My boyfriend and I were very skeptical about going to this resort because of all of the mixed reviews. Upon arriving, we met some friends who were staying on the Bavaro side, which we heard was better (through Trip Advisor) and we wanted to be transferred to this side. When we got to the hotel, my boyfriend went straight to the manager named Victor and told him that we were nervous about the hotel and we would like to see the different types of available rooms to upgrade or switch to the Bavaro side. Victor actually gave us a tour of the hotel and showed us all of the different types of rooms including VIP. Originally our room was supposed to be the older rooms (on the Punta Cana side). Honestly there really is no difference between these two sides except for the types of room that are available there. Our room was in Bloque 2 (Punta Cana side) which was newer.
We chose to stay in the superior room which had an ocean view. These rooms are the newest addition to the hotel and they were very nice and big! We bargained a price for the week and for an extra $275 we got the room. Victor is the nicest person on the resort. Every time we saw him, he would say hi and ask us how our room is. We even saw him in the buffet and he stopped eating to see how we were doing.
The maids are also very nice. They were always happy and always said hello to you in the hallways. Rosa Tavaris was our maid and she was nicest lady. She would talk to us every day and gave us anything we needed.
The food at this hotel is actually pretty decent. The Windows Buffet is pretty big and the staff are very nice and helpful. A big thanks to Wilson, Miguel, and Oliver who made sure our meals and drinks were great. We booked the Brazilian and Japanese restaurants and they were the best! The sushi is very good and so are the stir-frys, we actually ate there twice. The Brazilian restaurant has a little buffet and the waiters bring you fresh grilled meat to go along with your meal. I would highly recommend these two restaurants. Darling and Yojabel are awesome to talk to and they are very friendly and helpful in booking the a la cartes. We will miss talking to you every morning.
We found the beach a little disappointing. There is quite a bit of seaweed and lots of boats in the water, so we spent most of our time by the main pool. The beach is also full of people trying to sell you things like purses, parasailing etc...These people were also on the resort trying to sell time shares, they can get pretty annoying. The animacion team also kept us entertained with games and music. Pechuga, Akon, and Coca Cola are always making people laugh and they are great entertainers. The shows in the theatre were okay. We loved the Michael Jackson and the Stars shows the best.
We also booked a day trip to Saona Island. We paid about $80 each booking it with the people in the resort. Overall it was a great experience however it really dragged on. The tour started at 7am and ended at 6pm. We were told that we were going to spend 20mins with the star fish but in ‘Dominican Time’ it actually means about 45mins. We also waited on the catamaran for almost an hour before it took off to bring us back to the hotel. I feel like this tour could be a lot better if it were more organized and took less time.
Overall we made the best out of trip and we found the staff very friendly and helpful. We would definitely come back to the Dominican, but were not sure if we would return to this hotel. The only thing that would make us come back is to see the staff again who made our stay even better.
