After a tremendous amount of research, we decided on the Zoetry for our honeymoon, and we couldn't have been happier with our selection. We were looking for a more intimate setting to simply enjoy time together in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. We stayed in an ocean front suite with a plunge pool, and that splurge was well worth it. The room was apropos for a beach setting with a touch of luxury. As so many have said, the food was impeccable and there were plenty of choices made specifically for you - so much better than buffet style at larger all-inclusives. If it wasn't what you wanted - you just simply had to tell them and they would do whatever they could to please your palate (everyone's taste is different, after all). If you wanted an item from the previous menu, or even another restaurant, they would do whatever they could to give you what you wanted. (Definitely try the pumpkin bisque - it was the talk of the resort.) Room service was outstanding. This resort was so quiet and peaceful as you walked to breakfast or dinner through the gardens, sometimes it would feel as if you were the only ones there. You easily had the ability to have time alone, or if you chose, to get to know other couples or families. It was so interesting getting to talk with others at the lobby bar (the gathering place at night) ... as you learned they all felt the same - the stay/experience was truly what you made it to be. Some (including us) chose to experience everything they had to offer (the horseback riding, kayaks, snorkeling, wine dinner, spa, etc) and others chose to simply lay on the beach - but we all agreed the resort exceeded our expectations. It was also interesting in that you 'noticed' newly arrived guests - and witnessed others (or you) telling those newbies what a great place this was. The unexpected pleasure, as well as the jewel of the Zoetry are the staff members. The service managers and staff learn your name, learn your favorite drinks, treat you like a VIP and encourage you to get the full experience of the resort. They make your vacation personal, and you actually feel like you're leaving family at the end of your trip.
Some tips I would pass on to make sure you weren't caught off-guard are these: 1) Definitely bring mosquito spray (the fresh smelling kind) and just put it on before you head to dinner. Only one night (it rained a good part of the day) did the mosquitoes bother us, but there were others who noted them more. 2) Know that in the Dominican Republic - their air conditioning temp is different than the States - it will probably be warmer in your room then you think it should be. I heard couples from other resorts say the same thing. Same with ice cold drinks - may not be what you're use to - the ice melts very quickly in that environment and is a commodity - takes a little longer to get ice delivered to your room. 3) There are small gaps under the doors - tiny creatures can get in - it makes the trip memorable (we had a tiny crab in our ocean front room - but it ran out as we were trying to capture it's photo). 4) The dreaded vacation program men - Here's the deal - if you can't say "No" easily and walk away - then politely tell them you are NOT interested and to kindly not ask again. They will do as requested. However, we wanted to take the helicopter ride to Secrets as I wanted to see a little more of the country side (plus I waffled between Secrets and Zoetry - and by the way - Zoetry was the RIGHT choice). But I also knew when we returned and they started doing their talk - we would have no problem in saying "Not interested - thanks for the helicopter ride!". We were out of the 'room' within 10 minutes by holding firm and not waivering. Others have a hard time doing that - so know yourself before you agree to anything. 5) If something isn't perfect - tell them about it - they will do whatever they can do fix it. Luis and his staff truly want you to have a great time.
Zoetry is not for everyone. Even though it's not adult only, I would never bring small children or teenagers there. And if you need to be entertained by casinos or clubs, this isn't the place for you either. But for those who desire a beautiful, peaceful, intimate setting, surrounded by good people and with good food, Zoetry is the place.
