“Love at First Site”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We signed up for a Love at First Site visit to preview the resort for our February wedding there. We were upgraded to Royal Service which was a pleasant surprise. Our butler, Miguel was wonderful. We also had the opportunity to meet with the wedding vendors and sample some of the food choices. Raquel was our wedding host while we were there. We enjoyed her company. She made us reservations at 3 of the restaurants: Rare, which was fine, but bit loud, Palazzo for Royal Service guests only, the food and atmosphere were excellent and Vento, which was very good too. We ate once at Blue Agave and several times at the main eating area (breakfast, lunch). Fuego is where we had our wedding food tasting and it is also only for Royal Service, Reserve or Family concierge guests. The food was very good, although the beef was a bit tough. We did go snorkeling which was free. They take you out on a boat to a spot off shore. It was ok. I would have liked an area that was a bit more secluded, but I imagine you have to pay for that type of excursion. The seaweed was pretty bad on the beach. I asked Miguel about it and he said it is only like that in July and August. I hope he is right. The Royal Service pool was very nice. The staff is very attentive. I am very glad we chose this resort for our wedding. I can't wait to return in February!

August 2015 - Punta Cana Palma Real Resort Review: My family gives it a 2.5 out of 5 star review. We were Black Bracelet holders. We will not go back to Punta Cana...was not worth the money we paid and was not a true All Inclusive (Read More Below). The worst turn off was the tons of seaweed and sand fleas on the beach, in the first 2-3 days, there was so much seaweed (3-4 feet high), you could not even get to the ocean, smelled really bad and nearly brown water, so stayed around the pool area. They brought in dump trucks and bulldozers around the third day we were there to start scooping up the seaweed. Here are some more Pro's and Con's, Sorry but want to give you honest assessment for your money.

Pros:
- Very clean resort
- Beautiful landscaping, pink flamingos
- Housekeeping came daily and cleaned
- Beach gazebos and chairs were nice and comfortable
- Liked the two shows, "BEAT" and the "MICHAEL JACKSON" Tribute
- Three pools with options
- safes in Rooms
- Spacious Rooms, full kitchen, dining room, living room, great master bedroom, bathroom with jacuzzi tub and walk in shower
- Green tea ice cream
- Fuegos restaurant dinner was on time and actually pretty good fettuccine/chicken and fish for daughter
- We did a lot of meals at the main buffet area and the food was always great and a lot of selection, yet the staff was slow to respond with service
- Kids Club was good and had a buffet
- Drinks were always good, but Bartenders mixed up drinks alcohol vs non alcohol
- Juan Cedeno was great as our concierge, went and got me black jeans so I could go to the restaurants requiring long pants and took care of getting our reservations.
- Staff service varied from nice to not nice, seems it depended if you were wearing purple verses gold or black bands.
- Golf carts were always available
- kid had earache last two days and the clinic staff and doctor at main hospital nice, yet very expensive, over $600 dollars.

Cons:
- Slow lethargic WIFI, need to speed it up
- TV in master bedroom took multiple attempts to turn on, living room tv worked fine
- Continually had to ask staff to restock refrigerator
- No paddle boards or jet skis available
- first Restaurant we tried was Teppanyaki, great food but it took us two hours to get seated and served, that was with reservations
- ATM at resort only gave Dominican Pesos, but did not always work. No ATM to get other currency out.
- Smokers everywhere...staff would not correct people smoking by pools, had to do it ourselves, next resort we pick will be non smoking
- Resort tried to pressure you in to sitting thru a Pitch to become an exclusive member...beware
- Called four times to ready my daughters sleeping place on couch, never did get a manager on line, plus you need to replace the cheap almost non existent sofa mattress
- Had to ask for maid service to give us towels three days in a row
- Big storm last night of stay, was on third floor and had water leaking through a crack in ceiling over master bedroom and living room, called staff about it three times, then their answer was to move us to another building, during the storm, yikes
- the $1500 dollars in coupons was a waste, they gave you $300 towards a romantic dinner but meal was near $400-500. Gave you $120 in wine, but could only use one $20 coupon per bottle of wine which they wanted to charge a couple hundred dollars per bottle, same with Spa treatments, coupon $50 but only one per service and usually ran $20 and up
- wife wanted mother/ daughter manicure/pedicure, but resort did not support children
- the two shops on property were very expensive, come on $50 dollars for flip flops or $100 dollars for kids beach hat
- Snorkeling trips that were suppose to be part of the All Inclusive were difficult to book, due to so called availability, yet a purple bracelet could get them multiple times in a day
- Not a Real Inclusive Resort, seems you always had to "tip" if you wanted service, compare this resort verses Beaches Resort in Turks and Cacaos, the staff gets fired if trying to get tips, not allowed.
- Some of the staff at the restaurants were very rude.
- No yum yum sauce at the Japanese hibachi restaurant

Its a beautiful resort with beautiful water. The "experiences" they sell you are a scam. The Royal Service is a butler, who does nothing for you. The concierge tries to sell you on an hour time share lunch. Do not trust anyone that says "trust me", or believe them when they say that they will take care of it. The people at the help desk are generally rude, if you can get their attention at all. The beach waiters are there for ONE drink a day. After you give them a tip...they are gone. Everything sounds nice, but there is ALWAYS a catch.

We returned to Paradisus because last year we had a great experience. This year we were not disappointed. Although initially concerned because of not being able to get the same butler as last year in Royal Service, this year our butler Yohelvi Aracena had many wonderful surprises in store for us. He made our trip even more enjoyable. We look forward to returning and seeing our new found Dominican friends again. We were so pleased with our stay upon return home we immediately rebooked for next year. We confirmed also our favorite butler Yohel will be available. He had an over the top anniversary experience for us back in our room on the last day of our stay and it will not be forgotten. Anything we needed or wanted Yohel was just a phone call away. Even though he had other clients as well, we were made to feel the center of his attention. You have got to get this guy for your butler. He is passionate about his job and loves what he does.
This year many more restaurants were open as compared to last year after the fire. Passion was the ultimate as it always is. Try the sampling menu and leave your meal in the chef's hands. You will not be disappointed.
We also enjoyed Blue Agave, the Mexican restaurant, and Rare, the steakhouse. We would suggest to management they provide a seating area for couples (Royal Service) as distinct from families, or at least be more mindful of the seating of families with small children in an empty restaurant. The reason is we found ourselves at Fuego and Bana being seated and then families with small, uncontrolled, bratty children were then seated at the next table after us, whereas there were plenty of tables elsewhere in the restaurant. This definitely detracted from our experience at these two restaurants. We didn't want to eat only in Palazzo, the Royal Service only, restaurant. But these two experiences have us now rethinking that decision.
Our thanks to Kahren and Arcelcis and the entire staff at YHI Spa for a wonderful couples massage. Next time we must do a massage at the beginning and end of the week.
Wanda Correa at the Royal Service beach bar has to be mentioned also as she got me to try drinks I never even heard of. And they were good! Carlos on the beach always had our chosen chairs for us everyday and took very good care of us. We look forward to our next visit.
Our special thanks to Victoria in the Royal Service lounge for helping to resolve the small issues that always arise during a stay. She was gracious and understanding. Thank you again.
Paradisus is our home away from home. We will return. We recommend the Royal Service there to anyone. We have found it the most relaxing way to vacation.

This review is of our 1st stay at this all inclusive resort and my first experience in the Dominican Republic. I must say, this vacation and resort could not have been more peaceful and joyful, thanks to the quality service and excellent amenities this resort had to offer. My boyfriend and I were on a much needed escape from the hustle and bustle in NYC. If you are to stay at this resort, PLEASE opt for royal service - it is certainly worth your money having your own butler and services catering to you. It certainly made our trip special and it is all thanks to our butler - Eduard. From the minute we met, he was there for us any time we called and requested anything or were curious about anything. We appreciate his never-ending help and hospitality and we are grateful for his services! We always had a reserved bali bed on the beach waiting for us every morning, we had reservations to every restaurant we dined at, as well as assistance on setting up activities each day. It was like being waited on hand and foot every minute of the day. What more can you ask for on a much needed tropical vacation?
Our butler helped us go on activities such as parasailing, visiting Saona island, schedule massages - all of which we highly recommend! Also do not forget to dine at Passion - 10 course exquisite meal for only $70 per person. We enjoyed every single bite!

A quick word about our room - very clean, were able to request foam pillows which was a huge plus. Enjoyed the extra liquor and drinks in the fridge. The jacuzzi was amazing especially coming back to the room after a long day out on Saona island to a beautiful rose petal bath. The bed was very soft and comfy and we enjoyed a good nights sleep every night.

The best dinner was obviously at Passion. But the food at Palazzo was by far the best. We ate there every day for breakfast sometimes lunch and dinner. The steak restaurant and japanese was so so. Drinks overall at every bar/restaurant were practically all juice but still enjoyable.

Also a big thank you to all the employees working in royal service. I don't think we encountered one person that did not smile or tend to our every need in a helpful way. Everyone was super helpful and welcoming to us - especially Luz at the front desk, everyone at Palazzo, the royal service agents, and the very nice, tall waiter on the beach that always had the same spot reserved and waiting for us on the beach. Overall this experience will never be forgotten and hopefully we will make it back here someday!

I would like to provide an honest review of this resort. I was very very disappointed with this resort and would NEVER stay here again. It is not worth it for the money. The rooms had bugs, beds were very uncomfortable, the check-in process was a nightmare, and the food was not great. They promised us a double-bed and when we get there we find out its a one bed room with a pull-out sofa bed, which they claimed was the second bed. This sofa bed had about an inch of cushion and there was a bar that would poke into your back. They refused to provide us a new room. The casino didn't even open till 7 pm on a daily basis. The resort credit they promise you is literally a joke (they are coupons/discounts to already very overpriced things). They also placed in a room that was literally a 15 minute hike to get anywhere, even after telling them we were travelling with a one year old baby. And because the rooms are semi-outdoors, it was very dark and almost scary to walk to our rooms. There was barely any hallway lighting. The bugs would keep entering your rooms. Our check-in process took two hours, and the staff during our check in were rude and clueless (please read below for a more detailed review). They argued with us upon check in. The resort also over-charged us upon check-in. Honestly for how much we paid, this resort is just not worth it. With that said, there were some positive aspects of this resort. The bar situation was decent, the resort was generous with the alcohol. The pools were also very nice. Making a restaurant reservation was also easy; however, they are only open for dinner. For lunch, buffet is the best option.

Please read below for a more detailed experience of my stay.

When I arrived at the check-in counter, they were unable to find my reservation. I provided them with a confirmation receipt that clearly had a confirmation number and the name of the resort. For 20 minutes they kept telling me they couldn't find us in the system and assumed we were staying at the Reserve section of the resort without even confirming if wI would like to provide an honest review of this resort. However, there were some positive aspects of this resort. The bar situation wae were staying at the Reserve. Keep in mind I was travelling with a baby and we had five adults with about 9 luggage items. Finally after arguing with them for 20 minutes, they were able to magically find us in the system. When we originally booked with this resort through a Melia representative, the rep had told us that since we were travelling with two non-drinking adults, to add the last adult to the reservation upon arrival at the resort because they sometimes give you discounts for non-drinking adults. However, upon check-in at the resort, they told us that there would be no discount and on top of that they were charging us almost 5 times what we had originally paid for one additional adult upon originally making the reservation. The staff and manager at the check in counter were completely CLUELESS, RUDE, and NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. After discussing and arguing with them we got nowhere and decided to just pay the over-priced rate for the 5th adult. The whole check in process took us TWO HOURS! Finally when we get to our rooms, we find out its a 10-15 walk from the lobby. I seriously have no idea why they gave us such a far room when the entire resort was empty. We were travelling with a one year old, so having to walk 15 min each time to go anywhere was very annoying! We also discovered there was only a single bed, and we had book a double-bed room, which was clearly stated on our reservation. We call the front desk and they refused to change our room. We had to use to sofa bed for the second bed, which had no cushion and was pretty much unsleepable!! And even the regular bed there was very uncomfortable; it kept caving in the middle. The shower head was made for a person who was only 5 ft. The head was so slow! The cleaning service didn't replace our shampoos/body washes daily, so we would have to call them daily to replace it. There were also bugs everytime you stepped into the room!

One of the reasons we also wanted to stay here because we were told there many restaurant options. On the first day we go there, which was a Saturday, all the restaurants were closed and we were forced to eat the buffet. The food at all the restaurants was AWFUL; it had no flavor!! Only the buffet and a another international restaurants (which was also crap) was open for lunch. The beach was another disaster, there was dead rotten seaweed everywhere making the beach completely unusable. The towel situation was also very annoying...they had one towel station for the entire resort (beach and pools). It was 5 minute hike every time you needed to get towels.
