haha, One guy seen dad and called him Snow man, cause of his white hair, and white legs!!! Mom and I tried BINGO BONGO, never won but the guy calling the numbers was a hoot.
There was no shows outside the Lobby for the first 4 nights we were there it was at the public beach, never went down there at night we were to tired. Did see on our last night the Magic show, and somethings the entertainer did there was amazing, some was just joking around, but it was funny and made us laugh.
We went to the public beach area to shop, some are way to pushy for my liking, but the guys that are set up in the first 2 as you come off of the resort, is the best, he let us look and never started with "CHEAPY CHEAPY YOU BUY today and it is cheap. He just let us look, and we bought, many t shirts, and jewelry from him, and a painting in which I love. No pressure! He was the best, and he came down on his prices quite a bit.
We had an amazing time here at Cayo Levandato, and will be back for another vacation in the near future. The staff were all amazing, and a Special Thank you to little Maria, 6 months prego, she remembered us from the very first Breakfast, and always got my tea and milk to the table and my husbands coffee poured the way he likes it, before we were back to our table with our food. I am hoping when we go back she will be there, and hear about her new baby.
As far as this Privilege Club, only once they came to us, but we told them we already attended a presentation last year, which we did not, but a little white lie helped, and we were never bothered again.
We Loved Loved this resort, the unique tranquil setting was exactly what we all wanted.
I must say, this is one of the resorts both my husband and I said we would go back to in a heartbeat. We usually only stay in an adults only resort, even though this one is turning Adults only in May, there were a few children here, but they were so well behaved, it was like they were not there.
As I am writing this I am missing Cayo even more, thank you Luxury Gran Bahia Principe for the wonderful memories, and making us feel like home. We will see you all again soon!
