First of all let me say that if you travel to Punta Cana and need round-trip transfers from the airport, contact Mandy @ Conexion Tours. They were absolutely great! No worry about having transportation when you arrive. The driver is there with a sign that has your name so you're not wandering around trying to figure out where to go. Beware of the cabbies at the airport though, they will drive you crazy. I would highly suggest that you arrange transfers before your departure. We paid $80. for round trip transfers for 3.
Ok, so on to the resort-- Check in was quick and staff was very friendly but speak little English. The gardens are very nice and very well maintained. No air conditioning anywhere but in your room and the shops. Our room was in a good location (block 2) but really needed updating. It was clean though. The air conditioning barely cools but if you keep the ceiling fan going, it's ok. Bring your on washcloths as they do not have any. If you don't let the cleaning staff in to clean, you can forget getting any fresh towels. Bring all of your own toiletries. They provide a shampoo/conditioner combo and thats it. The shower had great water pressure.
Pool area is nice and very large but the bottom of the pool is cement and is in need of repairs. It was dirty at times, but served the purpose. Only drawback is that there is no swimup bar. You have to go the bar hut located near the pool area for drinks. The locals apparently are allowed to come in on the weekend and take over the pool. They were also very pushy and rude when trying to get drinks and food. Luckily they are only there on the weekend.
The buffet restaurants basically serve the same food everyday so it gets tiresome after a few days. It depends on your taste in food as to whether or not you like alot of the food. I'm not one that tries alot of different cuisines but there was something for everyone. At breakfast they have an omelette station which was good. Dinner, there was goat, squid and different types of fish. Nothing I would try. However, during the day there was a pizza station which was absolutely great! It also had hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries. The buffets were also available.
Twice a week they allow venders to set up on the walkways and they will drive you crazy. BEWARE== do not buy the coconut hats, bowls that is being made and sold because when you get to customs they go to trash. Beautiful artistic work but unfortunately you can't take them with you. Just take pictures. We didn't have any trouble with timeshare salespeople but with any of them if you just say no and keep going they will leave you alone. There is a market a short walk on the beach and it is worse there with the vendors. You can't even look without them trying to sell you sometthing. No cheap prices unless you waste ALOT of time haggling. Take plenty of small bills.
The beach was priceless. It was absolutely gorgeous!!! Many activities available on the beach. This was our first trip to Punta Cana and we will definitely return but will try a different resort. We really can't complain too much because we got a really good price for the resort.
