“Huge resort complex”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Just spent a lovely 2 weeks at this 'hotel', room was large, well furnished, air conditioned ( a must in Dom Rep) & the bed was the biggest i have ever seen! Its described as a hotel but really its a group of villas which is better for privacy, grounds are immaculate at all times. There's lots of swimming pools to choose from the ones near the beach get very busy & noisy but are well catered for with bars a snack restaurant, toilets etc. Fortunately there's several bus trains (free) running up & down the complex as its a bit of a hike if you happen to be at the other end of the resort . The beach is beautiful with shoreline palm trees, soft almost white sand we took a stroll up & down the beach past other hotels & the Bahia Principe defo has the best stretch. Evening entertainment was always good and..entertaining! Two shows are a must see The Michael Jackson show & the Circus of Dreams both stunning in different ways. Other shows had lots of audience participation which was always funny.
On a slightly sour note the food in the buffet restaurant can only be described as ok, there was a lot of choice but some exotic looking/sounding dishes turned out to be quite bland but you can't please all the people all the time.
Would i go back..yes but would like to try Cuba first.

Room Tip: Choose a room towards middle of complex where you are not too far but not too close to all the activ...

This resort was absolutely fantastic. The beach is beautiful, the staff is friendly, the food is tasty, and the atmosphere is great! I stayed here with a friend, and we never were short of anything to do! The bartenders are so friendly, and always make such great drinks. Even the night club was fun! The rooms were very clean, and we never had one complaint. The resort isn't too big, so you don't find yourself overwhelmed. Grand Bahia is suitable for every age; from kids to teens, adults, and elderly. We met so many amazing people that made our vacation just that much better! I highly reccomend this resort for people who are travelling to Punta Cana for the first time. This resort will deffinitely make you want to come back!

Room Tip: Higher floors and balcony are recommended.

We just got back from spending a week at this resort. We have been to many places (resorts) and I have to say - this is the worst resort I have ever been to. I would never go back. The resort is too busy and they can't handle the number of people.
Here are a few points;

1. you have to wake up at 7 am in order to save a chair on the beach or pool;
2. if you dont get a towel for the beach by 8am they don't have anymore;
3. the resort is huge - there is alot of walking. This is not good for people who have small children or have medical issues. The bus is always full and it is difficult to get seats. Then you have to wait for the next one to come and hope it isn't full as well.
4. the staff refuse to speak english!
5. my daughter has food allergies and they couldn't understand - this was a huge issue for me.
6. 1 women at guest services looked like she would rather be somewhere else then helped my family and I book our 3 restaurants. We didn't get the ones we wanted as she said we were too big of a party (6 people).
7. if you want to watch the shows they put on - again you have to get there an hour before in order to get a seat.
8. the entertaiment guys are very inappropriate. They need to remember this is a FAMILY resort!
9. we had a leak in our bathroom ceiling that was dripping all over the floor and light fixture - we complaint 3 times.
10. harrasement from the sales people.
11. when you check out no one cares and asked if you were happy or says thank you.
I could go on but I am sure you get the idea..
the only good points;
1. the grounds are very well maintained - very clean
2. the food is good
3. the weather
4. Jose on the beach - he does a GREAT job! he keeps the beach so clean, always smiling - very nice guy.

This was our first time going to Punta Cana.....we LOVED it!!!!!! I would recommend this resort, for sure!!!! Yes, everyone has their own opinions about the place, we were very happy. The grounds are well manicured....we always saw people on the grounds to up keep it. Our maid we had during our stay, in the 76 VIllas,(Rooms 76305 and 76306) from June 25 to July 2, was FANTASTIC...always clean room and fridge was always stocked with drinks(pop, beer and water). She is a very sweet girl!!!!!
The beach is AMAZING!!!!! While at the beach we always ate at Las Olas Snack Bar....got to know one of the waiters.....Cristian Castro...LOVED him!!!!!! Actually trying to find him on facebook to send him a picture we had taken as a family...if anyone can help I would really appreciate it. He was always HAPPY and made us laugh...GREAT amigo!!!!!!! Ola, Cristian(Cristain)!!!!!!! The famous drink they have is called Mama Juana....that drink was not for me....I really enjoyed the CocoLoco!!! Food was good...no complaints.....waiters are friendly, they would just start singing whenever they felt like....my daughter loved that about them. We went to 3 a-la-cart restaurants......Japanese(Miako) very good, great waiters, Italian(Il Capriccio) , our waiter from the beach worked there too,Cristian Castro.....food was DELIZIOSO(delicious) and Garden Grill, also friendly waiters and amazing food!!!!! All three places are BEAUTIFUL!!!!! The entertainment was very good....myself and my daughter watched the Michael Jackson show.....AMAZING!!!!!!!!! WOW, these people can dance!!!!!!!!! We really enjoyed our stay!!!! MUCHO GUSTO to Gran Bahia Principe Bavaro and to all the people that made our stay relaxing and enjoyable!!!!!! OLA!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to start off by saying that this review is for the people who have been reading other reviews and are "iffy" about going to the Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro (I was one of those people not to long ago). EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN OPINION. I went with a group of 9 (ages 19-26) (left june 24-July 1, 2013). I found that the hotel is very clean and the staff is very nice (there are obvioualy the odd few that are having a miserable day and won't even look at you). The food, in my opinion, was really good. I am a very picky eater, and I have no complains. You are entitled to 3 returants (el a carts).. I HIGHLY reccomend you go to 3 of the resturants. oneof the couples that was in our group went to the Japanese and had nothing but good things to say about it. The rest of us went to the Santa Fe (Mexican) and The Garden Grill. AMAZING. Yes the resort is HUGE, but there are the "trains" that come often. I stayed in villa 76 (which by the way, the "standard room" which is a Junior Suite is in my opinion BIG for a standard room. LOVED IT). It was roughly a 10 minute walk from the beach and 5 minute walk to the reception. With positives, comes negatives. The only negative thing I would have to say is the beach towels- they would run out of towels quick. When we would bring our towel back for a new one, 8/10 times we were given our beach card back and were told to come back the following morning. Also, there is no bar that is open 24 hours. The lobby bar closed at midnight. If you wanted another bar, you'd have to go to the sports bar, which was always PACKED with people. The only snack bar that was open 24 hours only served beer and wine. Again, everyone has opinions and personally, for a younger crowd, this is something that we'd except to have 24 hours- A BAR (hello, all inclusive). Also, i reccomend to save your pool chairs or beach chairs in the morning (place your towels on the chairs you want to save) because both the pool and beach get full quickly. (the pool im refering to is the one directly on the beach. There are 2 other "relazing pools") Other than that, I'd say that that the Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro is a great hotel and would reccomend it 100%.

Stayed here from June 18-25. Had a great time overall. Starting with complaints: Very pushy sales people at the beach, constantly approaching you about excursions and jewelry. I had to pretend to be sleeping so they'd leave me alone! Very pushy salesmen selling souvenirs at the outdoor theatre that is surrounded by shops. They call out to you as walk to the casino, the club, or the sports bar. Don't make eye contact! One man brings you over and gives you a free cheap necklace and then badgers you to buy something. It's all expensive too. Shot glasses you'd find in Canada or the U.S for $1 are about $4/5 there. Also, it can be hard to find someone who speaks english sometimes, but I guess you'd expect this. And this resort is really TOO BIG. To have to take the trolly around was a hassle. A lot of times its full and we'd have to wait for the next one. It was easy to get lost. Very difficult to find seats at the pool and the beach. At the pool you were lucky if you could find one empty chair. At the beach you could find them very far away from the ocean and you wouldn't feel a breeze, just dry heat. And the restaurants, you're not missing out if you don't go to the a la carte ones. They usually have a mini buffet in them and you can choose 1 option from a menu.
We made the best of this trip, a group of friends. Beautiful grounds, well maintained. Entertainment was okay, a lot of Spanish, not too much translating to English, so they lost me there. Nice people overall, of course you get some rude people who look so fed up and bored with their jobs.
I would not go back, I prefer Cuba. Its the same stuff for much cheaper and you can buy souvenirs there in their currency. Actually get a deal! Like $2 for a 750mL bottle of rum at the duty free airport. Beautiful beaches with tons of seating. The people hired at resorts must speak english in Cuba. The excursions are better are cheaper.
