“Spectacular resort for families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

We stayed at The Reserve the week of April 13th for 1 week and this resort surpassed our high expectations. We travelled with a 5 and 2 year old.

Location:
The resort is about 20-30 minutes from the airport which is very convenient. Checkout was very easy. We are asked to sit down in the comfortable lobby and someone came over and took care of us. It is important to know that this resort is not directly on the beach, but is located further back of the main Palma Real resort. This was a non-issue for us. The resort had transportation in a golf cart from the main lobby or the building in which our room was located. My kids actually enjoyed riding the golf cart. Once I walked alone to the beach and it took about 7 minutes. Not a big deal at all, and we much preferred the quietness and upscale feeling of the reserve.

ROOM:
The rooms are incredible. We had a ground floor master suite with private garden. The room was in excess of 1000 sqft with a closed main bedroom. We had access to the garden from the bedroom and living room, so once the kids were asleep we could relax outside without waking them up. The garden is big with a dining area, a hot tub, two lying down chairs, and a hut with a bed. The rooms are modern, and very clean. There is wi-fi in the room although it can be a bit spotty.

Beach:
The beach is really nice. The sand is white and soft. The water is blue. Much nicer beaches than resorts in Mexico that I have been to. It never feels too crowded and they have plenty of chairs, and palapas.

Family Concierge:
We did not initially book this but chose to upgrade once we arrived. At first we were apprehensive, but we are very happy that we did it. Our concierge, Andy Constante, really made our vacation special. Family concierge guests have access to all of the restaurants and beaches. And Andy made sure we had our own Palapa on the beach every morning. No need to wake up early and play the towel game. Andy also took care of all of our dinner reservations, and if we wanted a change in reservations, he took care of it on the same day. We had a couple of issues with our room. When I mentioned it to Andy, he took care of it and solved the problem. With family concierge they give you a cell phone and you can contact the person assigned to you whenever you need. You really feel like you have someone taking care of you the whole time. Andy would also leave little surprises in the room while we were at dinner. The kids would be very excited to come back to the room to see what little treats he left for them. Andy really gave a superb level of service. I would definitely use the service again.

Kids Zone:
I have to mention the kids zone because it is amazing. They have something for kids of all ages. Rock Climbing, bungee jumping, playground, air hockey, ping pong, an indoor play area with all the toys you could imagine, board games, movies, video games, etc. The kids even have their own buffet right in the kids zone. They have a schedule of daily activities and the kids really love it there. The staff there Sahoni, Jendhaly, Natali, Ynes, Angel, Wanda, Nicaulys, and Edward are really good with the kids and you can tell they enjoy their job

Service:
Service was excellent throughout the resort, but a few individuals really made our stay amazing. They were always there with a warm smile for us and the kids, and went above and beyond to make sure we had whatever we needed. A special thank you to Hamlet Rosa, Darlin Ininia, Jairo Po-checo, and Maikel for their excellent service.

FOOD
Food is subjective so it is difficult to comment. Our favorite restaurants were right on the Reserve (Aqua better than along with Gabi Beach (included in Family Concierge). We tried Bana bistro and Vento at the main resort and did not find them to be very good. Service was great, we just did not enjoy the food.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor have swim out or private garden

This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic but it will definitely not be our last trip. Its amazing that we hit a home run on picking our place to stay. We spent seven days at this resort. From the time we got there until the time we left we were treated like royalty. When we first got here we were assigned a concierge by the the name of Gene Henry and I must say that he was a fantastic guy. He booked all of our restaurants for the entire week and took care of our reservations both at the pool and the beach huts.Anything that we wanted or needed he was there for us.He even came over and told us goodbye when we were leaving. All of the restaurants were top notch and the buffet bars were also great. If you go please try the the Argentine steak house and the Bana Sushi bar. Bavaro beach was fantastic! Beautiful water and powdery sand. If you get tired just climb into one of the beach huts and take a nap. There was so much to do there that we could not possibly do it all in the seven days we were there. When we go back we are going to stay fourteen days. If you want the experience of a lifetime you need to try the reserve at the Paradisus. You will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade and ask for a lower level room because there are no elevators.

We have travelled extensively as a family in Caribbean and this resort was by far and away the best overall. From check in to check out the service was impeccable.
We took a taxi from Punta Cana Airport for $30 for our family of 3, it was quick and we arrived at the resort around 2pm. They had a large corporate group check out and our room was not ready, typically a point of annoyance but the communication and lounge we waited in made the time fly until check in at 3:30. We reserved a standard suite and were asked if we wanted to upgrade upon check in. They gave us tours of the different type of suites and the family full in love with the 1 Bedroom Master Suite with Swim Up. It was a pricey upgrade ($1,500 for 9 days) but well worth it.
The Room:
-Mahogany furniture Table with 4 chairs with Marble floors
-Independent lounge are with sofa-bed where our 7 year slept
-Individually controlled air conditioning which worked well at keeping room cool
-Private terrace area with seating area, chairs, table on deck with step down to lounge chairs and private Bali Bed with step into pool.
-Hydromassage tub for two on the terrace
-Double wardrobe with lots of hangers and shelfs for clothes
-Two flat screen TVs with large assortment of channels
-CD Player and DVD player hooked up to living room TV
-Coffee machine
-Minibar restocked daily with Beer, Juice, Soda
-24 hour room service which was hit or miss of delivery from 5 minutes one day to 35 the next.
-Internet LAN connection for computers - no cable so bring one if wanting to connect (We also brought our own wireless network device and were able to use wifi in the room)
-Safe in closet for valuables large enough for everything we brought
Restaurants:
-There is a buffet restaurant, two a la carte restaurants, a snack bar in the Reserve in addition
-Mizu Show Teppanyaki - great food and show, lots of variety for everyone
-Aqua - Mediterranean Cuisine - great service and food here as well
Bars:
-Gabi Club in the main lobby area it is a club, bar and buffet restaurant - the buffet food was good but limited and had little variety - omelet bar was good and fast most days
- Bar H20 in the waiting area between the 2 a la carte restaurants
-Hydro Grill (snack grill in pool area with traditional hamburgers, chicken etc.)
Family Concierge:
Upon check in we were introduced to Noberto our family concierge who was attentive and handled all our restaurant bookings, have read a lot about difficulty booking but found this not an issue with him managing our dining in groups of 4 nights and 5 nights with us hitting most restaurants at Palma Real and the 2 at the Reserve.
There is also a pitch for a Vacation Club that takes about 90 minutes and was low pressure and friendly. For attending we received a return free week of hotel at the resort which we will use for sure.
Fitness & Spa:
Great work out room with attentive attendant Wendi who was always there with a towel and a bottle of water. Lots of treadmills, bikes and elliptical machines in addition to some weights and machines for a complete work out. My wife attended some classes and found them to be a great workout.
Great spa with reasonable rates and great facilities
Kids Club:
THe kids club was amazing, open from 10am to 7pm daily with loads of activities and options to keep your child entertained, staff was attentive and organized events. There were few kids in the club however so planned activities were not run. They serve lunch and snacks in the club and have a lot of games (Foosball, Air Hockey, Table Tennis, Xbox, Nintendo, Board Games etc)
There is also a small store in the club with everything you need and don't need.
Shuttle to Beach and Mall:
The hotel itself is not on the beach so a shuttle is required to go to the beach where a private area is set aside for Reserve guests. Lots of chairs and Bali Beds for all with drink service and a bar available for food.
The shuttle was typically reliable but slow at times, particularly when coming back from the beach. It was however a 5-10 minute walk to the room so not too bad.
The Palma Real mall in about a 10 minute walk and has many stores and restaurants available, everything was more pricey than US so we only bought what we forgot so to speak. Pharmacy was there as well for any medicinal needs.
Overall the resort was great and we will defiantly be back again, staff was great and we enjoyed the vacation and facility immensely. You cannot go wrong here.

We have been to Jamaica twice, Cancun, and Cozumel and this is our favorite. We had no bad experiences. We had no problems finding employees that spoke English. Furthermore, the Dominican is a Spanish speaking country and they get visitors from all over so to get angry because some don't speak fluent English is ridiculous. The food was great. Every employee greeted you and went out of thier way to be helpful. We will definitely return. Go visit Cristian Santana at the Aqua bar or Gabi Club bar and tell him Janna sent you. He is the best bartender and he makes an excellent sangria.

Wow, where to start? My wife and I came on our honeymoon in late April and we didn't know what to expect having never been to the D.R. before. When we first walked through the doors in The Reserve we were blown away by the elegance and beauty. We found out later in the week that the beach can get quite busy, but the gardens at The Reserve were always surprisingly quiet. The food all over the resort was incredible, we were not disappointed once- from the fancy sit downs to the afternoon buffet line. The attention to detail is wonderful, a truly magnificent, 5-star resort. If the resort wasn't already great enough, the staff went above and beyond. From room service to reception to the golf cart drivers to the beach bartenders. Example- Ramon Fuego, a beach bartender, knew we were honeymooning, learned my wife's favorite drink, and when he saw us coming down by the pool he would balance one on his head and run it over by us! Very cool! Everyone always had a smile. I travel for a living and have seen many wonderful places across the world, but this is easily the best. Truly recommended!!

The name says it all: a haven of comfort, luxury and splendid food (all things taken), in arguably one of the most splendid BEACHES on Earth. If you want to wake up in impeccable white linen, have a magnificent buffet breakfast and a-la-carte lunch/dinner, then jump to a recomforting jacuzzi after a day of *near perfection* beach ambiance, this is the place for you. And...if you want the ultimate treat...do head to the YHI SPA and ask for Hydrotherapy: Oh, yeaaah....heaven on earth. ps - lots of top-notch booze in all-inclusive packages, for the licquor enthusiast :)

We went to the Dominican with a bit of reserve as we were traveling with our 6 year old daughter. I was concerned about the food and water. There was no reason to be as the water was all bottled and the food was good and we had no health problems as a result.
Overall the resort was clean with beautiful flowers and trees. The pools were great and so was our room. It was a one bedroom suite with a separate area for our daughter to sleep as well as a big balcony. She loved having a bath in the big tub on the balcony.
The food was great at all the reserved restaurants for dinner but just average for breakfast and dinner. Thank you to D'alliance, our concierge, for arranging early reservations at each restaurant. We especially liked Pedro Paulino, our waiter, at Aqua restaurant and we were lucky enough to see him again at the Gabi restaurant for breakfast as well. He was so kind to us and our daughter.
The kids club was great - almost too great! Our daughter did not want to spend as much time with us as she did at the club. We want to thank Edward, Nicaulys, Wanda and especially, Angel for being so wonderful with her.

We would recommend this resort but would say that much of the service was inconsistent. Sometimes our room was cleaned in the morning, sometimes the afternoon, sometimes we got facecloths, sometimes we did not, sometimes there was ketchup at breakfast, sometimes not, the white wine was cold some of the time but not always. If you are not concerned about these details, then, overall, the staff is friendly, the resort is clean and beautiful and the food is very nice at dinner.
