Just returned from 2 weeks Was expecting paradise as we had been to view it last year from the time share they do there so was really excited to have booked it.
Room superb had asked for a low floor in block 90 was right by pool and beach fantastic, had problem getting into room 3 days running and on one occassion was back and forth from reception 3 times and still was not able to get in room Went to Service desk where a very helpfull lady eventually sorted it out.

Fridge was not stocked daily with all drinks very hit and miss also toiletries were not always replaced either, some night no towel change i think miss communication is the reason. Loved room service no extra charge and a good selection Al acarte loved Don Pablo not easy to get to as my husband is disabled and although it is about a 10-15 minute walk that was not possible for us so a tip to the lobby boys and a lift in the trollies is given Bella Italia fantastic BBq avoid this one awlful I don not know why this is on the al acarte book as every one was complaining just like a cheap 3 star yuk !!!
Tried to eat at the Ambar one night only to be turned away was not happy as we were told that Esmeralda guest could use anywhere and as this is the priciest hotel on the complex did not understand the excuse we were given, I put a written complaint to the manager but no reply they had at that stage another 12 days to respond
Overall experience good, but for the money all was not perfect. Shows only 2 decent ones a week Michael Jackson and Circus, rest are just audience participation. I suggest they include more shows.
We come every year and the shows are the same need some new ones !!
We found most complainers were Canadians very loud and want everything first ......... Food in the Jasmine not as good quality as the Ambar where we stayed last year food there far superior.
Balcony was dirty never cleaned once in the 2 weeks just as well we was not using it one day room not even cleaned only bed made. Dont let this put you off going its a great place to stay

Room Tip: block 90 if you want to be right near beach

Regarding your comments about the restaurants, please let us inform you that every hotel has its own restaurant and for operational reasons the guests are to dine in the restaurants belonging to the hotel which they checked-in, however we would like to state that you could have definitely used our A la Carte Restaurants, including the A la Carte belonging to the Ambar Hotel, as well as all the facilities of the Bavaro Resort.

We would like to extend our most sincere apologies for any inconveniences or difficulties you may have experienced during your stay.

Our main goal strives in having a great ambiance to satisfy our guests' requirements; we regret to hear that your perception in this matter was not positive.

We stayed at this hotel from 20th Aug to 3rd Sept,we are a family of three (son 15).I am not going to go on and on about how great this hotel is,yes believe all the positives.We have been coming to the island for over 20years,plus other parts of the caribbean,Mexico,Barbados,Antigua etc. Wonderful staff (cannot do enough for you, so helpful),great rooms,we were in block 91,top floor,pool view (emailed 7 days before all requests were granted). We thought the food was exceptional in the buffet;our favourite restaurants were Le Gourmet and Bella Italia (ate at each twice-great red wine) plus we ate in the other themed restaurants which were also good. Nice quiet pool,plus adults only pool. We are beachy people and the beach is lovely,although a little busy for us,but it was the summer holidays so it is to be expected.
We loved the shows at night which finished at 11pm,we would then go on to the Don Pueblo Square where there was a show or band until midnight;then the Karaoke Bar or Disco till 3am (never lasted till 3am).
We had chocs on our pillows at night,one night we had lavender pillows (lovely).Big THANKYOU to Ramon Diaz one of the butlers,THANKYOU to Estaban on reception, THANKYOU Julio in the Jasmine Buffet,THANKYOU to all the staff, you all made our holiday a wonderful experience. Will we be returning guests? JUST TRY AND STOP US.

Room Tip: Blocks 90,91,92. Top Floor,Pool Facing have best views

My wife and I enjoyed this resort so much that we are going again! We are very fussy people since we live in a nice home already and enjoy amazing food everyday. This resort had everything going for it. We paid a couple of hundred dollars more to stay in it, but it was well worth it. The service was great, the food was delicious and the beach was amazing! Esmeralda ready or not hear we come again!!!! :)

One of the best accomodations we have stayed at, great service, very clean and freindly people, the rooms are spacious and clean, staff always going out there way to provide a good service.

Location was on the beach, or just a few steps, blocks 90 or 91 closest.

Restaurants are all of good quality including the buffet.
Room service if required.
Top shelf drinks and international brands available.

Only small issues if any was that the bars close a little early, and the same applied to the pool, I thought 6pm was just a little early, especialy after a very hot day.

All in all a top quality hotel, to which I would recommend to freinds and family,

Got back from Esmeralda yesterday and it was amazing! After reading some reviews I completely agree with the majority of them and I want to book again already! The people that have moaned about things like the weather, that's not the hotels fault so stop complaining. When entering Esmeralda we were given our welcome cocktails and asked to fill out our forms. Within 5 minutes we were being shown around our room. The rooms are massive and the pictures don't really do them justice. The room was so clean. We were located in block 90 and this is the closest to the beach. The beach is fantastic. Looks just like out of a travel brochure. It really is paradise. The pool is huge and we were in it everyday. We loved the food there, the Jasmin (buffet) was really good, all fresh food and I must say we loved it every time we went there thanks to Luis. We always sat in his section because he was just so lovely. He'd dance with you as you came in. Always hugged you when you left. He was gutted when we left :( hopefully if the managers see this they will give Luis a pay rise, he deserves it!! Nothing was too much for him. The A La Carte restaurants were fab! The Garden Grill was personally my favorite! The steaks were amazing and we did try to book in again before we came home but it was fully booked and we can understand why. We didnt venture out to the other hotels much as everything you wanted and needed were right there for you. Lydia in the Esmeralda lobby is such a fab lady. She's crazy! She ended up with a nickname of Crazy Lady from all of us. We never had to ask her for drinks as she always came up to us and knew what we would be drinking. She's so funny too, she would dance around while she was working and made all the others look bored! They should take a leaf out of her book! Betsy & Manolo were fab to us too! We did do a few trips, we went to the Manati Park to swim with the dolphins, best experience ever! Well worth the money. We also done the Adventure Buggies. It is a bit far away but the travelling is really worth it. They take to this lovely beach. Quite secluded but the water is breathtaking. You can walk out to the sea for ages and still be able to touch the floor. They then take you to a lagoon and its fantastic. It really refreshes you. Really worth taking this trip. With regards to tips back at the hotel, they do not expect anything! Don't listen to the other travellers. They are happy when you are happy. You tip if you feel like you want to. Overall this hotel is superb and we will deffo be booking again! Gutted to be home :(

Room Tip: Try to choose block 90 - 91 as we had friends stay in block 92 and they were facing the construction...

We were returning guests at this fantastic resort and I must say it was probably better then the first time! We were treated like royalty, the staff here goes out of their way to accommodate your every need! Remember people, they are human as well so be courteous and polite.. Just because your on vacation in a less fortunate country doesn't allow you to leave your manners at home and treat these people like slaves! They work longer hours then most of us do, in hard working condition and strict rules! The food here is great, might get repetitive if you stick to the same things but the choice is available! The rooms and beautiful, fridge stocked daily, very clean! We were in building 90, the construction never seemed to be a problem not even around the adult pool. The beach was fantastic no seaweed, it all depends on the week you go and the resort can't do much about mother natures decisions! A BIG thank you to Ramon, Julio, Luis (daddy yankee) Francois, mister, Nelson Raimona, Paula, and anyone else we forgot to mention! U made our stay memorable like the last! We miss it already! See you next year!

My family of 2 adults and 2 children ages 9&13 were at the BHP Esmeralda on August 10-17. I choose this resort based on reviews from other traveler's on this site. I always do very thorough research and asked many questions prior to our vacation.

We went with Air Canada Vacations on the early flight 6:50am, to our surprise no meals were served, you can buy sandwiches or breakfast sandwhich on flight.

Prior to our trip, I emailed the hotel 10 days ahead to request for room preference and ala cart meals. Most of my communications went to Ms. Albania Batista who followed through with her part by forwarding our requests to the appropriate parties.
From my research and reading on T.A, it seems that almost all the requests were followed through with for room request so I requested for a room on the 3rd floor of buildings 90 or 91 facing the pool as I have read that you can get wifi from balcony.

Upon arrival at the resort a big group of us were dropped off at the Bavaro lobby, not ther Esmeralda, I already knew this from reviews so we expected it but still there were much confusion by the staffs. Nobody knew what to do with us. After about a 1/2hour of sorting we were shuttle to the Esmeralda lobby for check in. A staff by the name of Estaban took over our group. He was friendly and gave us a short briefing about the resort then our rooms were assigned to us. We were starving from not having much to eat all morning, finally went to the room at 3pm. I was super excited as I expected to get a room with a view as I did all of my proper research, but it did not happen.
We were given a room on the 3rd floor in building 92 with a no views. The room was clean and beautiful but I was still disappointed so I called front desk and asked if I can speak to Ms. Batista, they transfer my call but I was not able to reach her. I called front desk back and was advised they cannot accommodate us with our request due to the hotel being at full capacity and being a family of 4 it is not possible. I told them I was willing to wait if there was a room available tomorrow but they said no.
After we had a bite to eat, I emailed Ms. Batista and she told me to call and speak with the front desk manager. I called but the front desk told me the manager was not there, not successful again. I resigned to just staying in the room assigned to us with disappointment.

We finally made our way to the pool that late afternoon. The pool which was very nice, large quiet and clean. We relaxed there for the remainder of the afternoon then headed back to shower and got ready for dinner.
We went to the buffet, We were greeted by 2 hostesses, Paula one of the hostess greeted us and was ready to show us to a table, but she got side tracked by another guest who arrived just after us and she just left our family standing around not knowing whether to just go find our own table or wait for her to bring us?? She proceeded to go and find a table for the other guest which I though was extremely rude, not at all a good first impression. Finally another waiter show us a table. So far not a happy camper on the first day.

My family travel once a year to all inclusive resorts so this is not our first experience. We have been to Mexico, Cuba, this is our 3rd time in the DR and we always look for quality resorts.

To be fair, over the course of the week everything went ok. Most of the staffs were cordial and friendly, our room was always clean and we always make it a point to tip at all of our meals and the maid everyday. Most staffs spoke ok English and if they don't speak so well, you can still get by with a smile.
We spent a few days at the other pools one day at the Punta Cana pool just for a few hours but we found it to be too busy and noisy with drunks. We liked the Bavaro pool which had a volley ball net as my daughter loves her sports.

The beach was nice some sections were busy but we always manage to find chairs with no problem. There were days when the seaweeds were more visible then others but I think it was due to the weather forecast, storms ect. our daughter enjoyed the beach volley ball and there were a few occasions we borrowed the water surfboards from the sports activities centre on the beach. My son liked the bungee trampoline on the beach which you have to pay $10 to enjoy 15mins.

Food was ok, We only went to one ala cart the Garden Grill which was nice, there is a buffet style appetizer table then main course is served.
At the buffets there were some variety to chose from for dinner buffet, however, I find the lunch buffet at the pool restaurant were always the same everyday. I guess we are a bit jaded because we have had so much experience with travelling all inclusive.

Overall, this is a nice resort but will we go back, perhaps........

Regarding the room assignation, our resort operates on a “run of the house” basis, which means that requests for a particular type of room or location are subject to availability and cannot be confirmed in advance, especially during the high occupancy season.
