“Christmas Break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

Have just returned from 10 days Thomson tour to Sirenis Cocotal with wife son and his girlfriend. Excellent flight out on Dreamliner aircraft good transfers to resort. Had lovely relaxing stay, rooms could be abit more modern but no real complaints, all garden areas pool and beack kept really clean by an army of staff. We were at an advantage as have a good knowledge of Spanish, staff exceedingly friendly, small issue with leak in one room but resolved. Excellent one day sea tour fabulous outing. Food very good and enjoyed four of the speciality restaurants. Cannot understand why we British have to moan, at no times saw any drunkeness or bad behaviour. Would go back again no problem, keep most of the Brits away.

Room Tip: We had rooms near the pool area so short walk to beach.

Arrived on 13th december, Brand new road leading to hotel, xmas lights everywhere, looked great! We were greeted with a smile & a nice cold drink at reception. The reception staff were happy and processed the paperwork in no time. Our room was on the tropical side h103 &105.
We had upstairs rooms as i personally feel happier in a tropical country as the bugs have further to climb. Saying that we never saw any "nasties" in our block. Room was great. We had in each room, 2 double beds, large wardrobe complete with mini ironing board and iron, safe ($3.00 per night plus $50.00 deposit-refunded on checkout) flatscreen tv, air con & ceiling fan.. also we had a "living room" which consisted of, table, chairs, lounger , second tv,fridge and coffee percolator. Bathroom was spacious with plenty of towels and hairdrier. Yes there are rooms that need updating, you have to accept it in all large hotels, if you not happy with the room simply ask to be moved,we found everyone helpful and friendly, Grammy the thomson rep, well let's just say he's a true gentleman, goes well out of his way to help you a real pleasure to be with, i spent a few hours with him every day (my choice) he is sooo informative just keep telling him to smile!
The food as in all-inclusive restaurants repeats,i must say it's well cooked served hot and with plenty to choose from, you can always find something good to eat, We thought the food was better this time than last,
You are allowed 2 stays per week in the a la carte restaurants as part of the all inclusive, as we were return guests we were given extra a la carte meals. We ate at the steakhouse to which was of excellent quality highly recommend, the mexican was nice but not as spicy as i would have expected. the vegetarian-well i'm a meat eater so didn't really look forward to it, Boy was i wrong. we had a tall vegetable pie with brie sauce, it was to die for!!!!!! The italian i love italian food, my expectations were high , must be honest i was a little let down. Saved the best for last.
THE JADE,OMG-----Words fail me, it's asian (chinese) well they put on a show for you, not going to tell what they do as it will spoil it, just to say it was the only one we went to twice.
Yes timeshare or "holiday club" has hit this hotel, just tell them a polite NO about 3 or 4 times on your first day (yeah) if you are not interested, they will then leave you alone for the rest of your holiday.
Pools are massive, deep, shallow & even a whirlpool one behind the steakhouse, no problem with sunloungers as most people were on the beach..
They now have a new waterpark as part of the all inclusive, 'i'ts only a couple of minutes walk out of reception, they have speed slides tube slides pool , great fun, also is all inclusive, food drink even towels, don't forget your towel card.
Did 3 trips with Grammy, yes you can get them cheaper . it's just i prefer trips with a small group of people (thats what thomson do) so you can enjoy it better, we went to saona island, hey we were the only boat there, fabulous. also did swimmimg with dolphins, yes we got exactly what grammy said , absolutly awesome, also the zip line in the canopy---incredible.
In conclusion it's our second visit to this hotel. extremly friendly staff, great food, excellent rooms, lovely pools and a new waterpark.
Thank you Veronique for making this one of our best holidays.

Room Tip: Each have own reasons for high / low rooms, all i say is if your not happy tell the reception , they...

I was unfortunate enough to book 2 weeks stay in Sirenis Cocotal in December 2013. This hotel is certainly one of the worst three places I have ever stayed in and here is why:

1) Rooms are in abysmal condition. Antique, not working air condition, broken frige (mini bar), mould and rot in the bathroom. Rusty sharp spike instead of a handle (and they do not go very well with 3 years old)
2) 6 phone calls to the reception to get towels was a daily routine. Never managed to get 3 towels though.
3) Food - repetitive and boring ( with the exception of Japanese and Italian restaurant - those two are a must - especially Japanese)
4) Staff. I do not event know where to start- Rude and arrogant receptionst who on our arrival thrown a key card to is or rather arrogant bar tenders... I never imagined thay people living in Caribbean can be so unpleasant.
5) prepare for the 'fight for sunbed' fun.
6) intoxicated to the point of passing out Russians are everywhere.
7) tables in the main restaurant were difficult to get.

Good points:
8) water park is nice especially for kids
9) Japanese restaurant is a must if you end up in Sirenis. Chefs are amazing, happy, cheerful, funny and professional. Food to die for. Truly amazing
10) gardens are amazing, beautiful and very well looked after. Public areas are in stark contrast with the rooms as if those two were managed by two completely different managers.

Would I go there again? God no. Would I recommend it? Absolutely no. Do yourself a favour and avoid it all cost.

My wife and I spent 6 days at the resort from Dec 1 to Dec 6 2013. Overall we had a great time. The resort is clean and the staff works really hard to upkeep the place and cater to the guests. As stated in previous reviews, the resort was plumb filled with Russian guests and a speckle of other europeans and a hand full of Americans. As part of the great deal we received to stay at the resort, we attended the timeshare presentation. It was actually quite painless and not pushy at all. The room was a little dated in terms of the furniture, however it was very clean and tended to twice a day. We enjoyed the buffet restaurants as well as the a la carte restaurants with the Japanese being the best. There are plenty of bar around the resort willing to serve you the drink of your choice all day. My wife fell in love with Baileys on ice! The beach seem to always be crowded, there is literally no room to add additional beach chairs. The Aquagames park is the highlight of the resort...a definite must do while staying there. I definitely recommend giving the resort a shot if the price is right.

The hotel is very nice and the animation team very good. Food is good abit repetitive but by going to the ala carte restaurants you can get some variety. Being so close to the beach is great. Only annoying thing was paying for the safe which when staying for 3 weeks is abit of an expense. Go on some trips to see the island as the Dominican Republic is lovely as are the people and staff.

We visited the resort from 3/12 to 13/12. There was three of us aged between 28-33. Good points: 1. the resort grounds is very nice especially at night when all the Christmas lights were put up, 2. the staff are very pleasant and friendly, there is always adequate staffing around the resort at all times. Bad points (for improvement): 1. the resort has two sides which we did not know until we got there, Cocotal and Tropical, the rooms on the Cocotal side really let's the resort down, the rooms smell of damp, there's mould around the bathroom and the DIY work done to some of them are of a very poor quality, we took the sheets off our bed and the state of the mattress and base was cringing. Beware if you suffer from asthma or any skin condition. We had a room on this side of the hotel and this ruined the first three days of our holiday, although after complaining on several occasions we were given a room on the Tropical side which although are still basic but are pleasant which is nothing more or less than what you'd expect. 2. Too many persistent sales people and I got annoyed at how many times I had to say "no thank you". 3. The plug sockets often sparked. 4. Flies and birds on and around the food. 5. The music in the resort was often quite depressing, you need more uplifting music that doesn't put people to sleep. The resort felt like it catered more for their European clients rather than being a Carribean resort and just allowing the customers to embrace the culture. It was an experience I do not regret but I would not personally go back and if I were to recommend it I would say go with a very open mind and only if it's really cheap and for no more than 7 days.
