We went on vacation from November 25 to december 1rst.
The hotel was at half capacity, and there was always a lot of seats near the pool and on the beach.
Excellent room with view on the pool and the sea. The beach is awesome, with a lot of palapas to get away from the sun.
Food is good, mostly at the Gourmet and mexican, but quite repetitive at the buffet.
Service on the beach is great, with Denny who is always there to get you what you want, and Pablo at the beach restaurant, who is always smiling.
Great hotel, would come back.

We are quite seasoned travellers having been to quite a few of the islands and Mayan Riviera. Our expectations for this property were pretty much met as we usually book a 5 star or above property.

Location: The beach specific to our hotel was ok, the entrance was through a fair amount of rock so a poor swimmer would find it non-friendly. Not a bad commute from the airport on a nice air conditioned bus though.

Room: Very nice. We upgraded to the Junior Suite OceanFront with outdoor Jacuzzi and well worth it. Top of last building so looking right out onto the ocean. Bed was hard but comfortable. Safe did not work and even after three calls to front desk it was not even looked at. Fortunately we were with a group and could use someone else's safe. Having said that, we did leave money and stuff lying around and none was ever taken by the cleaning staff. Do not expect face clothes. Room was quiet. Do not expect restocking of mini bar with alcohol related elements unless you tip. Do not use water for anything but washing, in fact they have little signs on your taps telling you not to.

Resort staff: Front desk ok, certainly a step below what we have come to expect. Wait staff in the buffet and dining rooms were excellent. Very polite, helpful and cheerful. Bartenders varied and certainly improved on tips! Alex in the main bar was wonderful.

Food: If you can get over the fact that food may be washed or prepped in water that should not be drunk, the food was just ok. The buffet was probably the best from a size and variety that we have experienced however in general the food was not hot enough to be viewed as safe. The Japanese restaurant was excellent value, the rest just ok. The best of the rest being the Mexican / Dominican restaurant.

Wedding: The "chapel" was very nice, the private party area as well. The wedding officiant needs to learn to speak into the microphone since it is her job she should know how. We could hear the bride and groom perfectly so it was not the sound system.

Golf: Well worth it. The Nick Price course is excellent value, well maintained. Good greens, staff very helpful and service oriented.

Overall: Fair value for a four star. If you expect service level of a higher end resort, this one is not for you unless you want to tip every single time you interface with one of the staff. Food is four star for DR or slightly lower for overall Caribbean.

My friends and I stayed at Majestic Colonial from November 9-14. As soon as we arrived, we were stunned by the beautiful grounds. The bell boy took our luggages and escorted us to our room immediately. The long and super clean pool is one of the best features of this resort. At the beach, we tried the banana boat ($13 per person) and snorkeling (about $35 which included equipments and boat ride). If you are going to snorkel, I would definitely recommend bringing your own snorkel since all the equipments are shared by hundreds of people. We would like to thank Freddy and Pedrito from the Main Buffet for being very attentive and friendly to us all the time. We miss you guys already :( I also loved the omlette from the main buffet. We would definitely come back to this resort when we return for next trip!!

Pretty much just returned from an awesome wedding week in Punta Cana(Nov 17-24, 2012) .

To make a quick review....

The wedding was awesome, the weather was very nice, food was excellent except one occasion, they had a bunch of activities for everyone everyday and the Majestic Colonial in D-R made it all come true. We rented a boat La Barcaza on the day of the wedding(with cocktails, entertainement, and open bar...if you drink to much..even washrooms on the boat) and spent an entire afternoon on the ocean and it was a blast for all of our 34 guests.

To top it up, we even did trash the dress in the Ocean and the pool the next day, never had so much fun. Can't wait for the pictures!!! Our photographer from Ottawa Canada Eva Hadhazy Photography was awesome and would recommend her anytime ....

If you have a wedding down south, I would strongly recommend Majestic Colonial...No wonder they do 2-3 weddings a day on this resort. If you need more info p.m. me.
