My husband I joined Mike for his Munchies in Macao tour during our first anniversary trip to Punta Cana. I booked our trip by emailing Mike about 2 months prior to our trip. My husband was very skeptical before the tour, but ended up thoroughly enjoying the experience. Mike arrived at our hotel right one time as promised and picked us up in a small air-conditioned van with large windows and comfortable seats. When we got on the bus we drove to two more resorts to pick up the remaining guests for the tour before heading to our first stop, the school. Our tour was a total of 12 people so it was very small and intimate. During the day we visited a real Dominican school with the most adorable children, toured a chocolate factory, toured a cigar factory, played dominos with the locals and then headed to Macao beach for lunch and a chance to enjoy the beach. My favorite parts of the tour were definitely smoking cigars, playing dominos, the stunning Macao beach and the fresh lobster and shrimp we had for lunch. At the cigar factory they offer you free cigars to smoke while on the tour, so make sure you take advantage of it! Also, if given the chance, go play dominos with the locals. Macao beach is absolutely beautiful and you’ll want to spend as much time as you possibly can here, but we really enjoyed our experience playing dominos with the locals. Macao beach may be one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever seen with crystal clear waters, white sand and rock formations. We had lunch at the hut “restaurant” at the end of the beach and it was fabulous! At the restaurant we walked up and opened coolers that had fresh catches from the day in them and picked out our own lunch. My husband and I selected a 1.5 pound lobster and a half pound of shrimp to be grilled. It was peeled and cooked for us while we went for a swim in the ocean and walked around the beach. I would definitely suggest wearing under your clothes/bringing your swimsuit and a towel as you will want to get in the water at Macao beach. At the beach you can wade out a ways from the shore with it still being waist deep. We were also far enough at the end of the beach that nobody harassed us to purchase anything. Our lunch was served with fried plantations, rice and beans for only $28. After lunch we started the trip back to everyone’s resorts. I would highly recommend this tour! My husband and I both enjoyed that Mike was able to give us the real story about the Dominican life, history, the government, corruption, etc.
