“A Dream Fulfilled”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

I was fortunate to stay at the Dreams Palm Beach Resort in Punta Cana, DR with my two daughters (ages 23 & 19). Our stay lasted 5 nights during December 17-22 of last year.

Having stayed at other Dream Resorts, this place lived up to my expectations:
-Beautiful lobby area
-Large enough room with adequate air conditioning and complimentary safe
-Nice size pool with swim-up bar
-Beautiful beach
-Fun activities during the day
-Nightly entertainment
-Five A La Carte Restaurants-no reservations needed (loved the Himitsu, food very tasty)

The "Big Plus" for us was the entertainment staff. I must give kudos to the following workers:
"Superman" aka Junior, Sander, and Woody. They made our stay so much more like family visiting family. They were just sensational as were the other workers.

Wish we were there with those guys right now, so much fun!!!

I am writing this review from a holiday back in June 2013, as I never got a chance to do it when we got back. Dreams Palm beach is a superb hotel, the rooms are; spacious, clean and well decorated. The grounds are well kept and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was very welcoming. The value for money was great and all of the food was excellent. I particularly liked the wide choice of restaurants, the Seaside Grill being my personal favourite. I did object to what I thought was an 'overly strict' dress code for some of the restaurants (men, bring a pair of trousers) but the food more than compensated for this. The staff were on the whole great, (a special mention to Bryan, the beach waiter), although a few members of staff were occasionally slightly 'unfriendly' I felt, however this could be due to us getting treated slightly worse due to being much younger that a majority of other people there. The Dominican Republic is a great place and I highly recommend a visit, and to go on some excursions, the 'Outback Safari' was incredibly good. Although quite a few of them were very expensive. The beach parasailing was also very good (but haggle the price down and you'll get it much cheaper)

Overall we had a great vacation and I would highly recommend it to people of all ages.
(and don't be put off by other bad reviews, a few complain about a 'damp' smell, but we did not experience this once in 2 weeks, so I wouldn't worry.)

We arrived at the resort on Xmas eve 2013, what a resort to wake up to on Xmas day! We stayed for 7 days and this is paradise all the staff were great and friendly a special mention to Esebio who really looked after us. My favourite restaurant was the himitsu and the kids enjoyed watching the chefs cooking at the table.
A mention to the GM who I had the pleasure in talking to during our visit and what a great resort he runs and so approachable.
Would highly recommend this resort as known by our family as paradise!!!

We had a really nice time at this property - here are the highs and lows:

Highs: close to the airport, 15 mins away max.
Staff was amazing!!!
Food was very good (much better than NOW Larimer).
Beach was gorgeous with plenty of seats.
Grounds and pools were perfectly kept.
Photography desk was a GREAT feature (we had the most beautiful engagement photos taken for a good deal!)

Lows:
Rooms really need updated. Everything seemed to be chipped, rusted or leaky...
Lunch food at the beach was just "ok", they should have more options other than just burgers & dogs.
Pools should be heated, we couldn't get in them because the air was warmer than the pool. Ocean was warmer than pools...

We were 20 strong from Dec 27th - January 2nd. Age 12-70 celebrating the New Year and my mother's 70th Bday. Lets start from the beginning:
The pickup from the airport was very good. We knew exactly where to go and the bus was air-conditioned (delta vacations was the tour). The ride to the resort was uneventful and not far from the airport (approx 15-20 minutes). When you arrive, first impressions were varied from our group- "looks nice", "not bad", "look how pretty".

Checking in 20 people (4 families) was no easy task and they seemed a little overwhelmed. It wasn't the greatest check in process and I think we were all a little worried that the rest of the vacation would be the same. It wasn't!

The Rooms
Very clean, bed was comfortable, fridge restocked every day, safe for valuables, bathroom was also clean and the typical soap, body gel and shampoo supplied- also toothpaste which you don't see much. No conditioner (my wife chimed in). Room was a very good size. Our view was not good- backside of Building 6, nothing to write home about but we were never in our room and don't care much about that. Ocean view would have been nice but again, for the hour or 2 a day-not a big deal.

The Beach
First let's talk about the people:
Rafael, Julio and of course the Candy Man! Rafael was our beach server and did a great job. Julio was the beach manager and was very attentive to our group- From taking care of my wife's gluten allergy, getting us some water bottles without asking and always saying hello with a smile. The Candy Man was an instant family member. He gravitated over to our group and welcomed us to the resort with open arms and a ton of energy! He does an awesome job for the resort and should be commended. His daughter joined him (BTW, nice of management to allow) for New Year's Eve and it was a great touch!

Beach is clean, chairs were just fine, we always had a place (caveat, we had a family member get down to the beach at 7:30am). There are vendors all over the beach from coconut, hair braiders, cigars, sunglasses, excursion sellers, etc. They truly don't bother you if you don't pay attention. Remember this phrase: Looky Looky, Cheapy Cheapy- you'll understand if you go :)

One more huge thank you to The Candy Man who went above and beyond for me- he went (during his sleep break) to buy me 2 bottles of Don Julio so I can enjoy higher end tequila on my trip- (I guess they understand I buy, you fly in the Dominican). He always says, "whatever you need"- he means it!

Food
I hate comparing all inclusive to high end hotels so I will just say this- We ate a ton and everyone kept saying, "I still haven't had a bad meal" or "I loved my dish". This is from a grandma living in FLA, a few LI families and one from NJ- We know how to complain if warranted and sometimes not so much ;). Milan stepped up and made sure we had reservations for ALL 20 every night and his supporting cast of managers were awesome. I am so sorry I can't remember all he names but i think it was Emmanuel, Manuel, Eduardo. Great job across the board. There was always something to eat! Kabob cart, beach grill, buffet, etc. Drinks were good- we did our fair share- only strike (not their fault) was the icy drinks weren't really icy by the time they get to the beach. The liquor was not of high quality but was still good enough.

The restaurants were very good- Hibachi, Italian, French, Mexican we hit them all and the buffet the other nights we were there. The buffet has plenty of selections and food was very good- Hibachi was just as good as the states- talented cooks, everyone got involved with the "show" and the addition of fish was unexpected. Italian, nicely decorated- food was also very good- we tried pretty much every app and entree - ALSO, every night we bought bottles of wine- your voucher will get you $10 off per bottle - make sure you read the fine print :). French and Mexican restaurants were also very nice and the food was up to par with the others. No bad review on any of them! Service across the board at this resort was top notch.

Activities/Entertainment
We had to eat late (8:30/9pm) so we did miss the majority of the entertainment- not fair to judge. The New Year's Eve party was great and the fireworks were Really unexpected and awesome! During the day, there were activities on the beach- but since we were there to "shut down the engines" we were left to lay around. Beach volleyball was always going on and some of the games were great to play in and even watch. We loved the Big Mable- you sit 4 people in a big float that is pulled by a motor boat as it whips you around the water- the banana boat was good but once Big Mable was tried, the banana boat was forgotten about. There is parasailing and no one had a chance to go- it looked safe and fun as the driver dips you in the water and then lets you sail over the beachfront before he takes you over the water again.

One excursion not to miss: The sting ray, tiger shark snorkeling excursion. The kids and adults all had a GREAT time.

Casino
Nice to have. Very small. One of the "new dealers" was horrible and needs tons of training. Next time it shouldn't be "on the job training". He tried to take our money on a 21. He wanted to stick on a soft 14 and hit someone who said stay on a hard 17!! Good thing she won!

Coco Cafe
Was a HUGE hit! Our family went to town on this place- open early 6:30am, closed late 10:30pm. The pastries were great, drinks were good and before we went to the rooms to get ready for dinner many of us went back for tea/coffee/snack. It really was great to have!

I think you get a good sense of the place now.. I do recommend Dreams Palm Beach- they will not disappoint you unless you are "one of those" :)

Enjoy!

Room Tip: We had 9 rooms- one had a slight air conditioner issue- the rest were COLD! If view is important, m...

We returned to Dreams Palm Beach after a week vacation here last year (2012) around this same time (week before Christmas). We had a fantastic time again, and many of the same faces from last year's staff were around to make our stay another great experience. Manuel and Perfecto at the Italian and French restaurants made us feel at home (again!!), and Angel at the Mexican restaurant was great, too. Another great repeat performance was delivered by the ladies at the Explorer's Club - Ysabella and Awilda remembered our son immediately, and they were sad to see him leave (he was pretty sad, too). Jose' at the Preferred Pool was once again the man when it came to keeping our drinks refreshed, and when he was off-shift, the Pool Concierge, Germain, was great in his place.

This time around we had a butler, which actually meant we had three gentlemen who catered to our needs 24 hours a day. Wilson, Jose' and Alexander did a great job of satisfying any request, and just as importantly, they always seemed to be around when you needed them and their friendliness was so genuine and greatly appreciated. The ladies in the Preferred Lounge were great, too, and I would be remiss if I did not also thank Tito, one of the server Captains in the Sea Side Grill, for his great service, pleasant smile, and soothing songs. Finally, two of the hostesses at the World Café, Lily and Flor Maria were so nice, recognizing us and especially our son, every day at breakfast.....and then again at night at the Italian and French restaurants. My favorite picture from the trip is our 10-year old son posed between the two of them on our last day.

We will absolutely go back again. This was our fourth trip to a Dreams resort (the other 2 were in Mexico), and the combination of Dreams and the Dominican hospitality were amazing again.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, the Preferred Club rooms and associated upgrade in onsite benefits is really w...

Just returned home and am raving about how well run this property operates. From Milan the 2nd in charge guy to Raphael (a server on the beach), and everyone else who (works) there, Its apparent they love what they do. Tough to call it work when you love what you do.Each staff member seemed to enjoy what they do and it shows. Entertainer Candyman has the looks and personality of a superstar, and is simply a pleasure to be around. In the restaurants, where each meal is better than the next, Jose, Manuel and Julio smile and handle each and every request with style and grace. We had no trouble getting exactly what we asked for regardless of how busy they were. We had a large family and they treated us excellent.
The food was plentiful, the buffet was good, the restaurants were great. The beach was well maintained, the drinks were ok, nothing special but thats nitpicking.. The rooms were clean, maid service timely, room service was FAST. The ac unit in our room was cold, and I liked it, The shows were all entertaing and the staff again was super. The casino was small.
After staying for a week, they know you by name and know what you like and really make you feel like a welcomed guest.. All in all it was a excellent vacation and we highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a friendly all inclusive resort. Happy New Year !
