1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago NEW

My cousin and myself came here for all inclusive for four nights. First of all the travel company never told us that it takes 3 hours from Santo Domingo to Punta Cana and it cost 175.00 US. Dont forget you have to pay 10 entrance fee at the airport. Anyways, while our room was fine, the pool and the beach, some the staff could not speak English, the food was very salty, and the Mexican and Italian restaurant foods was also horrible. My skin broke out that looked like chicken pox, and they hurt so bad. Tried calling a doctor, and after the 20th time calling the doctor told me i would have to pay 950.00 U.S dollars just for a consultation. If you die there, that would be trouble. The other vacationers were not friendly either and lack manners. I would never waste my money again coming to DR.

The bad news...
We just returned from a 5 day stay at Vista Sol resort. I'm sad to say we spent the first 48 hours moving from room to room to room to room to room before we found a place with a working shower and air conditioning unit. And this was after we upgraded to their best room! And the best room was invested with ants. We had to purchase a can of insecticide from the store located on the premise to kill ants that had gotten into our luggage and were crawling around the coffee maker. It turned out they were living under the desk chair in the room.
And now the food - it was average at best. I'm still trying to figure out what meal has caused me to be seriously ill for the past three days. If my flight had been longer than 4 hours I would have been kicked off of the plane! They do offer you a few choices but the meats were greasy, the vegetables were questionabled, and the fruit was risky. That's probably were I made my mistake. Or maybe it was brushing my teeth without using the bottled water.
BY THE WAY - be prepared to tip everyone who crosses your path from the moment you step off of the plane. We had to tip three different people and pay a visitor tax before we could even leave the airport!
And one other thing - the drinks were so watered down I got craps in my arms from trying to catch a buzz! I haven't lifted this many times since my college days.
The good news - the workers are friendly but Their English is limited. If your Spanish is limited this could be an issue. Management was also friendly but they weren't really interested in resolving our room issues until we mentioned our problems to the VacationExpress representative. The best place to find a working a/c was in the internet room and the manager's office. It was at least 20 degrees cooler there compared to any of the rooms we had occupied during our stay.
The beaches and pools were excellent although it would have been nice if the pools stayed opened until at least 10:00pm.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 1st floor. We were told all of the 1st floor rooms were cooler ( but we found...

I have this place booked from Jan 1 to Jan 8 and they are non refundable.

Reading the reviews it looks like it is impossible to get edible food in this place or a room with a working AC and a bath room that does not leak and is clean.

I was expecting a basic resort and I know it is not a 5 star resort. I chose this resort as it is smaller then the brand name big box resort I was getting for about the same price.

Should have known some thing was up when they said it is non refundable. :(

I was skeptical about choosing this hotel because half of the reviews I read were good and the other half were bad. Our room was ready when we arrived; however, they put my party in 10...building. Those two rooms were FAR from everything and the view from my room was of torn down buildings and trash. I asked to move and we were put in rooms that were right next to the lobby and I had a view of the pool. My room was barely cool. We asked several times to have someone check the air conditioner and no one ever came. We went on a tour of the Lifestyles resort next door and was told that the owners bought Vista Sol and are in the process of renovations. That put everything into perspective. However, it would have been nice to have been told that beforehand. Apparently renovations are supposed to be finished (or beginning) in December 2014.

The television was VERY fuzzy on the English speaking channels. And our room was supposed to have queen sized beds. The bed I slept in was a full sized mattress and my god-daughter's bed was a twin sized mattress.

There were not many activities or at least I did not know the schedule of the activities. I did not see much going on the resort when I was not on an excursion that I planned for myself. I did see people throwing bean bags in a bucket and a basketball in a bucket (not my idea of entertaining). I was thoroughly disappointed about being told about dance lessons by the pool to show up and see that there were no lessons but people playing "bucket" ball. When I acquired about dance lessons, one of the activity persons showed me two dances and that was it. The shows in the theater were not my idea of shows. I expected to see dancing, acting, something that I could call a show. Instead, I got random people picked out of the audience to perform skits. I was looking forward to one show in particular "Dance Around the World" to only be disappointed that the actual show was a video of various dance videos, not an actual performance.

The food in the buffet style restaurant was very good. Some of the dishes were hit or miss but overall we were able to find something each time we ate at the restaurant that we enjoyed. The Mexican restaurant was very good and we all thoroughly enjoyed the French restaurant.

The beach was EXCELLENT.

Meeting Coca (sp?) made my trip worth it. He took our luggage to our room the first go around. But what made us smile was that EVERY time he saw us, he excitedly spoke and asked how we were doing. He made me feel like I was at home. I requested he retrieve my luggage when checking out but was sent another person because he was busy. But that didn't stop him from finding me to say hello. I tipped him just for his warm personality. Before leaving, he gave my sister, goddaughter and I each a hug. His hug was so warm and heartfelt that I almost cried (and I'm not an emotional person). I would definitely visit this resort again just to see him.

Anyone visiting this resort needs to keep in mind that it is a smaller resort in a "urban" area. I am curious how things work out after renovations.

Room Tip: While I did not go into one of these rooms, but apparently the rooms in the 5000 building had centra...

My boyfriend and I stayed there for 6 nights. We got there, our room was not ready, so they bumped us up to an ocean view superior room. It was nice. The beds weren't too comfortable, but the room was nice and cool. We had a nice little porch. It was perfect for two people. We had a couple of problems with the shower. However, I read reviews that people had gotten sick on the food. We never did, but needless to say, this food was absolutely terrible. The a la carte restaurants were slightly better. The mexican restaurant was very good, though. The beach was very relaxing and beautiful. The pools were very nice and warm! However, food was a big factor considering it's the only thing you will be eating all week. They had shows and discos, but unless you speak spanish, I would not attend them. We didn't. So, if you like sitting at a pool and beach all day every day for 6 days, then this is the place for you. If you are looking for a numerous amount of activities, I recommend going to another place. All in all...I probably would not come back. AND DO NOT DRINK THE WATER!!!! You will get sick. They provide you with two bottles complimentary, so make sure when brushing your teeth, you use the bottled water. Also. The beach is public. People will try to sell you things and scam you. Politely say "no thank you" and move along.

I read the reviews and I expected a discount experience. What a lovely surprise! The beach is beautiful, the people are friendly, and the resort is nice! Yes, the rooms are older and there are maintenance issues. However, a leaking a/c in our room was immediately repaired as soon as we brought it to management's attention. The deal we got was so incredible that I never would have expected to have a beachview room, our own private balcony, or decent food. Since I am from south Louisiana, I have learned to be tolerant of food when I am traveling ;) While the food at this resort really is not great, there is something to eat at every meal. I had the most trouble finding something good to eat at breakfast, but I truly loved the Mexican restaurant for dinner. This place is affordable and quite pretty. Don't let the bad reviews scare you away!

I took a group of 22 adults with 12 rooms to the Vista Sol July 28 for 6 days. I have been to Punta Cana before but several of the group had not. When you have that many people and that many rooms there seems to always be some one with a problem. A/C seemed to be one of the biggest problems. Most of the rooms would not get lower then 85 degrees any time. Even if you managed to get it down housekeeping would come in turn off the air, open all the doors a then then not turn it back on when they leave. Most of the front desk could speak no English and they were very hard to talk to. Only one girl Hawna could speak good English and really went out of her way to help our group. She even helped me book the group into all three of the al a cart restaurants which kept my people from standing in those long lines for reservations. The bar service was good over all. No one every complained about having trouble there. Don't waste your time going to the shows! Several in my group said they enjoyed the Disco late at night. The 9000 building is by far the newest and nicest but every one in that building had A/C problems. The 9000 building are all Jr. Suites with it's own private beach and small beach bar with a girl working just those guest. I don't know her name but she was very helpful to everyone. So I will close this out by saying we really enjoyed our stay at Vista Sol. The resort could work a little harder on a few thing but over all, for the money it was nice.

Room Tip: Up grade to the 9000 building if you can. Newer nicer rooms but it is a long walk from there to the...
