“RUI PALACE PUNTA CANA”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2012

We arrived on 24th April, we had a private taxi from the airport which was lovley the airport was a wonderful thatched laid back place with smiling customs officials!!
we arrived at the hotel about 4 p.m and checked in without any problems the bell boy took our suitcases to our room!
we unpacked and went off to discover whether the hotel was as good as it looked in the brochure, it was and the beach was wonderful!
we went to dinner in the main buffet restaurant and the food was realy good! the staff were very attentative and we had champagne (cava) with all our meals!
The entertainment was a little holiday campish and the entertainment staff danced with hotel guest during the evenings outside which was a nice touch, the head waiters that took youre drinks orders were very good and you didnt have to wait very long for a drink they would even go upstairs to the cocktail bar and get whatever u wanted.
The one big problem with the place is the majority of Americans who were so loud and rude they think if they chuck there money around they can do what they wanted not caring whether they spoilt other guest's peace and quite!!
They would tip for anything we being British tip good service not just to get served this became apparent towards the end of our holiday and the last two nights of our holiday the staff werent interested and last night we had to wait half an hour for a drink in the plaza!! we did complain they just dont get the Brits we tip on the last night and a dam sight more than a dollar (there loss).
I must say the management were very pleasant and not only to the guests but to the staff too!
the swiming pool was dirty most days and we used the sea it was not down to the staff but the fault of drunken Americans that wouldnt get out of the pool allowing them enough time to clean
it properly!
The housekeeping staff were very good nothing went missing from our room and the room, towels, sheets were all spotless wel done!! dont leave a tip for the house maid give it to her i her had as the chap who restocks the fridge will take it first!
AL A CARTE RESTAURANTS: Brazzilain not good, Italian the waiter was so rude we never went back he attitude was disgraceful we did complain to his supervisor but she wasnt bothered either!! food was mediocre at best!
Krystal: went three time same menu third time found a long black hair in my tagliatelle yuk!
Japanese boring
overall the food was good but the reason the Americans say the food was rubbish is the fact that there idea of fine dining is kfc or Macdonalds.
The drinky drinky! staff on the beach were brilliant working hard to keep all the guests hydrated, the hotel shops are realy expensive if you go on the beach and turn right keep walking you will see some shacks in the distance on the beach, these are local shops and things are so much cheaper if you are prepared to haggle!
we would reccomend this hotel to anyone the only one real problem is the air conditioning the rooms get realy damp and smelly.(did have a couple od cockroaches but the management had the room fumigated).

Room Tip: Try and get as far away from the entertainment as possible as it is realy noisy at night!

We only stay in RIU hotels and this one out did the Riu in ARUBA. Staff were constantly cleaning and our superior suite was great and the courtyard view was beautiful. the staff were even mopping the walkways every morning with soap!!! Room service is nice. We ordered up champagne a few nights no cost. There were no line ups for reserving a la cartes and we liked being able to reserve for 3 nights at a time. This is a classy resort. the bartender service while tanning on the beach is great all day long. unlike ARUBA there was NONE. They are constantly coming up to you and offering you drinks . Lots of beach chairs, not sure about pool chairs we preferred the gorgeous view of the ocean, with the breeze coming off the water. The Brazilian a la carte is a must . We ate there a few times. It is to die for!!!! make sure you don't eat all afternoon, they feed you so much meat and other food. Awesome. Turndown service is great also. We didn't even ask for it. The infinity pool is wonderful we would end our day by swimming in it instead of the regular pool where everyone sat at the swim up bar all day and never moved......... yeah .... water is constantly flowing in the infinity pool and it has seats along the edge . Plenty of towels everyday. lots of little shops without having to go into little towns. There was a little place off the beach called CARRIBEAN STREET it was perfect. now for the negative things the food did suck at the buffets but I didn't care everything else was so worth it, I was comparing it to Jamaica. and the language barrier really sucks we were trying really hard with the spanish but alot of the waiters would screw things up. I didn't like the pillows but I did like the hard bed , but everyone has there own preference. I got sick and tired of smokers flicking their ashes down from up above and them landing on our chairs on our balcony. We are non smokers and our room was a non smoking. It really ticked me off. People are really inconsiderate.vendors that came at night onto the Riu property I found really pushy and they didn't impress me at all. they were all crooks .. We are going back to Punta Cana and the same resort. You can't beat being pampered and 32 miles of beach and 106 degree weather. Beautiful

Room Tip: ask for courtyard view the gardenview rooms look out to nowhere or rooftops and construction

SPEND A LITTLE EXTRA AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! The food was the worst I have ever had...including the 5 restaurants that you can pick from. The buffet had the EXACT SAME THING everyday and it was NOT good! You think, if the food sucks...I'll just drink...NOPE the only choice for alcohol is this nasty Normandy stuff! They have Smirnoff on the shelves but I saw them pouring Normandy in to the bottles. The staff is very kind and they do a wonderful job keeping the place clean, etc but the beautiful grounds and beach do not make up for the HORRENDOUS food!

My wife and I honeymooned here and absolutely loved it! The service is the best part. Everyone is so friendly and happy to be there. The entertainment was excellent and we enjoyed the nightly shows and dances. This was our first all inclusive resort that we stayed at and the food and drinks were top notch. The restaurants and buffetts had a great variety and we never went hungry for anything. They also included a top shelf in room bar that was restocked daily. We were fortunate enought to stay one week and hope to return within the next few years.

We had a wonderful time. Picked same spot at pool everyday therefore we had the same server the whole week. He was awesome! Beach was beautiful. Food was decent. Only issue I had personally was lack of on sight laundry facilities. Clothes get damp and musty smelling very quickly. Other guests were a pleasure to be around except for the typical "Canadian Princesses" mostly those from Toronto which is no surprise if your from Toronto as we are you'll know exactly what I mean...... Would definetly come back.
