“Great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

Great hotel, clean, service was excellent, food was good. The beach was absolutely stunning!!!!!
Also very important is that the general manager Mr. Dejan and Mr. Juan Luis are doing amazing job, they are always with or around the guests, I liked that. Keep doing excellent job.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. I am a very picky person so this one was really good place to stay and fully enjoy vacation with my family.
Thank you for everything guys, see you soon.

i was delighted to be able to visit this stunning resort this past christmas vacation. My mother and I travel to a tropical location every year around the same time and Iberostar played host to our very first endeavor to the Dominican Republic. I can honestly say that the experience was an absolute delight.

Starting from our check-in process, until we left the resort 8 days later, we were treated to a clean, well staffed, and cared for resort. The grounds were absolute delights, and the entertainment staff kept us entertained throughout the day and every evening. The food at all the restaurants (even the buffet) was fantastic. We were especially taken with the resorts desert selection as it provided a perfect end to our meal each night.

I highly suggest this resort to anyone looking to recuperate from the stresses of the "real world" at home. The crystal clear waters of the beach, the relaxing poolside cabanas, and a hospitable staff made this one of my favorite vacation destinations.

This past Christmas was our family's fourth year in a row at this resort. We travel with another family. both families were disappointed this year as we noticed a marked decline in the service adn upkeep. The beach is still terrific, pool and grounds (landscaping) are kept very well. Restaurants have always been mediocre at best, but the menu items have not changed AT ALL in the four years we have been going, and believe me, they did not reach perfection. Food at the buffet restaurants are plentiful, but you tire of the repetition quickly. However, this year, much of the food was terribly oversalted to the point that it was not edible. Everything was oversalted, the meats, the vegetables - someone must have been giving instructions, "when in doubt, add more salt".

The big buffet dinners at New Years Eve and Christmas Eve are a logistical nightmare. Too crowded. they book two sittings, when they should really just spread people out in 30 moinute reservations to help manage the flow and line ups.

The general areas are not being maintained well. For example, we noticed several of the toilet seats form the washrooms near the restaurants to be missing. We pointed this out to the front desk several times - these toilet stalls were missing the toilet seats for days, and they said they would send a maid. We repeated, it didn't need cleaning, it needed a new toilet seat - it had none! Obviously, the maids, who attend to these washrooms very regularly, are instructed to just do their jobs and not look for anything else that may need attention. The toilet seats were not replaced until we saw a guest take a broken toilet seat lid which was left behind in the washroom to the front desk to present it to them.

Air conditioning in the guest rooms is inconsistent. It seems to work in some rooms, and not in others.

Positive comment: After four years of asking, we were pleased to see that the television in the so called Sports Bar was finally able to show some of the NFL games live (in the past, even though we are there during playoffs, the satelite sports package that the resort carried replays of old European football (soccer) games and news of the NFL games, but no coverage of the NFL games. This year, perhaps in response to the many complaints, they finally purchased one of the ESPN channels so at least some games were available.

The checkout time took way too long as it was 12:00 noon (checkout time) and there was a long line of people waiting to check out while only one staff member was there to process the guests checkout. Many other front desk personnel were in the area, but no one was there to "re-assign" them during this peak time.
I don't think they fully get what "customer service" means, nor do they appreciate the level of competition in the area. They are too quick to say "No" when asked, or , they tell us if we have concerns that we should write to the resort head office.

The nightly shows are definitely worth skipping. These shows have been bad each of the last four years, but we don't go for the shows. This year, they were even worse - just simply unbearable. (the so called silent comedy, which we wished was truly silent, was a prime example). lt is interesting to see how many people in the bar/lounge area during the shows are not even facing the direction of the stage - that's how bad the shows are. The performers are talented, but they lack direction, choreography, scripts, and the acoustics/amplification systems are awful, as the performers just yell into the microphones. They would be much better off to just have some nice live carribean jazz playing nightly. At least they finally stopped doing the poolside Hollywood show that they used to do - that was so bad! The programming staff that harass you on the beach can be a real pain.

Security is interesting. We noticed more security at night this year, around the bars. That's fine, we assume they may need it from time to time. HOwever, what was interesting is that they seem to have a lack of people with first aid training. Each year we have seen people slip and fall in the poolside buffet area - the floor is slick and often made worse with people dripping water from their bathing suits. I have seen people on the floor, with other resort guests rushing to their aid, then asking staff if they can get a towel, or some ice.... the staff look like "deer in the headlights" and have no training as to what to do. Contrast this to a small incident I noticed in the food line when two guests were arguing over the last piece of meat at the buffet (ok, seriously folks, you are on vacation, can one of you not wait for more - but that's anothe story), the funny part was that staff seemed to converge on these two guests like bees to honey, even the lifeguard form the beach showed up to see what he could do to diffuse the situation, the guests were separated and interviewed, security was everywhere.. but where we they the day before when the woman fell or collapsed and was lying on the floor right in front of the salad bar?

The beach and general grounds remain the highlight (including the palapas, and of course, Manuel who delivers drinks to you on the beach - he is a real star!), but next year, we will be booking elsewhere as we were disappointed to see how much of the level of service had dropped.

The resort is beautiful and constantly being cleaned and maintained. The beach is endless, gorgeous with white sand that is being cleaned from seaweed every morning. Chaise loungers in the sun or shade are always available. It is a true all inclusive- everything is in abundance and constantly replenished throughout the resort. The service everywhere is fast, and everybody is very nice and polite. And the entertaining team was working 24/7 and was doing a great job with lots of activities, parties and shows. Also, they have a great kids area in the pool that is good for kids from as little as 2, with slides and water fountains, as well as a shallow water pool. Also, we didn't get to use the kids club because we were simply happy with having our 2.5 yr old with us but it seemed very nice, as well. The tennis courts are great: they provide everything (good quality), plus you can sign up to find partners or take lessons. The spa was ok, nothing spectacular. The so-called " beauty parlor" was awful, though, so don't plan on having decent mani/pedi or hairdo done while you are there. The room quality is just OK, not really reaching a 4 star, more like 3. Some things didn't work right away (like fridge and room key), but were fixed in no time. The food is good, although there is not much difference between the restaurants where you need reservations and the buffet. Overall, we have spent wonderful time in the resort, and would go back there again.

Upon insistence of my wife, we took kids to a winter vacation at Iberostar. While the quality of the food (not the drinks, sic) remains high, and it's hard to complain about powder beaches in Dominican, this particular hotel did not impress me much. Firstly, the room you see in pictures does not suit properly for the family of four. So if you are contemplating to book two rooms to accommodate your family, then I suggest you look elsewhere. This property looks refurbished. We lost power twice during our stay during the evening hours, because generators could not kept up with demand of the beachgoers.

First, a lot of people are saying that the beach and staff are staff are wonderful and I couldn't agree more. However, I've been to 4 other resorts on Punta Cana and I can say that about every one of them!! If you like beaches, Punta Cana is definitely one of the top ones! The grounds here are beautiful as well, like with every resort I've stayed at. What disappointed me about this place, was that for the extra $500 we shelled out, the food was NO better than at lesser resorts. The specialty restaurants were good, so we knew they COULD do better, but the buffet was not very good. People some times confuse quantity and quality, there was a lot of food, but fruits (which should be a mainstay at a tropical resorts) were poorly prepared (papaya served with seeds), green (barely pink watermelon). Do NOT eat a peak times, we found the restaurant by the beach could not keep up, and usually only 50% of the buffet was stocked during peak times. Platters and trays were frequently empty during peak times, and service was not working on serving but clearing tables to keep people moving in and out. We spent a lot less at the Occidental last year, and the food was actually better. Room wasn't as nice though. Our room lacked air conditioning for three nights (each day we called and they said it was "fixed") we insisted on changing rooms after the attempted repairs, and that was a major disaster. We were told no problem at 10 in the morning, then when 5 rolled around, no one knew what was going on, we were told to stay in our current room...we had to get "insistent" that we move, because we had had enough at the attempts to fix the air. It took another two hours for it to happen, and we had to wait in our room for them to call - coundn't go anywhere. The second room was better. All in all...I'd say other places on Punta Cana offer the same thing for a lot less money. The food overall in the DR sucks, and they need to get in some decent chefs from Mexico. Eat at the French place for the best meal, other specialty ones were also good. On the up side, I really liked the suites and the staff made frequent rounds on the beach and pool for drinks - I was impressed with that. Like I said, I paid $500 more to "upgrade" to this hotel, and in my mind it wasn't worth the price. You can get a room that isn't quite as nice and the same lousy buffet at any of the resorts, save $500 and put that towards another vacation!! It wasn't a bad resort by any means, but I have to say for the money, I expected more. Either pay $1000 more and get a real upgrade, or save your money, because the other resorts are about the same.

Room Tip: Rooms near the beach can't keep up with the air conditioning plus they're really used a lot...

We just returned from a ten night stay. The rooms are more spacious than a hotel room, with adequate bath, shower and toilet space, roomy closet, bedroom with king bed, with step down to lounging area, and then outside to a patio. The grounds are beautiful, captivating and kept immaculately. The staff throughout are as friendly as can be. The nightly entertainment is a mix. We've stayed here five times, with the last previous being in Dec. 2008. I think some of the better entertainment has been shifted over to the next door Iberostar Grand Bavaro, but don't know this for sure. Most of the shows are pleasing, and the dancers and bands are excellent. By all means take in meals at the specialty restaurants - the food is great. The food in the main buffet dining area is adequate, but certainy not as pleasing. The whole place is run efficiently and with courteousness.
