“The good and the bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Overview: There were a lot of French people at the resort so it was harder to find English speaking people. The resort is technically two resorts in one, so it increases your facilities and space.

Good: The guys that work at the shop on the beach were really nice and they took good care of us. I recommend booking any water related activities (surf, swim with sharks, speed boat etc) through them instead of your travel company because it was cheaper and still good quality. The bartenders were pretty good too, especially the pool bar ones. The rooms were clean, nothing to complain about inside the room and our cleaning lady even gave us an extra bottle of rum!

Bad: Maybe it was a one-off, but because it rained a little in the morning, our passes didn't work and we couldn't get into our units (everyone in our villa had the same problem) for a few hours one night. My biggest issue though was the food. We ended up meeting some Americans and Aussies and everyone had eaten at different restaurants and also had stomach issues. No one was 'hospital ill', but I think I felt better eating the food from Cuba.

If I go back to Punta Cana, I would try another resort. Overall, a 3.5!

I stayed here with my 13 year old daughter in late February during her winter break from school. The trip from the airport was $35.00 each way and they expect American money. There is a place to exchange money at the airport where I obtained some Dominican Republic money. This was a waste of time and unnecessary because most people prefer US currency. Just make sure you have lots of small bills for tipping.
The hotel was great with good food and unlimited drinks. You need reservations for the theme restaurants so be sure to make the reservation as soon as you arrive.

Room Tip: Make restaurant reservations early.

Despite some initial challenges with the room, which were handled promptely and professionally by Jeffery and the Front Desk Staff, this resort is amazing. We have been to both coasts of Mexico and hanve never been treated better by resort staff anywhere. The drinks are not watered down and the bartenders take pride in remembering your drink if choice.
The food at the Buffet was always fresh and flavourful, the hot dishes were hot and to cold dishes were always cold, although sometimes clean plates were rare.
The Brazillian a la carte was a true feast, while the Domincan was a treat for the taste buds.
Commnicating wth the staff was relatively easy, most spoke English, and were always willing to provide impromptu Spanish lessons. I have never been to a resort in which the staff were always singing and dancing while working, no one looked like they were just doing a job. They all seem to love what they do and it comes through in the service level.
The Seapro excursion staff is great, the snorkling tour and parasailing are excellent value. Freddy is a great captain and guide.
A short walk on the beach takes one to the beach front shopping area, the shop owners here are always willing to make a deal, just remember for Canadians bringing home Mamajuana, you cannot bring home just the dry ingredients, it has to be a the already mixed version.
The only negative, bugs! Make sure you have good bug spray for the evenings. We travelled with another couple and both ladies were bit multiple times nightly yet both of us men were left completely alone.

We stayed at the Tropical Princess in April 2012 for a week. We are a 50ish couple and travelled alone. This was our first trip south and we enjoyed it greatly. The only complaint I would have is that we arrived at the resort mid morning, and had to wait until 3:00 pm for our room. We had packed swim clothes in our carry ons so we headed to the beach for a while. Our overall experience was a good one. The food, while not spectacular was good for buffet food. I am usually a picky eater and I was able to find something I liked for each meal. The staff was wonderful!, They were freindly and helpful always. I got a little annoyed with the vendors that came to set up directly on the resorts, but I had no problem telling them I wasn't interested. We went to a local 'mall' shopping one day but it was not a pleasant experience. The vendor's were way to aggressive. But a day or so later I found the vendor's stalls farther down the beach and enjoyed those much better. The vendor's weren't nearly as aggressive as at the 'mall'. I liked the fact that a shuttle travelled throughout the resort frequently, to transport guests to other areas of the resort. This was very helpful for us because my husband is not able to walk long distances. We met some other Canadians, more specifically, fellow Newfoundlanders that were staying at this resort as well as the Club Caribe which is practically the same resort. This led to some fun times as well. Overall, we had a great experience. I would recommend this resort. :)

We arrived, with another couple,at the Tropical Princess Feb 20th to Feb 27th. The first thing that I must mention to people is that you have to make sure and bring American Money. Our travel agent did not mention this to us. They don't like there own Dominican Peco or Canadian money. We brought Dominican Peco's. Made it very difficult. If you need to convert money, or get money from your Visa, they charge you alot!!! PRO's-- The beach was amazing. The buffet staff were incredible, helpful, funny, hard working. The buffet is OK, with many things to choose from. There is always something you can find to your liking. Ala Cart, especially the Brazilian. Activities outside of the Resort are lots of fun, but be prepared to pay quite a bit for them. CONS--- Beds are extremely hard!! They cater to French and Russian people. Be prepared for the staff not to understand alot of English. The Dominican Airport is a nightmare!! Very unorganized. Make sure to bring lots of money for tipping, buying Dominican Rum, Mama Wana, cigars, jewelry, vanilla, coffee, and pictures. If you book outings, staff and others will all hit you up to purchase there products. Overkill!! We had a nice time, but not sure if we will be returning.

this is my 4th trip to punta cana and decide to change resorts what a big mistake that was .....
the pros: animation crew were very entertaining, always getting everyone involve. The resort was very big, lots of space to walk around. beautiful beach, awesome pool,
the cons: they are always on personal phone calls i know spanish and they were talking personal on their cell phone while i stared at them *hello* service is very poor at lobby and maintenance, No towels in room or pool area. No iron and when we requested one it was 50 min wait!! No lock for safe box, fridge out of order. Food could be better, dry chicken, hard rice. . Next night was Mexican night (hello we are in DR) they need better service and food.. Lots of mosquitos,

We stayed at Tropical Princess for one week in February 2013 with 2 adults and a 1yr old.
Pros:
The staff was super-friendly besides the language barrier.
The food was plenty, average quality, but different theme every night, and if you did not like the theme food, there were always pizza, pasta, cold cuts and burgers to fall back onto.
We did not try the reservations-only restaurants since that was too much hassle with the baby. The desserts were out of this world great and gorgeous!
The beds were comfortable. The room was quiet once the doors were closed.
Everything was very clean, except the cigarette butts at the beach that another visitor mentioned. There were receptacles for cigarettes but the rude smokers just dumped them wherever - not much the staff could do about it but pick them up every night.
Three pools to chose from, one with swim-up bar, and one that had plenty of shade trees which kept us from burning up.
Cons:
Animation and event announcements were all in Spanish and French only.
Not many trips to chose from that allowed young children.
Outside the all-inclusive, the area was crazy expensive, even further away from the tourist areas: sun block $18, baby wipes (12 count) $8, a "cheap" lunch for the 3 of us ran $50!
Not enough water pressure available for the rain shower head, but the hand shower worked great and always had ample warm water for all of us.
A bit far away from shops and outside attractions.
Vacation rental sales people picking up unsuspecting tourists for a time-share talk inside the resort.
Spa staff did not speak much English or German either, so it was hard to communicate how I liked my massage.
We loved the place and the people there, so we will definitely go back once the children are older and can do more. All the negatives were minor from our point of view and did not bother us much, but I listed them for completeness sake since they may be a big deal to other travelers.
