The glowing reviews are all true!!! This Hotel is amazing. From the super helpfull private concierge (Hola Mellisa) to the friendly bartenders ( Hola Antonio and Carlos), the staff makes you feel like you are in a private estate rather than a Hotel complex. The beach is usually deserted and manicured, and the food was exceptional. We were in an ocean front villa (6173) and the views reminds one of a postcard. It's well worth the price and we can't wait to go back!!!

A beautiful holiday spot, with all you could ask for in the way of a location. The Oscar Di La Renta-designed villas are superb, and the staff is so well trained, attentive and genuinely pleased to work there that I would love to know how they do it.

Why only three stars, then? In a word, infrastructure. Data connections are very flaky, meaning not only that the internet was so unreliable as to be worthless, but also that credit card machines in resort shops don’t work, you can’t get cash because the connection at the currency exchange desk doesn’t work, and paying for extra services like diving or kiteboarding is a major performance. I’m not talking here about the odd service interruption, but about things not working for days on end. This can cause you a major problem because you can’t use credit and you can’t get cash.

The phone in our room also didn’t work, and that included internal calls – so no wake-up calls or calls to reception from that phone were possible. You’ll want wake-up calls if you book activities. They will issue you a cellphone to call your Villa Manager, but this often goes to voicemail and – be warned – they stop answering altogether after 11 pm. This last little piece of news got my wife and I stranded for 40 minutes in a car park, waiting for a lift at 12:30am after a resort-organized party at the other end of the campus.

Also on the subject of infrastructure, the showers in our room were tepid to cold – colder than body heat – and the air-conditioning was stuck at a freezing 66 degrees for most of the week until they finally fixed it. From an outside temp of 85-90 it was like walking into an icebox and then showering in a freezing mountain stream, and we both were in the odd position of getting mild colds and sleeping fully clothed in the middle of the tropics. Eventually we opened the doors and accepted the insects.

None of these things is acceptable in any five-star venue anywhere, nor at four-star standard, so unfortunately we have to rate this venue down for these reasons. That makes it very expensive for the value obtained. There are cheaper options in the same location.

Bottom line – We will come back, but only if they fix the data services and room services first.

Tortuga Bay offers service unlike any other place we have ever visited. From the moment you step off the airplane until the moment you step back on, the staff is there to assist you. The airport whisking service makes you feel like a rock star. Within fifteen minutes of landing we were through customs and in our room at the resort. No check in process required. Our resort manager was always just a call on the resort-provided cell phone away, and was there to take care of our every need. The staff was exceedingly friednly, helpful, and warm. Our oceanfront room offered a breathtaking view, as well as an outdoor jacuzzi and a separate balcony to eat breakfast brought in to our room. This is not a place for those looking for a lot of nightlife, but if you are looking for a place to relax and be pampered, this is the place for you! Also, my husband played golf at the new Corales course designed by Tom Fazio, and said it was the most beautiful course he has ever seen (and he has seen many)! We loved it here, and will definitely be back.

Villa - We had a beach front 1 bedroom oceanfront , The room was perfect with a wrap around balcony with stunning views. Have Breakfast on the balcony.
Beach - Perfect. Calm Turquoise waters .
Golf and Spa were excellent.
If your looking for action and nightlife stay away from Tortuga Bay - If you want 5 star treatment and peace and quiet this is the place.
