Had a wonderful time at the Sunscape on my honeymoon! Lost my wedding band on the baech while playing volleyball. Staff and guests helped look for it for 2 hours to no avail. Said they would have staff out at 7 next morning. Sure enough I was there with them at 7 and they found my band! Food was excellent, room very clean. Only gripe alot of seaweed in ocean. Overall vacation a 9.5! Would stay here again!

A group of 14 Adults traveled to Punta Cana's Sunscape Grand on 9-8-03 to 9-12-03 for 5 days and 4 nites. I have never been to an "All inclusive" resort, but HAVE traveled to the caribbean 4 times. I enjoyed being able to swim up to the pool bar and Juan Cruz, the bartender at the "splash bar" was an EXCELLENT bartender. Drinks were great and had a high percentage of alcohol content. The "Presidente" beer got warm very quick so drink it fast!! The entertainment was okay---fun at first but I do agree with a previous writer....."Put your hands up in the air" phrase got REAL old from Antonio the activities director. I think this is the only line that he knew!! Pool games were fun---but don't let your drunk husband partake in the game of the " mens tri-athalon pool game"...saw a guy tumble on the bicycle into the pool and could have gotten hurt. And YES.....take immodium AD with you along with some nexium, zantac or pepcid....I think that at least 50% of our crew got GI upsets and spent most of the day on the toilet and in bed...take your own toilet paper too! :) As I sit here typing, I still have a gnawing feeling in my stomach....The english speaking workers are few and far between...don't even try to ask the maids, grounds keepers or the maintence men a word in english....they don't speak it!! I advise you to learn a little bit of spanish prior to going...it surely helps...All of the employees were very friendly, but could not understand you. Our room was clean, nothing got stolen, but did hear of others getting items stolen and of cock roaches on the sink counter....Use your room safe. We left the maid $3.00 everday and ALWAYS had an abundance of towels and a clean room.. Beware of the obnoxious beach vendors....have a couple of drinks proir to venturing down to negiotiate with them...they ARE hysterical to deal with...got to vendor #5...he has deals "better than WalMart"....only offer them 25% of what they first tell you....and if you don't get them down to that price....go to the next store---they are all listening to each other and the next guy will give you a better deal!! Mama-jana is their version of our Viagra.....they will try to get you to drink it, but the bottles are not sealed and neither is the vanilla...so I didn't buy any of them.. Heard the "safari trip" (recommended highly by Apple Vacation) was great----lots of items to buy CHEAP---cartons of Marlboros were only $8.00 and vanilla was $2.00 and they saw sugar cane and coffee plantations. Make sure you go to the "Apple Vacation" talks prior to signing up for any excursions.....Was made aware of the 4X4's and cycle and horse excursions to be dangerous....but ole "Pedro the horse Man" at the beach towel shack will try to talk you into it!!
BEWARE---if you are young, blonde and single....stay away from the "entertainment/activity crew"...they are on the prowl at all times......The food was good...not sure what made us sick---could not pin point it to any particular item...the Italian resturant was nice and had a great atmoshere...Windows ( Buffet ) was nice also...always something to find to eat.....and the Amercian grill/Tex Mex food was GREAT!!!! The bacon cheesburgers at lunch were out of this world....The beach was okay---warm and blue---but nothing like others that I have been to.....SEAWEED---SEAWEED---SEAWEED!! They did pitchfork it up occasionally...but it was still a nuisance!! Heard on the plane ride back that another couple at another resort had no seaweed !! That was disappointing!! Overall...would I go back to the same place????
Answer---NO!! Back to Punta Cana---Yes!! Was overall inexpensive and for a first time all inclusive...I got my money's worth!!

We had a wonderful time, March 2003.The food was great don't need to reserve for all the restaurants , friendly staff, 5 stars in Punta Cana is not the same as 5 star in the Maya Riviera, the room was ok but the party on the beach , kids were save, overall great peoples, excellent food and for the beach lots of seeweed they need to clean those but if you walk al little bit further it was ok. We had a good time!

We vacationed at Sunscape 8/20-25 with our 3 children (13,11,5). Overall, I have to go with a just average rating, but my review is really quite mixed:The Bad News: We were expecting beautiful clear Caribbean water and were surprised at the dull, seaweed-filled beachfront at the Sunscape---not at all as pictured in the brochure I had sent for!!!!Don't get me wrong---the water was quite swimable, and the beach/lounge area was fine and kept quite clean, but for us, we were expecting the "Caribbean" and what we got was a nice Atlantic Ocean area. (We DID venture out to a recommended area about 20 minutes from the resort one day, and got to see the pretty turquoise water we were missing).Other negatives: Our kids were very excited to try Sunscapes water-trampoline--but it was broken. The wonderful Beach Party Dinner many people have written about was canceled twice while we were there, supposedly due to weather (but both nights there was no weather issue). The nightly entertainment was amateurish at best. The "Teen Center" was nothing more than some worn-out ping-pong tables and a croquet set (in need of repair). Our room was adequate and clean, but pretty basic and in need of some repair. Hot water was available sporatically. We were kept awake one night by a wild, extremely loud party taking place at the adjacent bar (rumor was that it was the Sunscape Staff party). We were located in the quieter building 5 near the adult pool, but noted that had we been in just about any of the other buildings, we think noise would be a big factor. The resort is small, and although this makes everything convenient, it is, at times, confining and limited. The Good News: The staff at the Sunscape is outstanding. They do the most with what they have. Service was excellent. Food was quite good. The nightly 7:30 movies were a nice feature for the kids. The main pool area is nice---kept very clean, but it's showing its age. Because the resort is small, everything is just steps away: rooms, beach, pool, restaurants.OVERALL: This resort is only for you if your top priorities are value, convenience, good food, and great service. If you're looking for a more luxurious vacation, gorgeous Caribbean waters, and lots of variety--you'll need to make another choice.

The resort was perfect. I couldnt have asked for more. The staff were all plesant and wearing smiles. Of coarse the drinks were always made with little alcohol so always ask for double liquor. The food was only okay. There was a lot to choose from but it was very oily. Stick to the simple stuff. The beach had been kept up but always had a lot of seaweed on it. The water was nice but not as clear blue as the water in past vacations. Both our day trips were spectacular. We took the snorkling trip with the sharks and the jungle adventure. Great scenery.
I would recomend taking the trips to everyone. Our tour guides were funny and informing. Great all around vacation. Punta Cana is one of the most beautiful places.
