“Third time there, and can't wait to go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2011 via mobile

This was our third time at this resort! We were there in 2007 when the infinity pool, sea blue, cata tapas, and the villas with your own pool wasn't even built yet. We were there for a week and loved every minute of it. There was four of us that traveled there, and from the minute we got to the lobby we were treated like never before. Then in 2010 we got married there. They took care of everything. 11 of us were there for the wedding. My wife and I were there for two weeks, and the other 9 were there for the first week. Great time again! We just got back from a week stay from sept 24 to oct 1, 2011. We went down with 9 people in total, and once again had the time of your life, two of the people that came with us were my parents (first time traveling out of the country). Already we are planning a return trip for the 4 of us in April 2012. My wife and I highly recommend this resort. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing time, or a party time, or even a resort that I find not overly crowded, then this is the place to check out. Well see you again in a couple of months........

We upgraded to the catolonia Royal after reading the reviews of the first hotel we had booked for our anniversary trip to Punta Cana. It only cost us 100.00 more per person and was so worth it. We stayed in the Royal side which is the adult side but was only a short stroll to the family side where the better restaurants were. We enjoyed all of the restuarants exept for the Thalassa which was next to the lobby where you check in. Everywhere else we found really good food from Italian to Mexican to a Steakhouse. We really enjoyed the buffet where Margarita really took care of us. Unlike most buffet they would cook fresh foods for you while you waited. The breakfast there was really good. We had fresh Mangos and other tropical fruits inlcluding fresh tropical fruit drinks made at your request at the smoothie station. The staff was always so friendly and helpful everywhere we went on the resort. We made sure to tip waiters and waitresses which they really appreciate.
The landscape grounds, pools and beach are all proudly manicured. This is such a beautiful resort.
We would also like to thank Ramon, Yaisey and Cecilia for taking good care of us. Last but not least is Andres the bellboy who would shuttle us all around the property on a nice golf cart. He used to work in the U.S. so his english is very good!
Yaisey the Concierge sure spolied us by making arrangements for us to have a very special anniversary, with a banner in our door, flowers, champagne, cake and also book us a dinner at the Aqua Mare Restaurant. What a treat!
I read so many Tripadvisor reviews thinking of changing our hotel for another one but the Catlonia Royal consistently had the best reviews and now after staying there for 6 days we know why. If you want a great location and excellent treatment this is the place to stay in Punta Cana in our opionion and we have travel a lot.

Room Tip: Ask for a second story room in the back. 3636 if possible.

my husband and i went here in aug we had an exclusive pool suite which was really good it was duplex with a walk in rain shower a jacussi outdoor shower and an upstairs toilet and sink too beds really comfy lounge nice with big tv also had one in bedroom good for news when hurricane irene was on her way it kept us in touch
the food here is just ok not very hot most of the time
the staff were the worst we have come across in all the years we have been travelling
they were ignorant and never spoke too you in passing the maids were the best they always had an hola when we saw them
the beach was nice when they cleared the seaweed and believe me there was a lot but give them there due they cleared it earley every morning they fought a losing battle
the bavaro side was full of kids we only went at night because the piano bar was dreary and boring people just sat there looking at each other o apmosphere at all
all the entertainment was on the other hotel
we wont go again even though the room was fantastic well worth the extra money
but ther are a lot better hotels in dom rep this was our 5th time in dom rep
the pools were very nice drinks good the beach service was no existant it made us feel that we didnt want to tip for this kind of service if you did tip you didnt get any better service
come on catalonia royal give the staff some staff training it might help

Room Tip: book a pool room they are very good

Me and my wife had our wedding at this resort in April and it was absolutely amazing! We upgraded to a loft suite and we had a two storey room with it's OWN POOL!!! How awesome is it to have your own pool?!!! We were in room 3404 which was close to the pool near the beach and it was the perfect location. The servers around the pool would come to me while I was in my private pool and ask if I needed anything. This place was a dream! As a Canadian guy I love my steak and the beef tenderloin at the rodeo steakhouse was like going to the keg! The Japanese restaurant was fun and the thalassa and Italian restaurant were great too. Buffets were great for breakfast not the best for dinner. Beach was awesome, no bugs, a/c was great in our room not so great in the other rooms we were told. Overall I love this place and I am gonna plan a return here for our 5th anniversary, same room too so that should be awesome. You will not be disappointed :)

I agree with other reviews that for the most part the food is not what brings you here. It was okay. The Tapas was the best location for excellent food and the Royal side is better than the family side. Our room was fabulous and we love the in-room tub! Rooms smelled a little musty but our experience has been that at beach resorts if you just air out the room upon arrival it mostly goes away. Pool chairs were easy to get and both pools are great! Because the brand of this resort (Catalonia HC) is based in Spain, there are lots of Europeans around and it feels like you are in a very far off place! It was half a day before we heard anyone speaking English as a first language! We enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: The Royal side is long an narrow and whatever room you get, it will be near either of the 2 pools or...

This hotel was not up to 5 star rating 4 would be about right. Rooms where lovely very spacious everything you would need. Cleaned every day, towels changed, fridge re-stocked. Girls would come for the pool towels(usually when you were getting ready for dinner) but you didn't always get towels back you had to go to reception in the morning. Food was mostly lovely(could have been a little hotter at times in all the restaurants) al a carte on Royal side changed the lunch menu daily but the dinner menu never changed in the two weeks, a change a night would have been better than lunch!! Buffet was rather disappointing, yes there is plenty to choose from but the quality is not 5 star. Everything on the Royal side was of good quality until you have to go to the other side of the resort. The service was some what erratic in the dinning room in the morning your order was taken for eggs etc and it was there before you had even had cereal or fruit. May-be a re-think of how this is done, just go and ask yourself for eggs because you have to go get bacon (always burnt to a crisp!!)sausage ,beans etc yourself anyway. Don't even ask for tea it's an alien concept to them, coffee is rather good though if you can get them to serve it to you, always come with water but coffee refill you will have to wait. Entertainment only on the other side. Royal side only has the piano bar at night(3 nights a week) no where else and it is a smoking area ,so you will need to sit in the LOBBY to have a drink. There was seating outside the piano bar again smoking. Lobby and restaurants where the only place non smoking not good enough for non smokers in a 5 star hotel! Not all staff could understand or chose not to understand what you asked for. Alba in the piano bar is very good she would take time to listen to your order if she did not understand she would ask or give a quizzical look but we always got what we ordered. Carlos at the pool bar makes very good strong cocktails and his sing is great!! Hotel is remote and out of the way. If you go on trips you get on a small people carrier to get to a bigger bus at near by shopping centre.

Room Tip: Ask for one over looking the Spa/pool area.

Great hotel for couples and groups of couples..! It proves that the “All Inclusive” doesn’t have to be shabby, offering refined meals, great room service – no extra charge! – and an excellent service, from the cosy and elegant restaurant environments, to the cocktail’s presentation. Kudos for the chefs responsible for the “Culinary Expressions by Catalonia”, loved your soups, veggie options and even the sandwiches. Especially when you pay a visit to the gigantic and super populated resort next door, Catalonia Bavaro, you realise how big a difference the attention to details makes. All the suites (we initially stayed in a deluxe) are elegantly decorated, but they do have a humidity problem. Maybe it’s because of the rock floors and big room dimensions, but that definitely makes the rooms not as comfortable as they should be, since you have a canopy bed, lovely sofas, and a hammock to relax. For the last 4 days of our stay, we upgraded to an exclusive swimming pool suite which WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT!! They’re just gorgeous, with a beautiful mezzanine bedroom, in which you can wake up, press the button to open the 6m long drapes, and marvel at the view of your private pool. Order a fantastic breakfast (continental, American, Dominican, cereal, you name it), enjoy it in your terrace and then jump right into the pool for a morning dip! They’re the closest rooms to the beach and have no humidity problems at all (I think the wooden floors do the trick..). Definitely recommend and will go back with a couple of friends!
