“Can't wait to go back!!!! Number 5”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 10, 2013

This was our 4th time to Ocean Blue & Sand, and just booked our next trip back in October.
It is like going back to see family, everyone is fantastic. The rooms are just the best, clean, comfortable, and pleasant. The food is great, plenty to choose from. But back to the staff, THE GREATEST. I just want to name a few names of some of the people we love, Luis, The Magic Man, Veronica, at the lounge there is Reynaldo (my son), Alexander, Ben, Frankel. The girls, Yari, Raquel, Crystal, 3 other girls, their names escape me (sorry). And of course, the entertainment, Wille, Jack, Minime, Franklin. If there is anyone I miss, sorry. Just can't wait to get back and see our new family. Number 5.

we stayed at ocean blue for 2 weeks from june 18th, it was our second time to ocean blue and somewhere we wanted to go for our honeymoon. We had upgraded to premium cabin on thomson flight so already had a lovely start.

when we arrived we were checked in very quickly and given a pool view room in block 9 3rd floor so brilliant view from our balcony. we asked if our cases could be delivered soon as we wanted to swim by the time we had walked to the room our cases were there
.
since we;d been year before it was so nice that the entertainment crew all remembered us and treat you like you never been away, Alejandro, candyman, mini me, charlie brown, willy wonka and new ones for us franklin, angel and jack michael they are a real credit to ocean blue and make your holiday so much fun if you want to get involved, if you dont they wont bother you.

The beach had eroded quite a bit since last year but is still beautiful and had some long and gorgeous walks both ways.

food was plentiful and brilliant in buffet and a la cartes we especially liked the new french one the fillet steak is to die for, we never got to the steak house as the queue was too long even at half past five!

room was kept really clean she never got to us till late aft but they have lots to do and we always had clean towels and fridge always restocked with beers, we always left a dollar in the fridge as well as a dollar for the made so that might have helped lol. rooms may be a little tired looking but we were happy with it and wouldnt have paid the amount they wanted to upgrade to privelidge.

we wont be visiting ocean blue again next year only because we want to try somewhere different but would have no problem recommending it to anyone its a brilliant place and will miss it and the people.

I got married over Easter weekend of March 2013. By all means everything was just amazing, I can't even complain. It was 32 of us that traveled for our wedding and everyone ended up having a blast. Wedding coordinator was super helpful on site and while I was in the states via emails. Once we arrived they were nice enough to hold our welcome bags for our guest during their check ins, The staff that interacted with our group made the visit even more welcoming. Beach was beautiful, pools were super fun and nice, we met some other groups and played games. Food selection was great and our children enjoyed the buffet, there wasn't a moment where you would think you would ever be hungry lol. Our children ages were 12, 8 & 4 and they all had something to do during our visit. It was overall a resort great for couples trip, family trip w/ or without kids. We look forward to visiting again!

Room Tip: Closest to the pool is better due to have access to the pool without having to get the little shuttl...

We travelled as a party of 6 and 3 of us went to this resort 6 years ago and we felt that there had been a few changes, some not so good but yet some better, nothing to major.
Overall we had a fantastic holiday, we only went to relax around the pool, which is exactly what we done for 2 weeks with no hassle from anyone trying to sell trips, time shares or anything else.
The food in the buffet restaurant was great, always something nice to eat for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
We ate at most of the al-a-carte restaurants, we ate at the Mexican, French, Dominican, Italian, American Dinner and the Steak House, we never had a long wait to get a table (45 mins at the most) when we went at about 7:30-8:00pm.
There was always a long queue for the Steak House and we were not going to bother, but we managed to get a reservation through the hotel,* which I will explain about in a moment*, after getting a seat at the Steak House it was very disappointing, I had a much better steak in the French restaurant.
We found the service in the Mexican to be the best, we never had to ask for our drinks to be refilled once and both times we ate there were great meals.
The one down side to this resort is the areas to sit in the evening, the only place that has air con is the sports bar and it can get very loud at times.

*The reason we managed to get a reservation for the Steak House was a way of compensation from the Hotel, if you can call getting restaurant reservations compensation.
The reason for the compensation was that on the 3rd night of our holiday our 22 year old daughter and her 22 year old friend woke up at 4am to find a very large very very drunk American man in there room, he was standing in there room and started to get undressed by taking his T shirt off, both of the girls were screaming at him to get out and shouting that it was not his room and he was in the wrong room, he seemed to realise after a while, turned and left, but left his T shirt behind, he then collapsed outside their room and was still there at 8am, we went to reception to complain about the fact that someone had managed to get in the room on a key card, but they did not seem to care, even when we told them the man was still there and they should at least check on him, but they did not bother.
After breakfast we took some water and 7up and left it by his side as he was still fast asleep and in that heat we felt he needed a drink.
The only action we got from the hotel was when we told the Thomson Reps who were amazed what had happened and dealt with it the best they could, but the hotel denied that anyone had been in the room, to which we replied that their security system was obviously faulty*
Overall it did not ruin our holiday but it was a very serious breach of security in our opinion, as it turned out the American man was very friendly and apologised when we confronted him about it.
The key cards were a bit of a pain the whole holiday, they kept on packing up and we had to keep going back to reception to get them changed.

All in all a great holiday with great food, drink, rooms and amazing staff.

Room Tip: We had pool views on ground floor in block 9

We just got back from my sister's destination wedding at Ocean Blue and Sand. There were about 35 of us in total. My husband and I had our 18mth old son and 3 yr old daughter with.

First, the wedding was beautiful and went off without a hitch. The hotel photographer was absolutely amazing and the pictures are breathtaking. And we had a great time with friends and family.

Pool - and beach/ocean area are perfect. I loved the kids' area of the pool, it was a great area to watch the kids. However, occasionally the staff brought the speakers over to do pool activities for adults which wasn't the best idea.

Staff - our biggest disappointment. No one went out of there way to speak to us, make eye contact, or offer help unless we sought them out. Most interactions were in limited English and little attempt made. Majority of the staff looked grumpy to be there. Our cleaning lady was the exception.

Room - very disappointing. Hole covered with lattice in the tub that leaked water all over the bathroom floor every shower, a door that had to be slammed shut (not the best with small kids). King bed requested and we got 2 queens (as did many others). Crib was requested and was never brought (luckily we brought our own pack n play)

Privilege - my parents went on their first trip in over 35 years so they paid extra money for privilege. They never found their butler, no one ever answered their phone calls, they had to fight for late check out (which is supposed to be included) and had absoluetly no different experience than us. DO NOT PAY FOR THE UPGRADE, IT ISN'T WORTH IT.

Food - so-so. Pretty much what you'll get anywhere in the Dominican.

Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend Ocean Blue. They have a lot of work to do to improve their rooms, service and staff.

Ocean Blue and Sand was an absolutely beautiful Resort. I just got back yesterday after spending a week there for a wedding. There were 46 of us in total.

The grounds are kept pristine! The beach on the privilege side is eroded but there is not much that the resort can do to fix that. One complaint is that the wedding hut on the beach is right next to the beach beds for other users. We found a few people in speedos standing behind the hut taking pictures while the bride and groom were exchanging vows. The area should have been roped off for the ceremony in my opinion.

The food was fairly good. I am a picky eater and I didn't starve.

I did not enjoy the Mexican restaurant. La Casa (only restaurant with a dress code) was delicious but not worth the 3 hour dining experience we received. Yes we were a table of 18 but the rest of the restaurant was empty other then a table or two. My appetizer was forgotten numerous times. I had kept asking for it and only received it with my entree after most of our group had finished their main entree! We ended up ordering our desert and after 40min we got up and left without it. Best meal I had all week was there but the wait was terrible.

The service in the Italian restaurant was great! As well as the food. Service elsewhere on the resort like in the buffet was terrible. Don't get me wrong, the servers in the buffet worked hard and were extremely busy but were always WAY understaffed for that size of room. This is management's fault for not supplying more servers. Another complaint I have is that this is the first all inclusive resort (and I have been lucky enough to have experienced a few in my life) where food was not always available. When drinks are served for 22hrs a day you should be able to get something to eat at all hours in my opinion.

We did tip fairly generously but this didn't help the service at the buffet only because they were so short of staff.

The entertainment staff were fantastic! These guys work 16+ hrs a day and always have the energy and a smile on their face!

We didn't get harassed too much by the H10 staff. But the vendors on the beach are very aggressive, haggling is the only way you will get somewhat of a good deal. I found a cute ring for my sister and the vendor originally wanted $65 for it, I ended up paying only $15. Another member of our group got suckered into paying $35 for the same ring from the same vendor.

The rooms were clean. There was only one day that the maid didn't clean it. This was somewhat our fault as she knocked on the door at 8:30am and we were still sleeping at that time and asked for her to come back and she never did. There was no mold or stale smell in our room. We stayed in room 4121 in Villa 4. We had a ground floor room with a nice view to a garden and a bit of the pool.

Room Tip: villa #4 was a nice location about halfway between the lobby/restaurants and the beach. The quieter...

My husband, myself and our 7 year old daughter just came back from a wonderful stay at OBS...there was a slight glitch upon check-in and the hotel was full so we had to go stay at the Vik Arena next door to OBS which was not that great! However, it was only one night and we were upgraded to Privilege due to their mistake! Once we arrived at OBS the next day, we felt it was much better than the Vik..my hubby is a very picky eater so the lunch buffet was a no-go for him but we all did enjoy the steak house and the privilege breakfast. The beach area is stunning minus a little seaweed and a few sandbags, but amazing nonetheless. We spent a lot of time at the pool, and I enjoyed the pool aerobics..the swim up bar was nice too. Overall a really fun vacation and we would definitely stay again!
