“'Nice but boring'”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

Me and my husband have just returned from this resort after spending 2 weeks there.
Although the staff were good, we found it quite difficult to be understood, we did not seem to get the same treatment as other nationalities, although the staff were friendly.
The daytime entertainment was water aerobics!!!, on Thursdays however a performance was put on at one of the pools which we found funny.
Our room was large and comfortable, maids only forgot to put clean towels in 3 times!!.
we could not fault the food, pools, beach or room.
There is a children's club there and although we did not have children we were shocked when the rep looking after small children put there their arm bands on them let them go in the pool then sat on a sun bed chatting, not watching them!!!
The Thomson rep however (Johnny) was friendly but did not give us any information, We went on the boogie cap cana trip which requires you to wear sunglass to protect your eyes, Johnny did not pre warn us of this and we had to purchase them when we got there.
We asked him if they took English money at the airport, yes he said but they didn't!!!
And please be aware that when you get to the airport on your return you will require a blue form filled in, Johnny never gave us these and we had to fill them out at the airport, Please ask him for it.
Overall we found this resort nice but boring.
Would we return? NO

Room Tip: 'choose top floor as its quieter' we were in room 1332

We had our family vacation here in June the beach and water were very beautiful. We had a great stay . The rooms were very comfortable, lots of pools. The restaurants were good there was alot of variety for an all inclusive. The drinks were good. They stroll around the properties with cameras and take professional pictures with different wildlife animals. The peacocks roam around over the property, and a train takes you around as the property is large. Very accommodating as there are many tour companies on site. Loved Punta Cana

We (couple with child) stayed at the Caribe Princess with the Caribe VIP package purchased thru Hotels.com. $40 cab fare from PUJ airport.
Check in was pretty simple, as the week was paid in advance thru Hotels.com. We were given 1 smart key for room 2237. we were then directed to the VIP concierge for a detailed explanation of our Caribe VIP Package. I did some research before hand so I questioned if our room is ocean front or ocean view, we were given pool view room. According to staff, I am not garanteed ocean front/view and I should take it up with Expedia( every US booking is called Expedia.com). Intrestingly enough my printout of the hotel reservation didn't mention a view, but it showed a View on the website. ??? I was told to ask after noon the next day, something should come up.
2237 was a good clean room very near to the beach, and faced the pool bar. We were going settle for this room, but I called anyway to inquire about the beach view, we were then moved to 2206. Partial beach/ pool view. 2 minute walk to the sand. newer TVs with av inputs but no flat screen. not a big deal.
The Food, first night we had no choice but Mexican Buffet. The place was packed with lines for the hot station, complete crazyness. not a good experience, I ate bread and fruit I was so dissapointed. For the following nights we had the Brazilian , the asian, dominican x2,italian, la pescador ala cartes.. We did another night in the buffet by choice, we had a better experience this time.
To make reservations at the ala cartes , guest have to go to the main lobby of their building , and make 3 reservations at once. come the following day or two to make 3 more. for the VIP meal one has to bring the voucher to make the meal reservations. la cana and the pescador alternates dates for the beach location so you need to plan. one of the regular ladies that handle the reservations should take some friendlyness lessons. she had a very cold and stale attitude.
the resort is laid out pretty good. the buffet and alacarte resturaunts share the same area, and is central to every room. with the exception of the Brazilian and la pescador, which are used as beach/snack bar during the day, and for dinner at night.
the resort shares with tropical princess.this gives you access to 3 pools to choose from. the pool at the caribe has a pool bar and activities. the tropical pool has a bar but dont recall any activities... then theres another pool tucked further from the ocean in the village part which is very good for young children and low noise. its zero entry, mostly 2 ft. deep, going to 3 ft. with a vollyball net. the caribe pool had something different every day. beach bar b que, inflatable slides, beach party at night etc.
The beach was had good waves, but the water wasnt as clear as I had expected. there was sea grass in the water, but it wasnt bad. the chair lounger under palapas system sucks hear. there is no system. people stake there spots at 630 am. I would see them from my balcony. This didnt concern me much, when we would look for a spot, If we wanted a palapa and chair, we looked for chairs that had towels only. we would then ask someone close by how long its been empty or ask the server. we would just remove the towels and take over the palapa. one couple did have the nerve to tell me thats their spot, even though we were there for 1 1/2 hours. dont call me unfair.
there was mini golf and other activities at this resort, but we never had a chance to get the supplys. the activity center would close early. there is supposed to be bicycles availiable to guest, but I only saw staff using them. they should reconsider opening later.
there isnt much to do outside the resort unless you have some sort of motorized transportation.
we did use the resort doctor, which is there 24 hours, and were happy with her service. very professional.
The gift shop charges very high prices for suntan items. 35$ for a $10 bottle of suntan lotion is not right. they also didnt have sunburn cream for 4 days we were there. Im suprised the D.R. doesent produce and sell there own products especially sunburn cream/gel. the gift shop does have a good selection of clothing items though, with fairly reseonable prices.
we had a good time at caribe princess. we wouldnt visit again. the VIP upgrade isnt worth it unless you like to drink Miller beer from the bottle, and require name brand booze, and enjoy the hassle of signing for every perk. The lobster dinner at the Pescador was
good , but not a fancy dinner. There wasn't really anyone following a dress code at any of the ala cartes.

Room Tip: since you cant really choose a specific room, you could ask for a room switch, and the bellman would...

We booked a 6-day stay at the Caribe Club Princess thru http://bookit.com On arrival on Saturday, the manager told us that they did not have our reservation. I showed him all of the various documents that I had printed confirming our reservation. I reminded him that their shuttle bus from the airport had our name on the list of transferees. Nada.

I suggested that he call the Princess reservations people. He refused. I suggested he call Book It. He refused because calling the U.S. would be a toll call. He demanded - and we handed over - Four Hundred ($400.00) Dollars in order to check in. This was all of our cash. We asked him to take a credit card instead, but he refused.

He told us that we would have to pay $200.00 cash (where would we get that? The good cash fairy?) per day on and after Monday until our reservation could be confirmed. If you're getting the idea that our vacation was less than expected, BINGO! The matter was cleared up on Monday...not by the manager (there's a surprise) but by VIP Travel Services which is an independent company whose services we had included in our travel package.

Book It did make an adjustment for us, and I thank them for it. Club Caribe? Not so much. And the manager? Don't ask.

Punta Cana is always my favorite place to visit. This hotel is an absolute gem, but with some flaws. The rooms need major upgrades, starting with beds that felt as though they were 100 years old. Other than that everything else can be upgraded to modern furnishings. The pools were great, the entertainment was bleh, very cheesy and corny. The food got boring after a few days. The help, bar tenders, and servers are what make this resort. They treat you as if you were family and make sure you get exactly what you want by any means possible. The resort is HUGE and sometimes it can be a nice walk but mostly annoying since most parts you have to get on a little trolley to get to. I didn't like that the night club wasn't in the resort so you could come and go with no problems. What I absolutely loved the most was the little town about a miles walk away that was very quaint and relatively safe, my mother is from here and we all speak Spanish so it's easy to blend in and not attract too much attention. Over all this place has its pros and cons but I would come back this resort found a small place in my heart, and that's very hard.

I travel for a living, and stay at some of the nicest hotels in the country-This does not guarantee a good experience. I wanted a relaxed no hassle vacation and the Caribe Princess delivered. For the price, I did not expect a 5 diamond experience. People complaining on here obviously either don't travel much, or have paid much more for their other trips. The hotel is on one of the top 10 rated beaches in the world! That being said, all is outdoors, and this is still a 3rd world country. You cannot expect the standards of the US. I had a great time and was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff. My only suggestion would be that there be better direction regarding restaurant options, reservations and other amenities at check in. We were left on our own to figure this part out, and it can be confusing if you don't speak Spanish.

All in all a great value and terrific property.

Room Tip: We paid a little extra for Jr Suite and it was worth it. Ask for bldg. 2300

Overall my experience was good. The staff is great and they take care of you. Most of the staff speak English which is a plus! I had a superior room which was large in size and clean. The downside of the room was that I had no hot water in the shower for the first night. It was luke warm. The tv was an old box tv and a few of the channels came in fuzzy. Every nice hotel should have flat screens. The bed was a king size but too hard/firm for my liking along with flat and hard pillows. The beach is awesome and the water was fantastic! The bars are great and the waiters will go the extra mile if you tip! The food was not very good. Meat was tough and the buffet style food gets old quick. Sad to not even see Dominican dishes which should always be highlighted in my opinion. Lastly, the music played by the pool was too loud if you have a room close to it.

Room Tip: Choose a superior room that is not located next to the pool.
