This resort is Huge...Esmeralda is small but to get to an a la carte on another part of the resort compound takes about 20 to 30 min...quicker to walk than shuttle.
*I am not a fussy eater i promise!!! The food is sub par...for lunch go to the restaurant at the back pool not the beach grill..beach grill for a snack maybe...pizza sucked! hamburgers raw....breakfast is ok...hard to screw up eggs and bacon...again the restaurant by the back pool has better service and you can eat alfresco..which i like....for the a la cartes they suggest you reserve via email 2 weeks b/f you come to guarantee you can get a reservation...which we didnt do...but did get reservations the first morn there for the whole week ..not for where we wanted but that was ok.. first was italian...no taste ..just being honest..like i said i am not picky..next the dominican food restaurant...gross ..we left and went to buffet next door..not good either...oops....the next night was oriental...the buffet was good... w/ sushi, yum...the main , tuna, was not great and way way toooo much..3 big pieces of tuna ..what a sin..the men didnt even finish. there was a stir fry my husband had that was really good though. i would recommend that. The next night was the BBQ at the Ambar ..good meat..and at the end of buffet , you may not see it , is a guy bbqing what you want..we did not notice him til tooo late....but overall ok..lots of wine good service..but watch out the cock roaches are scampering ...the wine some how made that ok..hahaha....i was hungry! we also went to the don pablo gourmet restaurant our last night...yum..good wine good service..food was good. i had Chateaubriand which was not prepared at table but cut at the table...good though. the others had the fillet which was good as well.
*The rooms are nice, clean as the pictures show , no problem w/ service ...we called for more water b/f we went to dinner and was always there when we got back. Bar was stocked ..not over stocked but good enough for a drink b/f dinner or a beer.
*Beach was great ....long walks...as long as you want. We did get up early to get chairs where we wanted ..but people were never stuck to find a spot it seemed. The pool area is way way tooo hot..and tooo many kids, but the kids did enjoy it..for sure.
We have been to resorts w/ kids but this time it seemed like soooo many kids.
*Overall..of course we had a great time...did not starve , by far...did not go thirsty....by far..it is a really really big compound though 6000 people ..like a town!
*Make sure to try to confirm your dinner reservations via email...and note if you stay at the esmeralda you have access to all a la cartes ..so check all the other bahias attached to you. the gourmet restaurant for sure. We tipped $10 per couple there and $5 per couple at the other a la cartes.
*Staff was nice and helpful...they work hard so tip tip tip!! what's a dollar ??? they deserve it!!
the 90 block is the best...and if you dont get the 90 ...91,92, will work but ask for pool view..the...
