“Recommended for babies and their parents!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2011

My wife and 13 month old daughter spent 11 nights and 12 days at CM Punta Cana our first time at a club med resort. It was also our first ever family holiday, flying from London Gatwick on BA on a day flight which lasted 12 hours - so quite a challenge as complete newbies to travelling with a baby.

The resort is large and spacious, even when full during half term week, there seemed to be plenty of room and staff to cope. The resort is geared toward families with children so don't go for a quiet romantic break, but do go if you want first class organised peace of mind for your child.

We put our daughter in the baby club most days and she was very well cared for, with many carers and great facilities for keeping the children entertained and safe. You dont have to use the baby club and it does cost extra at the time of booking (about 40UKP per day) but it was well worth it in our view. We still had so much quality time together in the mornings afternoons and evenings. We have never seen our daughter so alive and brimming with smiles, laughter and trying new things. Her development certainly accelerated! There were some tears the first few days but nothing more than you would expect and by the end she seemed sad to be leaving...

Mealtimes are a focal point and the 2 main restaurants deliver a vast array of food 3 times a day. There is a baby corner in each, stocked with food, chairs, milk, blender, plastic plates and staff to help. It was a great opportunity to experiment with new foods for daughter too and make as much mess as we liked -thanks to the club med staff for clearing up ;-) The food on offer for adults was also very good, you can request to see where all the food is sourced and its great to see so much is local (and fresh).

Theres a range of pools for kids so you can safely take a baby into one of these-do take a baby float if you have one as it gives you more options in the pools. The gardens are beautifully landscaped and the accommodation (Club room) was thankfully ground floor. The rooms are smallish, but fine with one baby. The room divides and there is a graco cot provided. We all slept soundly.
Some of the rooms features are not very safe for young babies: the floor when wet in the shower room was very slippy, so not easy to bath or carry a baby. Non slip mats would be useful. The bath provided for babies was slippy too so you need two people holding and helping at ALL times! You also would not want a newly walking toddler in the room as the floors are tiled and the furniture not child friendly.

The staff were a mix of Local, french, North American, Asian and European. We found it refreshing that club med supports diversity and although some of the staff struggle with English, theres enough that do speak English that we never felt it was a problem. I would recommend to those that want to try it, a little Spanish will go a long long way to making your stay more enjoyable and enlightening.

Interesting observation about the French: the Club Med French staff were always very courteous and helpful, but the French tourists could be very rude, arrogant and selfish! Its easy to spot and avoid them as they smoke next to their kids, they don't say please or thank you and push in front of you at any opportunity. It sounds like a cliché but sadly it was true for about 50% of the French we encountered. Don't let that put you off though, we just laughed at how nothing changes..! ( Not doubt they think the English have bad teeth and have no taste in wine, women, cars or music.)

Back to the holiday: The beach car is a great hangout during the day, the watersports looked difficult but thrilling. The beach is sandy and safe. The sun chairs go fast! And by the end of the day you'll sleep well in your comfortable air conditioned rooms.

Beware the price of baby supplies in the resort shop, it really was a joke. 15 US dollars for a pack of 72 wipes! - (so take too may as I had to pay!) It was my fault though, as I told my wife to not take to much stuff in our suitcases!

I think we will be returning in the next couple of years as this really was a wonderful holiday. Club Med really know how to make a holiday with kids work for everyone!

We were at Club Med Punta Cana the week of 2/5 - 2/12 with 2 children (4,1) for the 3rd year in a row. It was very reassuring that the kids were in amazing care at the Mini Club so my wife and I could get some much needed relaxation. The facilities are great, the staff (especially the mini club) are terrific and the food is fine. I read some of the other reviews and some of the complaints and I offer the following:

The staff does not speak english: they know it well enough for basic commands like ordering a drink. You are in a foreign country at a French owned club, what do you expect, everyone should know English? A little international diversity is not a bad thing.

The food is not so great: Yes, its not 5 star food, but you are not paying 5 star prices, get over it. If you don't like the local fare, they have plenty of french fries, pizza and hot dogs for those with narrow palates.

The rooms are far from the central areas: In some cases, yes, but the little amount of time you spend in your room, it does not really matter. A healthy walk could be a good thing (and you can get strollers for your kids to push anyway).

This was THE vacation. We had it planned for over 2 months and it was more then we could ask for. My husband, myself and 2 children 31/2 years old daughter and 18 month old son. The mini club was incredible. The GO to child ratio was better then what you see in some daycares in Canada. The kids wanted to go every day.
We both had time for ourselves. My husband played volleyball every morning and I relaxed with a book on the beach without having to chase 2 little ones. We can't wait to return. The accomodations were perfect the kid friendliness was perfect everything you need is there for you. Play pen, bottle warmer, stroller, infant bath. Was so convenient.
Food was incredible buffet options were never ending. WHITE CHOCOLATE BREAD there was nothing to complain about. Five minute transfer from airport. Check in was easy and private. The beach was the most beautiful totally private location I have ever been too. Also the language barriers were not a problem. Some of my conversations included spanish, french and english. My children came home multilingual. Never had any problems or concerns. My youngest Hunter found a buddy he had to be with Obed in the baby club. As long as he was there my lttle one was happy. The GO's are amazing, keep up the good work. With in 24 hours we knew we were coming back. :)

Had a great 5 night stay. Our 13 year old was very happy with the Teen Club and its "camp counselors", but she speaks French. However, other families with kids told us that language was not a problem.

Only complaint was that the $51/week WiFi didn't work in our room or in common areas 98% of the time. Only once did we find one of the two PCs (out of 6) which actually connected to the internet available So don't plan on staying in touch with your office or even being able to check e-mails daily.

Thanks to JuJu, TomTom and the couscous team, our 4 year old daughter had her best ever vacation. She played, she made new friends, she learned new things. Juju and the team are just fantastic with the kids - and the logistics and security behind every activity are flawless.

We returned from our first visit to Club Med last night. We met friends who went to this resort last year and liked it so well they were happy to go back. Oh yeah - and none of us have kids. Even though this resort is geared for families, at no time did the children we encountered bother us in the least. It was actually funny to see the GO's going all out to entertain them and make them laugh. Every day we either participated in one of the many fitness classes held at the beachfront palapa, played tennis, swam, kayaked, sailed or went on excursions outside of the resort. Generally we spent our time on the beach farther away from the pool and it was quite relaxing and much less crowded. When the water is such an amazing aquamarine color and clear, we actually prefer it to the pool.

Our rooms were very clean and maybe the decor was minimal but considering you are only spending time there sleeping and showering does it really matter? My husband and I appreciate the "less is more" style, anyway. I was impressed that the housekeeper mopped everyday we were there and that the beachfront bar was swept as frequently as it was. Everyone talks about the GOs in the reviews but often fails to mention how warm the service staff is, as well.

Having been to only one other all-inclusive resort in the past my husband and I were very leery of having only 2 restaurants in which to dine (let's not forget the beachfront bar that serves up a tasty fish filet, as well). We were very pleasantly surprised with the tremendous variety of foods, as well as the quality. Sure there those things that each of us found to be less enjoyable than others, but after each meal we all were quite satisfied and happy with the selections. Club Med definitely changed our opinion of the all-inclusive resort. I also worry about travelling to any country where water potability is an issue for fear of tummy upset but quite literally we all ate everything offered - from salads, fish, fruit, and even food offered outside the resort on the excursions. None of became ill, not even the least little bit.

We did the swim with dolphins excursion and the cultural excursion, and enjoyed them both. It was nice to take time off the resort and actually learn something about the country, which is always good to do when visiting a new land.

I would not hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone and would definitely return.

We just returned from a fabulous family vacation to Club Med in Punta Cana (Feb 12-18th, 2011). It was our first Club Med all-inclusive type of resort, and it was awesome. The beaches were beautiful, white sand, turquoise water, great snorkeling, large property to explore. But the absolutely best part about this Club Med are the relationships each family member develops with the GO's (Gentle Organizers) that occur during a week stay. The mini club for the kids was fabulous. We have never dropped our kids off before at a kids club while on vacation. Our kids (ages 6,5,& 5, yes twins) always preferred to stay with us. But here, after the first day, the kids stayed 4 days straight for about 6 hours a day at the kids club. They have 3 activitities each hour of the day for the kids to choose from. The GO's were all fabulous. They were so professional, organized, and caring with the kids. And, there were a lot of kids the week we were there, I heard double the amount from the week before, like 700 kids. But, it did not feel like it was too many. The mini club kids show on Thursday night was the absolute highlight. For JuJu, Louik, and their team to put out so much effort, truly 200 percent, to put together such an amazing show with so many kids was just incredible to witness. All the GO's were amazing, our kids especially loved, Ellie boom boom, Jessica, Samantha, Jo Jo French Fry,Ju Ju, and Louik, just to mention a few. We have never been on a vacation where my husband and could happily spend some time together snorkeling, exercising, eating lunch by ourselves knowing our kids were happy doing their own things, puppet theatre, trapeze, swimming, playground, yoga, tennis etc. We checked on them often and they would just wave back happily.

The trapeze team was also incredible, Henry, Manny, Gilson, Elyse, Elisa, all wonderfully, funny, caring, encouraging, patient, etc. My husband loved the challenge of tackling the trapeze. Where else can you do this type of activity while on vacation? This team also put on a wonderful shows at night. The hours in any given day that the GO's put in each day to ensure the guests had a great time was just wonderful.

The rooms were good enough, the beds comfortable, the food overall was good. Eating a buffet style meal every meal, makes it important to stay active during the rest of your day. We did not have a problem withe French speaking GO's, most of them knew 2-3other languages. My kids got by just fine. The week we were there, there were 60 percent French guests and 40 percent American guests, a good ratio.

Unless you get out of the resort on an excursion though you probably don't get a Dominican Republic experience. We took a taxi and took a half day tour to Higuey a nearby town. Not totally necessary but we felt we had to do it since we went so far to go see a little of Dominican Republic.

All in all, Club Med in Punta Cana is an awesome family vacation. One I would recommend, if you can, go now before this wonderful team of GO's changes. JuJu, Ellie boom boom, Louik, Jessica, Henry, thank you for making our trip so incredible.
