My girlfriend and I stayed at the Riu Palace Bavaro - May 14th-20th and overall we had a good time. Keep in mind, we're in our early 20's and are not too picky when on vacations! Walking in the hotel the first time was very nice, it is very newly done and very open which i liked. At check in, there was a little mix up because they put us in a room with 2 twins beds and we wanted just 1 king bed but that was resolved pretty quickly. We were greeted with 2 cocktails at the lobby upon check in! The hotel staff is very nice, just beware a lot of them hardly speak any english! I was mostly communicating in spanglish and with my hands. The rooms are amazing at this place! Liquor dispensers, mini fridge re stocked daily, water bottles and a jet stream bath tub! We stayed in room #2135 which was towards the back of the hotel and our view out of our balcony was the street where all the vendors sell stuff. We werent too bothered by our view because we hardly spent any time in our rooms! The food was decent, they had a buffet style restaurant and 4 other fancy reservation restaurants which were nice. The food quality could of been way better but you're in a all inclusive resort where all the food is mass produced so what do you expect? The alcohol was what bothered me the most here, it was SO weak. All bottom shelf liquor and they always served shots to you WARM, unless you specified you wanted cold shots... All of their mixed drinks were pretty much sugar. You needed like 100 to even get tipsy. They had only 1 kind of light beer which was Presidente (5.0 ABV) The actual resort itself was very nice and well maintained. We always saw employees constantly sweeping, mopping, etc.. They kept it clean. At night, the main lobby bar had a main stage by it where they did live shows every night, kind of corny but you're on vacation who cares! The main pool was very large, there was pool volleyball games going on everyday which kept it fun. Right next to it there was another small pool that had a swim up bar which was awesome! The beach itself was nice expect for the seaweed that was everywhere!!! The sand on the beach could have been way more maintained, and cleaner then it was. My girlfriend and I developed a bad case of stomach issues and diarrhea the last half of our stay, probably due to the poor quality of the food and meat. But overall, it was a good stay, we had fun and got very tan!
P.S Definitely look into doing an excursion (Saona Island Catamaran) Super fun! Cheers
