My husband and I picked Excellence Punta Cana for my 30th birthday celebration. I had always wanted to go to the tropics and experience all the beauty of a Caribbean island. I'm SO glad we picked this as our destination, for many reasons!
When I was reading reviews before we left I was surprised by how much people wrote- now I understand why… There is so much to rave about!
My absolute favorite thing about our trip to Excellence Punta Cana was how joyful, friendly, and genuine the staff was! I was so happy to be greeted with a smiling face and cheerful voice each time I interacted with a staff member, even when I passed a staff member in the breezeways.
I also loved that we fully experienced the culture of the Dominican Republic right there on the resort! We planned to leave the resort for a day on a guided excursion, but once we got there and had so much fun, we changed our mind. The food, music, dancing, and wonderful people showed us the best of the country in our paradise resort setting. ☺ We figured we got a little view on our hour ride from and back to the airport.
Every night there is a live show and live music band, in the common area. My favorite activity every night was dancing to the live band- they play Bachata, Merengue, and a little Salsa. Kasandra and her 2 sidekicks ;) were so fun! Their job is to dance with guests- and teach them the steps.☺The best show was the circus show- It's like Cirque du Soleil! There’s even a casino and club, for those who want to keep partying. The only thing that I noticed that I didn’t like is the fact that people are allowed to smoke in the common areas. But, since it’s open air and there’s a magnificent ocean breeze it’s no big deal.
The daytime service was wonderful! It was awesome to not have to drag chairs, towels, or anything to eat or drink down to the beach (or pool). The beautiful, private beach is lined with plenty of umbrellas and chairs. As soon as you find your spot and get settled someone will bring you towel and someone else will ask you what you'd like to drink. Definitely try the Coco Loco, it's delicious! (It's coconut water, coconut cream, rum, and ice all blended together and poured back into a coconut. I drank them everyday on the beach. ☺ Same thing at the pool… There are three pools to choose from, the main pool is always hoppin’ with something fun going on- like Salsa lessons (on the deck), water aerobics, volleyball, or some sort of game. The pool closest to the main pool is relaxing and quiet, with a walk in grade at one end. And the cascade pool is on the other side of the property. Each pool adds to the beautiful view from an ocean front room.
All other service we had was awesome too. At the restaurants our servers were very knowledgeable about the menu and brought us any thing we asked for. My favorite restaurant was Chez Isabelle (the French restaurant). The food was lovely and the atmosphere was perfect. (I had the Salade Verte and the Quiche Lorraine.) My second favorite meals were the Dominican buffet (on Monday nights) and the Arabian buffet/night on the beach (we heard that was only once a month- if it’s when you’re there, don’t miss it)! ☺ The breakfast buffet at Toscana was awesome! There was a huge selection; including soft scrambled eggs, a different type of beans and plantains everyday, fresh made pancakes, French toast, and crepes, two omelet stations (if you want hard scrambled eggs or fried eggs, get them here), an entire toast-your-own-bread table, fresh squeezed juices, fresh cut fruit, and much more. You may enjoy the Dominican/Hispanic foods more if you do a little research before your trip, if you’re unfamiliar. I encountered some people that didn’t know what things were so they weren’t sure about trying them. I was happy to help and encourage them. ☺
Our room was cleaned each day and our bed was turned down each night, with delicious chocolates and a schedule of events for the next day.
For the great service we decided to tip a dollar or two each day; for the housekeepers, bartender, waitress, and servers.
One thing I would suggest is to bring flip flops with traction, if you have them. The pretty floor tiles in the breezeways are slippery when wet.
Also, the mattresses are hard, but you can ask for pillowtops.
I was so happy the whole time I was at Excellence Punta Cana! I definitely want to visit the other Excellence resorts in the future!
HAVE FUN! YOU’LL LOVE IT!
