“Basics are covered”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

We stayed at this resort for 1 week in Nov 2012. This is a very basic 3 star resort. The food was good even the buffet every day had variety! The staff is very friendly and the rooms of building 4 are nice. Building 5 was closer to the beach but building 4 was definitly renovated. The room never got cold enough. It was like the A/C never went below 24 degrees. The beach here is amazing. white soft sand, drinks served on the beach with plenty of chairs around.

The language is definitly a barrier if you do not speak french or even spanish. ALL of the entertainment is in french, all of the staff speak it and 90% of the guests as well. The wi fi works only in the lobby so between 6pm and 8 pm the lobby is packed with no seats and very slow internet. It is not offered to have internet in your room even for a fee.

This resort and to be honest, the town of Bavaro was VERY VERY pushy! the sales people who want to sell you excusrions as well as the staff will line the edges of the walk ways and ask you day after day if you have had a tour of the Cayena side. They offer you a 'free dinner' in turn for you to sit through a time share presentation. Nice enough resort if time shares are your thing but it got really really annoying being asked every day on the way to breakfast to book or buy an excursion.

Theres a little shopping market close by 'Plaza of Punta Cana' the cab ride was i think 20$ or so each way and theres is just a lot of touristy things to buy, including rum and cigars. Definitly Negotiate. We were able to get things down by even 60% if you wait them out and ask them to do better. It was very very pushy even compared to say Mexico!

Over all if you get this resort for a cheap price and you are looking to relax on the beach its a great spot! If you speak french then its perfect! Just know that its a bit pushy and you will already know what to expect!!

Room Tip: Building 4 is new and has a fan right above the bed!

Just came back from holidays (Dec. 1/12) where I spent two weeks. The beach is fabulous and walking in the sand is like walking in flour. The beach was always kept clean and the water is soooo warm. I found the food wasn't too bad for an all-inclusive, except I was told to say away from the Italian diner as the food there wasn't that great, although I personally never tried it. The wine in Punta Cana is horrible and was glad to come home to real wine! My only complaint is that this hotel caters to the French speaking public and even though you tell the staff that you are English (for water sports, games, etc.) they continually speak in French and I felt like a second class citizen the whole entire trip and the French tourists were extremely rude, probably because they speak the language and get preferential treatment. Even when checking out, we weren't even asked whether we enjoyed our stay, or thanked us for coming, just was asked if I have the key. The staff need to be more professional in handling their clientele that have spent money to come there. Also, there is NOWHERE to go outside of the resort, except for a walk in the Beach as the nearest town of Bavero is quite seedy indeed. The excursions were a blast, but expensive. Won't go back to that hotel, but would like to come to Punta Cana again. Again, if you don't speak French (or Spanish), don't go there.

The first day there our beach towel ticket was stolen from our room. The next day we went on the beach, we were out of the room so the maid clean our room . We were gone for 2 hr when we returne my husben check his pant's and money was stolen from his pant's . He had left the key to the suitcase in his pocket. I check my suit case and found that our past port was missing and money was missing in my wallet that was locked in the suit case. I reported it and an investigation was made. I had checked both suit case infornt of them and my daughter checked them too. My daughters told the security gaurd to check the maid cart too.Two security gaurds came in and put their hands in the pocket of the suite case and pulled out our past port's and beach towel ticket. What a suprize in the pocket that me and my daughter had check . It was there ya. Well the money is gone but I got my past port back. Just guest if I didn't notice it untile the next day . Make sure you use a safe. We were going to change rooms that day that's why we didn't get one. Not even 24 hr being there this is what happen. We didn't feel safe here at all.

Dear guest,

We want to thank you for your preference in our VIK Hotel Arena Blanca for the enjoyment of your holidays.

We regret your experience in our hotel and this prevented you enjoy your vacations in our resort. To prevent this kind of negative situation, upon check in, we advice our guests to rent the safe deposit box and put all their valuable things inside, otherwise the hotel is not responsible of any missing in the room or in the public areas. In case that the guest make a report of missing in the room, we have a procedure to make, we go with the security supervisor, the guest service and the guest to the room and double check everything in the room searching for the alleged mislaid item; in your case, fortunately we did find the passports reported missing.

Sincerely,

I came to Punta Cana on this fab holiday from the 8th - 22nd October with my boyfriend and it was the best holiday ever! We booked it really early and it met all our expectations. Food was great the people work very hard there to provide good services. The only thing I would say is you are insulated in your hotel, but to be honest it is a beautiful place with lots going on, and you also have the choice to relax.

Met some lovely people and would be coming back. Great food and drink on tap with lovely weather and beaches, what more could you ask for?

Ignore other people's comments, you'll have a great time here just like we did.

We travelled with our parents Nov 3 - 17 2012 for two weeks. The resort was a four star hotel. We got two rooms in block 5 next to the beach. the rooms were comfortable and clean. The beach was lovely, white sand and nice waves. The food was excellent and had a good variety. The animation was excellent for the two weeks. Staff are friendly, polite and always ask you if there is anything else we need. I have been to Punta Cana Princess, Caribe Princess, Tropical Princess, Grand Bahia Principe and Barceloall nice hotel and I would also recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a great vacation. Special thanks to our maid Yanita, the animation staff and a special thank you to Edward Diaz for our request of rooms. Gracias to all

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to email the guest services of the hotel, block 5 is closest to the beach, but a...

first of all Punta Cana is in the middle of nowhere; closest town 1 hour with an expensive taxi. You are practically forced to live as a prisoner (yes an unremovable bracelet around your arm). You cannot receive or meet people coming from the outside. There are very few interesting tours. Everything extra is expensive, because there is no competition. The food is mediocre. The VIK hotel deserves less than 3 stars. You need in this 'desert' more services to survive, then they offer. I saw the huge Riu Palace nearby, 5 stars for not much more money. The VIK-personnel is kind. The beach is narrow and crowded (go to Brazil for beautiful beaches). For a vacation in teh Dominican Rep. Puerto Plata & Santo Domingo are better places to go.

Room Tip: in P. Cana take the largest resort with most services, otherwise go elsewhere. try (coming from Eur...

Spent 11 days at the Vic. We arrived and got a room in block 2. It was very musty and did not have the 2 double beds I requested. I was given a room in block 5 right by the beach. The room was very plain and the bathroom awkwardly small.
The food was good as was the service. The pool was a but outdated but clean and there were always lots of lounge chairs. The grounds were very clean and beautiful.
The entertainment was good. The best entertainer was Melanie who played with the kids. You could tell she loved her job. My kids really liked spending time with her. As for the rest of the entertainers? They had their favorite guests that they talked to. The shows were great! My kids loved the mini disco with Melanie.
Now for the down side. There was a group of French speaking guests and it appeared that everything revolved around them. They had their own entertainers called club lookè and they only spoke French. All activities were done in French as were some of the shows. Their kids entertainer only played with the French kids and when she ran the mini disco my kids did not understand anything as she spoke no English and during the games did everything so that her French girl would win. I felt like a second class guest as everything was catered to the French.
The best part was the close clean beach. It was great for the kids as well as adults. The pizza at the snack bar was also delicious.
