This is a great resort. Not luxury by any means, but perfectly comfortable. The amazing thing here are the beaches and the staff. Everyone was amazing, but special thanks to Joselin at the pool bar! Santo and the lobby bartenders were also excellent, but watch out for the Santo Special lol
My only complaint was of air con in the restaurants. They were too warm, but I mentioned the buffet manager and the next day it was noticeably cooler! while we were discussing the manager approached us and asked if the temperature was better!! Wow. 5* service all round!

I stayed at Occidental for 9 beautiful days. Staff upon arrival and departure were great. The room was modest but very clean. I did not see one bug, but there are mosquitos so bring your bug spray...you don't see them but they see you. The beach was private so not many locals outside of people selling you stuff in the Plaza and on he beach. There are shows every night after 9p.m. pizza and tacos every night until 6a.m. so come from Club Mangu and get your pizza at the plaza. When we arrived the lazy river was under construction but it reopened three days prior to our departure we were excited, Jacuzzi connects, wet bar awesome and plenty of space for you to kick back or meet plenty of people. Club Mangu was awesome with the right d.j.that night. The only issue I would have with the resort was during low season there wasn't much activities at night outside of the club and the Plaza if the entertainment was there. Overall I had a great time and intend to go back. I enjoyed meeting first club worker Carmen, beach bartender Jose and cook Abraham they were awesome, welcoming people that looked out. See you next year. P.S. make sure you bring plenty of singles, two and five dollar bills. Don't bother with the peso.

I am writing this review because my daughter was married at the property. I want to be sure to compliment the following front desk staff: Lenni Marcos, Guido, Dergi. These individuals demonstration a high level of professionalism each time I encountered them during my 5 day stay. They handled each issue with effective means. Thank you guys!!!!
The issues we had, all 80 of our guest, was with the security staff person. His badge read: Reyito. This security person was constantly rude, intrusive and disrespectful to our family members, guest and visitors. We were celebrating the marriage of our daughter Ketura Isidor to Daniel Dor on September 28th. Many of our family members and friends felt very "put off" by the behavior and attitude of Reyito. He needs training and direction from hotel management.

The food service staff was excellent. We were all very pleased with the food choices, service and hospitality shown to our 80 person wedding party.

I was at this hotel with Family from August 22-25 and what experienced in this place was the worst service aver.

-Room sense pure Cigars
-Lack of sign all over (my song go an accident just 10 minutes of arrival) none one was interested to assist and to just to see the inside Dr. the charge an average of US130.00 just to refer you to the clinic
-Food for people coming out of a jungle.
-Drinks quality none existent
-Service do not expect any unless you are a Vacation Club Member witch they identify with a different guest band color
-Dinner Reservation a Joke
-The Vacation Club agent will contact you as soon as you check in and try to sell you their package and offering you some assistance, but if you demonstrate that you are not interested forget... they wont do anything for you
My only advice is to make you aware of what to expect, but if you looking for a place with a least the basic customer service, this is not the place to be.

Room Tip: if you are smoker and don't min the horrible smoke sense any room will be fine

The beach and pools were great and well cared for.
Rooms comfortable.
Sadly the food,especially in the buffet could have been much better.
But we'd go there again.The AirTran flight from Memphis in the package was excellent.

The hotel is very nice, very tropical, you really feel in the islands. The decor was very rustic and opened. The room was very clean and the housekeeper very friendly! They lefy chocolates on the bed, which I thought was a great gesture. Sometimes they even came to clean twice a day to change our towels!
The gold carts were the transpotation and if you needed to go somewhere, since the hotel is a little big, you can call and they come pick you up, always with a smile. The food was good and the drinks too.
The service was great and the employees were all very friendly!
They have plenty of activities and things to do, and very relaxing
Can't complain!

We were in this hotel 7 year ago and although I travel a lot this is still in my mind as one of the best (all inclusive) I've ever been.
People from the hotel were there for us all the time, I would say they've made the difference. We became real close.
Although the hotel is quit old, the were renovating and renovated room were like new. They very clean and every single day there was fresh flowers from the garden.
Food was amazing, never in the Caribean I swo so big variaty of tropical fruits.
Hope it stays as it was when I was there. I will definitly go there again to check.
