“Following in others foosteps”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2009

Having looked at other recent reviews it is difficult to add anything without repeating the favourable comments being offered for this hotel....

Victor working in the poolside bar nearest to reception is a vocal 'wassap' professional and using his own words became our number 1 barman, make sure you hook up with him, his love of life, sparkle and desire to please make up for others who are not as bouncy!!

Looking at previous reviews I would agree that you may need to 'encourage' your room cleaner to keep you sufficiently stocked with towels and coffee making supplies otherwise they do tend to let you down, this was the ONLY negative thing we felt let the hotel down.

We first visited Saona Island in 2003, on our latest visit we found it had changed so much and this experience was not as captivating. If you have been before we would suggest not going again as you desire to recapture the past may be disappointing. However if you have never been before, we would recommend it very worthy a visit, however your visit may depend upon transfer and pickup times to get there.

A wide range of food is always on offer, that prepared upon request was always to a high standard, however anyone with a delicate stomach may need to watch the 'standing' pre-prepared food which was quite often only just warm.....

Individual taste and requirements around accommodation, food and entertainment is so varied to make it unfair for us to make judgements which stop others enjoying themselves, whilst some elements may not have been to our own personal preferences we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and based on this would recommend the hotel as an excellent place to stay.

We just arrived back from our honeymoon (stayed from August 15-22).... havent even fully unpacked yet but I wanted to write a quick review!!

Cleanliness - The resort is kept immaculately clean. There is always someone cleaning the pool, working on the gardens, cleaning up the beach, etc. Housekeeping also did a great job making sure our room was clean and stocked everyday with fresh towels & toiletries

Location - Only 35 minutes from the Punta Cana Airport. Sounds like a great location to me lol. They also have excellent beach property, there is lots of room to spread out and we never had a problem finding a palapa with some chairs no matter what time of day. The layout of the resort is also ideal. It was easy to identify where things were in the resort with the maps and signage throughout the property.

Rooms - We had the Oceanfront Colonial Suite. These rooms are very spacious inside and out.. Our suite was equipped with a king size bed, jacuzzi tub, stand up shower, and sitting area. The baclony/terrace was huge with an outdoor jacuzzi and 2 lounge chairs plus an outdoor sitting area. The view of the beach was breathtaking!

Service - Fast and Friendly! We met some amazing staff members who helped make our honeymoon very memorable! Murhi at the Plaza bar makes the best drinks in the world and he will tell you that himself! Nelson is an amazing supervisor at the Supreme Buffet, he will always greet you with a smile and ask you how your day is going, and no matter how busy he is he will make sure to stop and have a friendly chat. Denny the beach concierge will never let you have a thirsty day on the beach... he works hard to make sure that everyone on the beach has a drink! Rafael at the Beach Restaurant is another hard working member of the staff who always made sure he had time to greet us and give us wonderful comments! On our last day we met some wonderful people by the pool bar. One of the bartenders heard us talking to another staff member about the last day of our honeymoon and gave my husband and I a shot of mamajuana to congratulate us LOL. We also got to meet Oreste, one of the members of the animation team We struck up a lively converation and he even seranaded us with his proffesionally singing! All of these guys are the best, they are what make the resort a 5 star!!!

I believe that it is easy to find a great 5 star resort with high ratings of all of the above (cleanliness, location, rooms, service & value) however I would have to say that what made this resort stand out the most for us was the staff! We would definitely go back to this resort and we recommend it to everyone!

Recommnded to anyone going to the DR for the first time. We enjoyed our 7 days.
Beautiful beaches and breath taking sceneries.
All workers were very friendly and helpful. FOOD was okay .. we got used to it after 1 day.
Luckily none of us got sick. Sun can be harsh in the afternoons.. pack lots of suncreen.
Drink lots of bottled water.. Service was good in all the restaurants.
Pools were excellent.. Visit the Sanoa Island if you have time.. the bus ride to get there and back was long ( 6 hours ) but the speed boats and the catamaran was great.
overall a very happy trip for the four of us.

On my visit to the majestic, i found the first week of the holidays was extremely clean and with lovely staff! the atmosphere was exelent however there were only a few english people there. The weather was far too hot for me an and my family... and a lot of other people with pale skin.

FOOD- the breakfasts were exellent there were so many thing to choose from! The lunches were also very good and value for money. There was a good choice of restaurants and bars for the night time. the best restaurant was the french le gourmet restaurant, but if you want to go there then men have to wear long trousers/pants and collar shirts ! WORTH IT THOUGH ! there was also cakes and tea in the piano bar in the afternoons.

ROOMS-very clean and the maidstaff were friendly and mini fridges were replenished daily (inclusive).

POOL-amazing and clean - for the first week - clenliness slipped after a while . But great and huge.

Theres much more but if you have any questions PLEASE EMAIL ME !

Just came back from Majestic colonial, i am from Montreal and i had a great time.

first of all, I thought that the service was overall wonderful. These people are always smiling and being curtious, even the landscapers would always smile and say hello to us. I particularly loved DENNY THE BEACH CONCIERGE, he is the only waiter on the beach, this guy worked ALL day and ran around to get everyone drinks.... always smiling!
BRING MANY $1.00's for tips, these people count on them and DESERVE them! DONT BE CHEAP!
Okay down to business,
the food: for the Dominican. I have had ALOT worst in the DOminican. The breakfast buffet was always amayzing, i cant even tell you how good the Mangos are... it was more than acceptable. The french resto had great lambchops, the chineese was was the only thing that i found gross... chow mein was ewwwwwwww. however the Japanees Beni Hanna food was really really good and the vhef was alot of fun. Make sure to make a reservation. The buffet by the beach always had a nice lunch which had alot of variety. The sea food resto had a great lobster. Only thing i didnt enjoy on the resort were deserts. Creme Brule and Creme Caramel tasted too much like eggs. The only good deserts were in the Chineese resto, the fried ice cream and the tempura banana were WOW.

Rooms: were okay, but i didnt really care as long as there are no colorful sheets i am okay! I dont really spend alot of time in the rooms but if you do, the Majestic Elegence next door (the resorts are connected) had nicer rooms. The only thing i disliked about the rooms were the fact that the bed sheets always felt a slight bit damp but it is because it is sooo humid there... if you plan on a triple occcupancy, i found that the two small beds were kinda small for two people to sleep in, ask for the extra bed.
NO BUGS i was on ground floor never saw any!

Club: was whatever... There is better off the resort (mangoo which is a cab ride away) it was always dead.

Enterteinment: was good. Not more then that... the Michael Jackson show was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good, dont miss it! oh and one night they have Karaoke which was fun too!

Fitness and tennis: loved the little boys at the tennis court, i would go alone and they would play with me! the gym was clean and nice but i did not like the machines and some of them did not work properly.

Great resort, great staff, great food, good vaycay. thank you to the staff

ps when were leaving and having lunch for the last time Nelson the supervisor even offered to wrap us food to go on the plane... how nice of him

pps take the tour to Saona island, it is sooo much fun!
