“Amazing hotel, amazing staff!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

My husband, daughter and I just returned from this wonderful paradise!!
I can not say enough great things about this resort. Food was great... never went hungry thats for sure!!! Beach and pools were amazing. The rooms were clean.
Oh and did I mention the staff? The staff I would say made the trip!!! Reception was on the ball and willing to help with anything we needed.
One staff member in particular who made my daughters day was a waiter/bartender by the name of Jose Beltran. He made her a non alcohol drink special for her and told her he was going to name the drink after her. Now for a 4 year old, you can only imagine how excited she was haha! She still talks about her new best friend Jose every day!!
I would recommend this hotel for everyone who is looking for a dream vacation!!

Just returned from 2 weeks at Now Larimar. Overall found this a great hotel. We stayed in the Gardenview rooms and had a poolview which was great. These rooms are in a separate building from the main lobby/building. It is only a 5 minute walk to the main lobby or carts are constantly running to shuttle you to the main bldg. Then a 5 min walk thro the main bldg complex to the beach. Found this no problem at all to get out and walk as we spend so much time sitting and lounging at the beach all day. The gardenview rooms have their own pool and pool bar, buffet breakfast/lunch and Capers (Italian) at night. This area is much much more quiet that main pool and they have umbrellas around the pool. There are NO umbrellas at main pool unless you are at the preferred side. Only a few shade wooden structures at main pool. The beach area was busy I think mainly for people to get some shade from palapas on the beach.
Restaurants: Capers excellent - large portions!! Bluewater Grill - the best food and service our group found. Spice - Tappanyaki tables - Ok, not fantastic - too much food. Mercure - Shrimp and steak very good, service not so good. Sandals and long pants for men at all except Merure which men need closed toe shoes (ie runners or dress shoes) Saw men in blue jeans as acceptable for long pants. Quite frankly do not understand the need for closed toe shoes for men.
The gardenview bartender - Azumellis (?) 8 months pregnant was fantastic and friendly and took EXCELLENTE CARE of our Canadian group. She is the best bartender and her male co-worker working the pool bar was Excellente also and remembered your favorite drink by your go cup.
Overall a great hotel, clean, clean, great grounds, free safe, coffeemaker and stocked fridge in room a plus. Complaint of room - no dresser with drawers to put stuff in - only shelves in closet and lack of counterspace around the sink. Great balcony, with tub, table and 2 chairs. Asked for bathrobes, slippers and alarm clock and received (were not initially in our room). Check in was a bit confusing and some in our group did not get a room until after 7:00 pm and 1 couple assigned a room which was "occupied". Airconditioning was actually too cold for us.
No problems with the buffets but found breakfast better at Gardenview area.
Went on Tour to Catalina Island (Air Transat rep) and had a great day. It was a long day but well worth the $$ and time. Snorkling was very good. Also went on Fun Buggy Tour and got poured rain on at first but still had a great time.

Dear Now Larimar Valued Guest,

Thank you for sharing your comments on our TripAdvisor community. It is always a pleasure to hear feedback from our guests. We are happy to learn that you enjoyed our Garden view section. However we are upset, that the service you received in our French Restaurant Mercure was not to your liking. As well please accept our apologies for the fact, that some of your friends were given the wrong room. We would like to take this time and thank you for your compliments on Azumellis and we look forward to welcoming you again!

We found everything to be fantastic at this resort. Even the weather was good . Only rained for a few minutes twice during the seven days we were there. They have a big beautiful beach with lots of huts and a huge main pool that was always nice and clean. The room was large and had a comfortable bed, a stocked bar fridge, a whirlpool tub on the balcony, and had a flat screen tv. The whole resort was well looked after with nice pools and fountains. We also noticed that there were no bugs bothering us indoors or outdoors. Different activities were always on the go at beach and pool areas with an outstanding entertainment team that were really friendly. They get to know you after a while. Chiquilin, Karen, JC, Eddy Murphy, Chocolate, Mickey Mouse and Winnie were like old friends at the end of the week. They put on fantastic evening shows and also dance with people when the music is on at the Plaza or the disco. They had the Swedish band Jeerk fly in on the beach one day and do a concert at the Theatre that night. The only reservation we had to make was at the Japanese restaurant. All of the restaurants we went to - the Mexican, the Italian, the American, the French and the Japanese as well as the buffet and Barefoot grill were all excellent. Also need to mention Rhadamane at the Moments bar was awesome and made us Grasshopper drinks a couple of times after dinner. We didn't use the spa service. The gym was decent. I think there were four treadmills there and didn't have to wait long to get one. The bus ride from the Airport was about 30 minutes. Would definitely recommend this resort.

We chose NOW Larimar for what we thought was going to be a luxury resort, but it is far from it. The food is average at best. Capers was the only good restaurant and Patricio, Henry and Jameson are top notch. During our stay the Preferred Club bldg. that we were in was switched to Secrets and there was nothing but confusion. There was also a lot of renovating going on and there was a lot of noise, no phone for 3 days, removed picture from wall, had AC issues. We had a older room and it was average at best. Enrique and Judelkis at the Sand Bar were great, as was Carmen and Lissette in the Pref. Club Lounge. Marcelino was very helpful at the end of our stay. Unfortunately, will not return.

Room Tip: The Preferred Club (Secrets) pool view rooms have a nice view and are close to the beach.

This place is great. The whole resort is beautiful and the food, entertainment, staff, beach and pools are amazing. This place was dedicated 100 percent to making sure my wife and our friends were having a great time every second we were their...my only complaint is that the bathroom had a big open window that connected it to the rest of the room but I had seen them putting glass in some of the other rooms so hopefully that willbhappen to every room. If you can you should pay the extra dollars to get a ocean view room..amazing view. Watch out at the casino as some dealers have trouble counting and paying out properly but it wasn't a huge issue.5 out of 5

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2013

Our family (husband, wife and two boys 13 and 16) travelled to the Dominican the first week of February. This is the first time we've been in the Dominican and the first time at a Now resort. Compared to our experiences with the Beaches Hotels in Jamaica, I would consider the Now Larimar a comparable if not better hotel. I'm a picky eater but I did manage to find enough to eat, and my husband and boys thought the food was good - better then at Beaches. I have two main complaints, first we paid for the preferred club services (did it at the hotel, which was much cheaper then booking ahead of time), and it was definitely not worth the money. We had a private concierge (Davis) that was helpful when we checked in and the following day when we had to change rooms, then we never saw him again (yes, we did tip generously, but maybe not enough?). His "personal" number is just the number to the preferred club lounge, and they were not very helpful. The preferred pools were nice, but they were so quiet - if that is what you are there for then you will enjoy them- but they seem so out of touch with what is going on in the main pool. The preferred areas on the beach were no different then the other areas, and really were open to anyone. The drinks that we received in the minibar and the bathroom amenities were no different then what was in a standard room so what is it we paid for? Lesson learned.

My real main complaint revolves around activities and service for our teenage boys. We choose this resort because it listed a lot of activities and a specific teen group, which we thought would help to keep them occupied. First off the baseball batting cage was broken as was the harness for the trampoline, we never saw the ocean trampoline that was advertised and they charge for any of the water sports (banana boat rides etc...), except for the catamaran. Everyday the event calendar listed numerous activities for the teens, however ever time we went to where the activity was suppose to be taking place, there was nothing going on. One time we asked one of the entertainment people if the event was going to take place they said that no one showed up - well we did, and I'm sure others tried as well. The entertainment team did a really good job persuading adults to participate in the games and activities, but they never tried to involve the kids. My son even tried to join in one of the games and he was told it was for adults only. Having been to the two Beaches Hotels in Jamaica, we've seen great entertainment teams that managed to get sometimes resistant teens to participate in activities, and those trips are still remembered fondly by our boys.

Also, the boys were not allowed to sign out ping pong paddles or pool balls on their own, an adult had to come sign it out every time, which of course is not very restful for us. Both of our boys were charged the adult rate and we needed to get a separate room to accommodate them, so they should be allowed to sign out equipment. We finally complained about it and the 16 year old was eventually allowed to sign things out. Another issue that really made me upset was that the bartenders blatantly ignored kids (not just ours) at the bar. My boys complained to me that they couldn't get a drink so I went up to the bar with them and ordered their drinks. The next time I stood back and watched my boys politely wait at the bar for their turn, only to have the bartender completely ignore them. Only when I joined them and told the bartender that they were waiting did he serve them. I read about this issue in another review on trip advisor, but I honestly thought that the kids must have been rude or somehow misbehaving, well I know now that is not true. I won't tolerate my boys being rude and they need to wait their turn, but they shouldn't be ignored and an adult shouldn't have to go with them every time they want something to drink. It is as if this resort really wishes it could be an adult only resort, and has added teen activities as an afterthought to attract families but it makes no effort to actually carry out what it has advertised. Even the sports bar, which is a great idea, really should be a "tweens" and teens only hang out, with kid friendly drinks and snacks. As it is adults and kids are mixed in together, which isn't always a good thing, especially at night. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait until my husband and I can go to an adult only resort. In the meantime, we want a resort that will help us entertain our boys. We're not looking for someone to "baby sit" them, or keep them occupied 24/7, but we would have appreciated if the events that they listed actually took place, and if someone from the entertainment group spent the same amount of time getting the kids involved in fun events as they did with the adults.

To sum up, if you do opt for the preferred club option do it at the hotel, it will be cheaper, but unless you really want the quiet pools, don't waste your money. Based on the beach, the food and the overall high quality of the service and accommodations I would recommend this resort to couples (but why not go to an adults only??), or families with young children, but I would not recommend it for families with "tweens" or teenage kids, unfortunately there just isn't much for them to do.

I traveled to Punta Cana on a whim with a friend of mine, and we stayed for a week (Jan 26-Feb 2) in Now Larimar Punta Cana. We really enjoyed our time. 80 - 83 degrees and mostly sunny every day of the trip! The property has lovely grounds and the nicest, largest beach that we found on our walk to the point. There are several pools, too, so if your goal is to lie in the sun and people-watch, here's your spot!

We upgraded for both a direct flight from our home, and the preferred rooms...both were well worth the investment. Preferred status allowed us access to the Preferred Lounge -- lovely service staff and convenience with drinks and hors d'oeuvres throughout the day, complimentary access to email and really fun and friendly staffers. We enjoyed butler service as well as immediate assistance by our Preferred team in the lobby lounge every day. Big shout out to Gabriela and Davis! They were a big help!

Preferred rooms were also nice, with a jacuzzi tub on the balcony...a bit odd for some room locations and we didn't use ours. Rooms did have the mildewy odor many have commented on but we brought Febreze and sprayed our bedding each night and that helped a lot. It's ocean-side for cryin' out loud. You shouldn't be in your room much.

One note: We were checked in to a room with a king bed for the first two nights despite requesting two beds while making our reservations and again asking for two beds when we spoke to a sale representative (cheapcaribbean.com) just a couple of days before our departure. The hotel rep said there were no such requests in the system. Somewhere the line of communication broke down.

The property is huge. Over 700 rooms. There are five restaurants in the plaza area offering Mexican, French, Japanese, American and a mix of things in a GIANT buffet at Carnivale. In my opinion, the hotel might benefit by consulting with chefs that specialize in each of the cuisines to better define the flavors and recipes one would actually find in these specialized spots elsewhere. Especially when so many of the guests originated from countries all around the world. The Japanese restaurant offers both a la carte and teppanyaki style which requires a reservation. We met a couple of nice couples at the teppanyaki table but food wasn't the star. An Italian restaurant is just a golf cart ride away.

The best spot for breakfast and lunch was the waterside Castaways (breakfast for Premium Upgrades only). Henry makes a mean omelet and serves up a gracious smile with each dish. Great vibe and views under a huge palapas roof. The hostesses, servers and culinary staff were always very nice. They had fun teaching us Spanish and we enjoyed trying to gain fluency. Lunch can be a la carte, or a continuous buffet offers grilled meats, snacks, desserts and more which you can grab and run with.

The hotel offers Spanish lessons poolside, along with a host of other fitness activities and classes that I must admit we did not participate in..The leader of almost all of those classes was incredibly fit, always had a smile and was a great leader of the groups we observed from our lounge chairs.

Entertainment was very family-friendly and we enjoyed JEERK, a Swedish entertainment group, when there. The hotel's staff is very talented and they also join in the entertainment during a couple of nights in the plaza area and beachfront.

Shopping is limited on site. We didn't venture to the mall nearby. The cashier at the one store had a bit of difficulty making change with Dominican Pesos and offered Trident gum instead of exact change a couple of times. I don't like that brand so used USD instead.

We took only one off-campus trip, with Bavaro Runners for a zipline adventure. It was a blast! While on the bumpy ride up the mountain, we saw coffee, cocao, bananas, mangoes and more growing right by the road. Sugar cane fields were found in the lower land on our trip back to the hotel. Great service. Very safety-conscious. Great time. We even have the picture to prove we flew over the treetops ($10).

I would recommend this property for those that simply want to stay in the resort and not hassle with travel outside.Don't expect great things with food, and definitely upgrade to Preferred status to receive the benefits and comforts added.

We did tip those that we were particularly fond of, and worked with throughout our stay. It's a bit hard to understand how much to tip given it's an all-inclusive, but make the effort to say "Thanks" with some moola midway into your stay and again at the end. They will greatly appreciate the thought.

Next trip, I would schedule a day trip to Santa Domingo if I went again to absorb some of the culture, and shop for trinkets.

Watch out for the Mama Juana...

Room Tip: Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade to Premium/Preferred. The rooms are nicer and the extras are well worth th...
