Activities : beach volley, sailing, yoga, spa, cigar and rum tasting, spanish lessons, and..... Beach bingo (lucky you!)
Must : wine tasting dinner, BBQ beach party, real piña coladas
To avoid : don't go to the Dream resort show.... (dine around) yikes!
Important : for all bachelors and single people, the Zoetry is really a couple place .
My man and I were at the Zoetry resort in Punta Cana in may 2012.
It takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes ride from the airport. the roads at worse than in Montreal ( inside joke for those that live here!). But we finally arrived as we were the last ones in the shuttle to be dropped off. The Zoetry is a small resort at the north east side of the DR on the Atlantic side.
The first impression: WOW! We were greeted by demure and charming personnel with warm and deliciously scented towels for our hands and a cold fruit tea exclaiming " welcome home" !
Immediately the service is personalised - no wait at the check-in, you are expected and they know who you are.... Ahhhh! Forget any preconceived idea about resort service. For example, no wristbands here or need to reserve at the restaurants. You are a guest and feel as such. It's small, exclusive, with all the expected facilities and personalized service you could hope for.
We are accompanied to our room. We selected the garden view suite but with a King bed. the resort has 51 rooms. Very cosy. The buildings are no higher than 2 floors and no more than 2 rooms per cluster. Thatched roofs, wood and cement. It's very elegant and rustic at the same time. My honey calls it "Bourgeois Boheme". It's also zen without the Asian feel.. Just our kinda place.
The suite is large with a 4 poster bed. It connects through sliding doors to the bathroom area which is even larger. It has an open concept shower, large soaking tub, very long double sinks counter, separate toilet and bidet and walk-in closer n a safe. The bath product are Bulgari... Nice touch :-)
The more than sufficient amenities are as follows:
1 full service spa
Work-out room with first class equipment n TV
1 game center
1 Internet with IMac
Coffee and dessert shop
And a modern zen like wedding gazebo if you get the urge to get married while you are there!
Now to the pool n beach.
The main pool is an infinity pool overlooking the ocean and has no more than 10 sun beds. But they are beds, the lounger has a comfy mattress. A few more would not go unused.
The other pool is a long winding one that goes between all the buildings for the swim out rooms.
The most important thing about THE BEACH that you must now is that there is no one on the left and no one on the right. It's amazing ! In general when you see the picture of the beach in a resort there is no one but reality is always different ! For the first time in my life, the beach was as depicted. It is truly secluded.
The best part of the whole experience has to be the staff. 24 hrs into our vacation, most of the staff called us by name, knew what we liked, brought us another piña colada before we even knew we wanted another one and so on. Best of all, they smile and laugh all the time! Charming people.
About the food. As mentioned the 3 restaurants offers different flavors. The breakfast is very good with a complete choice. The lunch is simple but good too (pizza, pasta, shrimps, fajitas, a dominican special, burger, fruits, etc....) the diner is more sophisticated and most of the dishes are delicious, all are good.
Even paradise has some minor areas of improvement to consider:
No love sun beds on the beach (snif.....), the temperature of the swimming pool in the spa was a little tepid (same for the steam room), wifi is a little bit uneven (no reception in the room - must go on the deck....), no umbrella in the room (you will retrieve them at the restaurant or the lobby, but by then you are wet. Come one guys it's a 5 stars !....), finally the bed was a bit too hard to our liking and a few others in the resort mentioned it as well. The air conditioning control was not really efficient.it was difficult to get the room temperature to the desired temp.( we don't like it too cold)
All in all, nothing very serious.
We absolutely LOVED this place and will return for sure as we decided it is going to be our little secret romantic vacation spot.
Thank you: Fernando, Flor, Rosalia, Alexandre, Tatiana, Nilson, Juan P., Franklin and all you other wonderful folks!!! You made our vacation go from good to fantastic just by your personal attention and good humor. And a special thanks to Alain, the resort manager. His delightful hosting of the wine tasting dinner and his attention to details in the resort made it what it is today.
