From start to finish this resort was amazing. Great accomodation, food, and the service was outstanding. Catered to celiac for dietary restrictions. The restaurants had a good variety of different foods that were excellent. The beach was wonderful, comfortable chairs both beach and poolside. No issues getting chairs. Great service on the beach and pool as well. Wifi was available free everywhere including the beach, room, etc.
Special mention to Emanuel from Thalassa Restaurant, Ernesto at Sea Blue Restaurant, and all staff for their excellent service, friendly smiling greetings, kindness and professionalism.

Room Tip: 40's and 30's best rooms, quiet some do face the pool depending what you want. Get the top...

My girlfriend and I visited recently for 10 days as our first trip to Caribbean.

Overall we had a great time and enjoyed the stay.

Good Points:
- We came for the beach, blue ocean and sun. All of which we got and was gratefully received.
- The Beach Bar staff (Roberto, Daniel and Reibin) were awesome and made me feel very welcome. They work solidly, every day, for long hours and still have a smile on their faces - someone give them a raise! If you are going to come here tipping goes a long way! Don't leave it until the end of the holiday just give a couple of dollars every other drink.
- The waiters on the beach too (including Wander and Gladys) were really nice smiley people who never failed to say good morning or Ola.
- Our maids or housekeepers were generally very good but this depended on tipping I think. We had different towel decoration for the last few days including a Swan, a Basket and a Towel Elephant, which I have never seen before anywhere.

Not so good points:
- I had to go down to the beach early, like 7am every day to get some beach towels on a nice seat. We preferred to be on the left of the beach, under an umbrella, near the bar for obvious reasons. We managed to get something suitable most days. This "beach towels down and seat is reserved" is pretty much universal holiday rules but it seems to be a worldwide nuisance and not specific to this hotel.
- The food. It was not brilliant by any stretch of the imagination. By the end of the 10 days we were looking forward to having alternatives as the actual quality of the food was average. The restaurants on the family side were largely avoided by us as they were too busy and full of kids, which we didn't want to have to handle on our relaxing vacation. The Thai restaurant near the top pool was probably my favourite just for the setting and calm atmosphere. However, the Tapas restaurant was very romantic too. Once again though there was something not quite right about the food. in wither location.

Bad Points:
- The infamous men in white! Trying to sell us something after a tiring 12 hour journey from west London was not nice. We managed to side step that by cutting them off early and they seemed to leave us alone mostly after that. However, their haunting presence was always noticed in the lobby. A lot of the time they would outnumber the helpful staff. My tip for the hotel would be get rid of them (or make them less pushy - let the customer come to you) they make guests feel very uncomfortable. Get more staff on the front desk.
- There was an annoying guest on the beach playing god awful RnB music on top of the beach bar music! It was a cacophony of ear abuse and it disturbed our relaxation on the beach. We asked him to turn it down and he didn't say much or do much in fact. My girlfriend complained to the staff that we didn't come here to listen to his music and they didn't seem to think it was a problem. This should have been dealt with it wasn't just us that was disturbed and had to move away. Oh well it was annoying but it only happened one evening.
- the last two days a loud group of "Woo-Girls" and "Woo-boys", arrived and definitely brought a less relaxing vibe to the beach.

In summary:
I think we were lucky in that most of our 10 days were beautiful, no seaweed on the beach (apart from first day) and the other guests were mostly other couples and seemed very nice. Great place to come to relax if you get the right mix of guests. We did enjoy ourselves very much but I don't think I would return.

We travelled as a family of 5 adults, for 6 nights, recently at this resort.

We found our stay to be very stress-free, relaxing, and felt like we got what we paid for. Resort staff were kind, attentive and made us at ease for any requests.

Our rooms were relatively clean, but there was a difference between the two rooms. One was closer to the entrance, and right by where the steps were leading up to the second floor. Whenever someone was climbing stairs, we heard loud squeaks of the steps in our rooms. The mini-bar was restocked randomly, not every day. We had one foul smelling pillow, and the cushions also did not seem like they were being cleaned. Other than that, room felt like it was being cleaned 2x daily. In the mornings, the room closer to the entrance/walkway also smelled like stinky fertilizer.

The five of us all agreed that Thalassa was the best for breakfast. We enjoyed going to thalassa/sea blue for lunch. We tried Mikado and La Toscana on the family side for dinner, and also Thalassa and Cata Tapa on the adults only side. The best one was Cata Tapa for dinner. The beach BBQ's were also a nice touch. We all thought some meals were better than others, overall while there were a lot of choices and decent, nothing stood out for us to have again.

An employee who did not sport the Catalonia badge approached us upon checkin and asked if he could join us for a meal to discuss further features of the resort. We expressed that we were not interested in timeshares and we were never approached again.

Wifi was good in all areas but the room. Not consistent in the room.

Overall it was a good stay. We had a very relaxing trip and family time.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms by the walkway.

I read many reviews and expected this resort to be in better shape than it was. It apeared to be old in need of lots of repair. Our room which was in Villa 42 was plagued with water issues. The obsence of hot water to begin with and then water leaking into the bathroom on our second day there. They supposedly fixed it and 2 days later had even bigger water leaking from the bathroom into the entry way. When we called for service they informed us the ceiling in the bathroom could cave in and we needed to relocate to another room which didnt happen until the next day. The second room was in better shape in villa 44.

The staff was not real friendly with the exception of a couple people at the pool bar. (it wasn't an issue of not tipping because we always tipped) Everyone else didn't smile and would barely make eye contact. I've been to other all inclusive resorts in Mexico and found them to be much more engaging and happy to help you with anything.

I have NO intention of ever returning to the Dominican Republic. We had problems when going through customs upon our return. A traveling companion was bringing coffee back in his carry on luggage and was stopped and searched (which I don't have a problem with) however they took him into a closed room and said he had to pay them additional money or they wouldn't let him come back to the United States. We were scared to death for him. I had checked in advance there are no restrictions on bringing Dominican coffee back into the US. They were just trying to get money. So please BEWARE!

Room Tip: We stayed on the Adult only side, the family side of the resort was newer and offered much more.

A great holiday at a great resort! The staff were friendly, it was clean and welcoming and comfortable. The facilities were great - we just really loved it! My only gripe was that the competition for tables at some of the best restaurants was a lot - you had to turn up very early at Cata Tapa for example to get a table.

This hotel was wonderful. We stayed in the "royal" side which is adults only. The infinity pool area seems to be where you go if you want quiet and relaxation. The music played at this pool is more of a European lounge than "holiday". The other pool which is farther from the beach has a swim up bar and upbeat "party" music playing. This is where more of the people who are out to have a good time seemed to gather.

The property itself is immaculate. They do a very good job with everything.

The restaurants are all a la carte and worth trying them all.

The great thing about this hotel is, as an adult'only vacationer, you can enjoy the family side of the resort also. This side include the disco, a great lounge bar, shopping and more restaurants and pools. It's nice to check it all out.

The beach is very deep and there are chairs to find everywhere. The only issue is (if you are a sun god/ess) it is covered in palm trees, so you find yourself chasing the sun.

The room was very large. We had a "double" which had a living room, separate bedroom and large bathroom. The room had two decks also, mini fridge (re-stalked daily but not as much as you would like)

A quick walk down the beach in either direction brings to you shops and paintings.

We went on a day-trip to Santo Domingo (3 hour drive one way), but it was so worth it and amazing to see all the history the Dominican has to offer.

Room Tip: stay away from the properly boundary because that's where the sewer/garbage areas are and I'...

My wife and I visited the resort from April 22-28 2015 and we had a really good time. The resort itself is beautiful and very well kept. The pools and the beach is very nice and the water was great. My 3 star rating isn't because the resort was bad. There were just a few things which kept us from having the perfect vacation and most of it is personal preference. If I got a 50% off deal to go back for another week I would.

The drinks were very good and they never skimped on the alcohol for sure. We had to hold back some nights because we were always getting loaded pretty quick. Can't complain as they made some great ones.

The service to our room was very dependent on tips. If we tipped, the room got taken care of. If we forgot, it didn't. Our towels got replaced 2 times and only because I left a note with a $5 tip. I am sure we wouldn't have gotten new towels if I didn't. Same with the mini bar. I had to tip and ask for specific items to get them stocked.

Not a big deal really, but there should be standard service and tips should be given for good service, not to get service in my room.

My biggest complaint was the food. My wife and I did not have a lunch or dinner where we felt it was great anytime we were there. We are generally not picky eaters at all and we ate at a new restaurant each night. The best meal we had was our last at Thalassa (the main hotel restaurant) and even that was just something we felt was "good" and nothing special.

The Italian Restaurant had the worst Tortellini I have ever eaten. The Japanese Steakhouse was decent, but the chicken was even sketchy there. Simple foods were just not right. It is hard to explain until you eat it. The main buffet was ok. The deserts were all good and I can't complain about breakfast as it was pretty good each day.

We ate at the Rodeo Steak House and the steak we had was barely edible. It was really bad. My wife and I both had New Yorks and I wasn't sure what it was I ate. It was nasty and fatty.

I was also accosted by one of the employees right after checkin about timeshares and I simply walked away. The guy actually got mad at me and asked me if I was too good to talk to him. I walked away. I did not go there to get sold, I went there for a vacation and didn't want an hour presentation.

On our last day they had local vendors come into the hotel and they had stands all around the main pool by the lobby and it felt like walking the gauntlet. They were at you and I know people sitting by the pool did not feel comfortable as the area was not really big enough to accommodate it.

My wife and I had a great time. Don't get me wrong. I read all the review here before going and came away thinking that the resort is better in some ways then is portrayed in some reviews here, but very accurate in others.

The Wifi was only available in the main lobby. Other then that, maybe at the front pool, but that is it. If you plan on doing any remote work on your vacation, it won't happen here. Don't believe it when they say they have Wifi throughout the resort cause it does not exist. Its not slow, I mean you won't even connect to it and we were in the Villa 42 right off the main pool down from the lobby.

You can have a great relaxing vacation here, but don't expect much extra other then good drinks, good, yet small pools, and a small beach area (adults only side). The events onsite were very low key and had low participation as they didn't really make things big there.

We did go on 2 great excursions and had a blast doing them so you can have a great time at this resort and do fun things for a great price. Just don't expect 5 Star treatment or even 4 star food. In a lot of ways I guess we got what we paid for.

Room Tip: We stayed in Villa 42 which is mid way down the resort. I thought it was the best location in the p...
