Staying for two weeks. The buffet is very elaborate. A very large beach, and large hotel resort that has a wide variety of amenities. Service is great, the servers are very cheerful and happy to be here. Staff, and guest services is very helpful and willing to help with requests. Clean, and very throughral maid. Specific names include Caren from guest service and Daisy in the food services.

Grand Palladium Palace and Resort Casino

My brother, sister-in-law and I spent from Dec 14 - 21, 2014 in this attractive Punta Cana resort. GPC resort is one of three properties and allows guest access to all three properties. My brother booked from St Louis with Apple and I booked with Southwest Vacations from Midway in Chicago. We were both able to obtain non-stop flights. PC is in Atlantic time zone.

Our travel agent was able to secure adjoining rooms with an outer alcove door. One room featured two queen beds and the other a king. The room with the king bed located it in a loft which is a dozen stairs above the main room floor. If you are one of those folks who need to get up in the night, be aware that there is no bath/toilet in the loft area. If this is an issue you need to address it at reservation time.

This environmentally conscious facility minimizes wasting of water and energy with innovative features like dual flush toilets and room cards that need to be in a key slot to keep the ac and other electrical devices running. In Punta Cana, visitors do not drink the tap water. Plenty of bottled water along with beer, soft drinks and a coffee are restocked in the mini-fridge every day. This is not a problem if you pay attention the first few days.

The facility is very well maintained and kept scrupulously clean. The nice sand beach acquires a lot of seaweed and the staff does their best to rake and remove the seaweed every day. The staff is very warm and friendly. They are always willing to help but very limited English language skills can make this difficult. As an example the Mexican themed restaurant did not understand how to make a margarita. Drinks in the lobby are well made, the ones at the pools and beach not so much.

The total property features several restaurants offering a variety of cuisines. However, they generally do not take reservations. Sometimes lines and wait times can be very long. The buffet style facility is a good choice for breakfast. Quality of food in the restaurants can be quite good but the language skills of staff can make it difficult to make any food or drink requests. The restaurant protocols require that men wear long trousers or Bermuda shorts
.
Overall the facility, people, food and experience provide a very good value.

We tried two side excursions. The snorkeling and beach excursion was very nice and the staff was super friendly and energetic. We would not recommend the Hispaniola tour. Our Apple rep described the tour as 50 minutes away but it took our pickup bus 75 minutes to get us to the bus that took another 50 minutes. The tour itself was a hodgepodge of tourist trap stuff, some architecture and a nice boat cruise. Avoid the Hispaniola tour
.
The departure from Punta Cana was a bit of a mess due to crowding and a high level of activity. I had purchased an early boarding pass from Southwest but the local boarding managers were totally inept at executing it. Southwest needs to address this - possibly by initiating a seat-based boarding system in those airports that cannot execute the SW boarding protocols. I understand the problem but still feel a bit ripped off.

Bottom line is that Punta Cana vacations are very nice and a welcome respite from Midwestern winter.

Waited hours for ala carte reservations, they insisted on "upgrading" us to bavaro where we did not want to be , the wedding party we were with were all at the palace ( too far for my husband too walk back and forth all day)trolley was late or nonexistant. We spent our vacation in pain , exhausted and frustrated .We were often served the drinks we ordered as we were leaving the buffet.i bought my daughter a mani- pedi for 85 us dollars , they didnt even file her nails! A couple we were with had 1,000 dollars stolen from the locked safe.horrible language barrier when you have an issue ,so many smokers! No beach chairs available . Second rotten experience in punta cana .... We will not be back... Mexico for us!! I have little tolerance for whiners and hate reading negative reviews ... But this was just too much!

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Palace for 8 days last week and it was beautiful! The ocean is warm with great waves and the pools were very clean. Most of the staff are wonderful, especially William at the pool bar who is just a wonderful person and a fantastic employee. Lilliana and the entertainment staff, adore all of you and you're energy. The hardest working people are the buffet staff, bartenders, and maintenance/maids. A tip and a smile go a long way and they won't forget it! They are all so friendly and appreciate when you treat them like PEOPLE and not your servants for the well. A simple hola, good morning and a smile is a very simple way to show some gratitude. These people work 10+ hour days and make little money. So keep this in mind as we had the greatest treatment from those we showed some respect to.

The food: yes it can be repetitive in the buffet. But every morning there are fresh omelettes made in front of your or fried eggs, and fresh crepes and fruit. Cant go wrong.
A criticism I do have, PLEASE allow for reservations to be made at the a al carts. You can eat at all as many times as you like, but due to the size of the resort and tables inside, you spend most of the night waiting for your reservation and then your food. Though the bartenders ensure your glass is never empty while you wait.
Lunch: Fresh panini's were the way to go for my boyfriend and I because they were filling and the options were so fresh looking and it was made in front of you. There were lots of options however, but this looked close enough to what we eat at home and safe to avoid tummy troubles.
The Mexican restaurant: amazing. definitely would have gone more then once if it was not the last one we tried.
The steakhouse: was the most popular but I am not sure why. And the staff there were rude, slow, and barely spoke english and even when I spoke Spanish to them they seemed very disinterested, which was disappointing.
The Japanese: such a great evening! very entertaining and the food was delicious!
The Spanish: a lot of sea food and small portions.

Entertainment: During the day the team encourages you to participate in activities which my boyfriend and I did and this is how we met some people. They are a great staff. This disco was boring, this is NOT a party resort for singles if that is what you are looking for. The best night we had there was the beach party! It was so much fun I really wish they had done this a few nights in a row, as it brought a lot of people together and had such a great energy. We really enjoyed this more then anything.
Another suggestion would be to have more dancing lessons, as I heard from a lot of people they would have enjoyed this, and even some spanish lessons.

Our room was beautiful and cleaned very well each day. No complaints other then we had no clock and our MP3 player thing was not working, but we didn't try to get this fixed, we actually really enjoyed being disconnected all week. That being said, the lobby has free wifi which as a plus to send some emails home when needed.

The grounds are large, but we walked everywhere and enjoyed not being lazy. If transportation is needed however, the trollies to pick you up come every 5-10 minutes it seemed.

It was a beautiful vacation all in all, and I would return as a family should the opportunity come up.
Take everything you hear on here with a grain of salt. Its the Dominican Republic, which is not overly Americanized as Mexico is. I booked my trip using these reviews and when I got there, it made me upset what some people seemed to find as an issue.
