“A very good Club Med experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

We are back from another amazing two weeks in Club Med Punta Cana.
The G.O’s (Gentils Organiser = Club Med staff) were all so friendly!
Same goes for the G.E.’s (Gentils Employees = House keeping, gardeners and security guards) and all the restoration staff. They happily take a few minutes to answer a question, strike a conversation and even give us a chance to practice our Spanish.
For us the mix of languages, French, English and Spanish, was a great plus. It added an international dimension to our holidays.
We didn’t care much for the Invited Artist who played the guitar and sang American song at the bar before supper. He was very good, but we didn’t come to the Dominican Republic to listen to North American English musique; we would have very much preferred some local Latino talents.
Yes, some buildings are older but they are very clean and well maintained (We didn’t spend much time in our room anyways!).
The beach is one of the best; very private, large enough and secure. I saw many fish every days snorkeling just off the main beach.
The food: as usual you can’t please everyone all the time but you would be hard pressed to be disappointed. There is such a variety of meat, fish, veggie, cheese, desert, fruits… All very good and well presented.
It would be nice for the restaurant staff to actively identify people who want to seat a a communal table with other people. Eating alone is not pleasant.
What makes Club Med special is the mind set of the G.O’s and most G.M’s (Gentils Members = us, clients). The G.O’s will easily strike a conversation and most G.M.’s are also ready for interaction. If you do not appreciate this type of camaraderie you can keep your distance, and no one will challenge you. The beach after the sailing shack is very quiet. There is plenty of space and shade on the beach or on the grass.
The kids are there but they are busy doing their own things. Not much of a problem for the adults.
I would like to mention so many of the G.O’s who made a difference; just to name a few:
Kary, Marielle and Roody at the Public Relation desk: very friendly and always ready to help.
Leonel and Fatima at the boutique.
Joan, the very friendly Beach Boy.
Folka and Mercedes (from the kid’s club)
Noel, Richard and Sam (from the bar team)
Kim, Deneen, Eden, Victor, Radhames, Ramos.
Annick, one of the nurse with a singing voice like you would not believe!
Edouardo (Chief of Village / Manager / Director) and Alex (Chief of sports).
It’s not fair to stop here but the list could go on an on…
Thank you all, merci, muchas gracias a todos.

We just returned from our yearly family vacation, six adults and six kids aged from 13 to seven.

The food was plentiful and a very good selection for any palate.

The children had a great time and four of them did the trapeze twice a day, every day. We have great pictures.

There is some room for improvement. The nightly entertainment for adults is lacking and the principal language spoken in all events is French with a poor English condensed version.
Stay away from the extras. Very expensive and not worth it.

Would I return? Yes, but I would request a ground floor room. I have severe difficulty with stairs and they put me two floors up with no elevator.

Room Tip: If you travel with several families like we did, 2, 4, and 6 you might end up in three different bui...

Compared to some of the other resort we saw in Punta Cana, the Club Med is superbly located. You can have privacy and never feel in one of these monster resorts where you have to queue or fight for space.

Our three children had a great time and never got bored!

Food is excellent and varied.

The whole resort is superbly maintained and the rooms are kept very clean.

You cannot go wrong with choosing this destination if this is for a family holiday.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

Before booking Club Med for our vacation for the first time, I did some research. We were looking for a resort that didn't have to look fancy, but had good kid club, a lot of activities, good food and friendly environment. Club Med seemed to fit the criteria well. We have been to a lot of all inclusive family resorts like Beaches, Breezes, Coconut Bay (St Lucia)... and after reading a lot of reviews here, I kind of knew what to expect and that we were going to have a good vacation. But Club Med still managed to give us several pleasant surprises.
First, what is setting Club Med apart from all of other resorts I visited is the Kid/Tween/Teen Clubs. Club Med has an advantage over other resorts in the fact that most guests book the resort for their kids to participate in the activities. There were a lot of participation. For each age group, there were at least 15 kids at all times, which allowed them to break into 2, 3 groups doing different activities so your kids could choose which activities to participate in. The program for a full day started at 8:45 AM to 5:30 PM and then from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. They took the kids to lunch and dinner (one hour each). The rest were activities every hour (your kids could choose between activities offered for that hour). Activities were: Trapeze/Circus, Archery, Kayak, Catamaran, Beach Volley, Water Polo, Pool game, Tennis, Basket ball game, Big game, Beach game, show rehearsal, Art & Craft. At anytime you could sign your kids in or out (for teens and tweens they could join and leave Passworld anytime without parent signing in and out). The activities always started on time and as scheduled (except when it rains I guess). There were plenty of GOs to look after the kids (2, 3 GOs for each group) and they are well trained, dynamic people.
Second, when I booked with Club Med I was a little concerned about there were only 2 restaurants and they are all buffet. But I was really wrong. We enjoyed the food here best among the resort we have been. Maybe it was just a matter of taste. We love fish and fresh fruits and there were plenty of them at all meals at both restaurants (at least five or six fish dishes at every meal). Hispaniola food was a little bit better prepared I think than at Savanna. They usually had different themes at each of the restaurants each day and they were posted for the whole week in front of each restaurant. At Savanna, the middle section usually had Dominican foods and had a lot of delicious fish/seafood dishes. There were also several "Chefs specialties" corner, where the chefs prepared one or two plates at a time with all decorations like a-la-carte dishes for you to pick up. The escargots were 10 times better than the one I tried at Turks and Caicos Beaches. Sushi was the only disappointment we had about food. The fruits were cut fresh and at breakfast they had fresh-squeezed orange juice. The only thing is that they didn't have a variety of fruits but they were plenty and I wished they would have fruit smoothies at breakfast. When you ordered wine, they gave you the whole bottle, or you could get it yourself from the chillers. There were always a big variety of breads (and the famous chocolate breads) and pastries for desserts.
The pool was just average, bigger than it looked on the photos , but the beach was charming with the coconut trees, clear blue water and very fine sand. The tide was calm as well, good for little kids and for water sport beginners. I read it that the area where Club Med was located, it was the nicest beach in Punta Cana. My wife was kind of put off by the sea grass but they were only in patches and did not make the water dirty.
The room was ok. I like the layout, with the kids in their own room and they have their own separate beds - perfect for family of 4 but could be a problem for 2 singles sharing the room. Wifi was very good from the room. My kids were able to Skype video chat with their cousin for almost an hour. But prepare to pay cash for the wifi service at check-out as it was handled by a 3rd party.
My wife loved the activities all day long starting with power walk, then Zumba, stretching, abs & glutes, pilates, aqua fitness.....Service at the bars and restaurants were good. The GO and the restaurant chefs were the heart and soul of the resort. We also loved the photo service and did a private family session.
We did not have trouble with upset stomach at all. After reading review here and on other resort session, we didn't drink tap water ( in the pot at dinner table ). We even used bottled water provided in the room ( and they were plenty ) to brush our teeth. But after seeing people drinking tap water, we went ahead and drink it too. The food (salad & fresh fruits ) always looked and tasted very fresh and clean, so we weren't worried.
The dress code color were not participated by everyone and I didn't see any family invite GOs to share table with them anymore. The kid shows ( at 8:30 ) were kind of cheesy but the shows at 10:30 are really good (including the Teen and the Kid Club shows).
The resort were large so it could be quite a walk if you are at the far end (behind Tiara 5 section), we loved walking so it was not a problem for us, but sometime we wished it could be a little closer (when it was hot or when my younger daughter felt sleep).
About the language, Club Med was a French club so they speak French first, then the local language (Spanish), then English. So that is understandable. But all GOs can communicate in English very well. Depending on the week you are there (European break/holiday/vacation) the amount of English speaking guests will vary. The week we were there, in my daughter's Passworld club there were only 2 French speaking girls and they spoke fluently English as well.
In short, if we decide to go back to a resort, Punta Cana will be on the top of my list.

This was a large Club Med. Not as much personality as Cancun. Food was not as good as Cancun especially the breakfasts and the some of the staff esp the bar staff not quite as friendly. Ended up getting quite sick after our stay. Children's programs always very good.

Room Tip: Make sure not to stay too close to the main building as it's loud at night.

I admit, I’m a Club Med Junkie, so I knew what to expect when going to Club Med Punta Cana. Other reviews will complain about basic rooms, etc. Those folks don’t realize that Club Med is like camp for adults! The room is not an issue for me and shouldn’t be an issue for anyone going to Club Med. That’s because all you do in your room is shower and sleep --- nothing else! The beauty of Club Med is the activities, the people you meet and breathtaking vista from every part of the village. And when it comes to Punta Cana, I DO mean – village. It is a large club, which lies along a long stretch of beautiful beachfront near Julio Iglesias’ house and very convenient to the Punta Cana airport. It is a family-friendly resort and has family suites at one end while at the other end, more traditional Club Med rooms. So, if you want to avoid the kiddies, ask for a room near the trapeze and spa and you will not have to wander through walkways with strollers, etc.

The center of the village is the pool and open bar area. The bar is a beautiful place to sit down, relax, get out of the sun and have a beverage of your choice. The bartenders are more than happy to chat with you if you wish, or they’ll give a drink and let you sink into one of the comfy couches nearby. The pool has lots of places to sit, but most families get those places early in the morning so they can have a shady spot to hang out all day. Don’t worry about that. They are many more chairs, and places for shade and sun on the beach --- plus, on the beach you get that beautiful breeze which keeps you cool all day. There are multiple beaches to choose from, but if you want action, the one closest to the pool offers access to the pool, to the beach bar and to general beach party activities throughout your stay. That’s where I set up shop for the week. Right by the leaning palm tree that everyone takes a picture by  This area is also the location for the exercise palapa, so you can easily slip in for a class, or just watch. I watched a lot, but only did one Zumba class – which was fantastic. Thanks Kim, for reminding me why I feel in love with Zumba in 2010 at Sandpiper --- you are the reason! If you sit in this area of the beach, you’ll have plenty of sun and shade, too, if you want it.

My activities at Club Med are always scheduled around trapeze. The Punta Cana trapeze team was fantastic. I happened to arrive the week the old Circus chief, Chad Majors, was leaving, along with his Circus wife, Stacy, so the team was quite large and included the new Circus chief, MadMax, along with Kim, Carmen, Camille, Dylan, Ramier, and Atilla. What a great bunch of people to go ‘fly” with. Regardless of who was pulling lines, on the board, or catching, you felt safe and secure at the trapeze. This is a great feeling when you are trying new things, or watching a small kid climb up the ladder. Circus GO’s are fun and crazy, but they are first and foremost, looking after the safety of all the guests – at all times. Their Fly show on Thursday and indoor circus show on Friday gave them a chance to show off their skills and inspire the rest of us to keep trying  Be sure to catch both of those shows when you are there! You won’t regret it.

During the week, I also had a chance to hang out with some of the front desk folks who were always willing to answer questions and to entertain us in the shows at night – a special thanks to Javier for ALL the entertainment he provided all week. I think he was in almost every show! Of course, I made a few trips to the bar and was happy to chat with Carlos, Noel and Shahara who always made me feel comfortable, even if I was alone. Also Edny from the land sports team was always around to say hello and to do a little dancing when the time came. Overall, the GO team at Punta Cana, led by Eduardo, the Chief de Village, was great fun. I hope to see each of them again at another Club. GO’s are the heart and soul of Club Med and these guys lived up to my expectations.

The food was great! I had fresh fish for most meals since it was always available in some new recipe, but I did stray to have Beef Wellington one night! I even had 2 servings. YUM! And at lunch one day, there was an Asian stir-fry that was fantastic – just be careful of the ‘heat level’ you choose  My dining partner, Circus GO Dylan, had a little too much heat in his and had to get another plate.  I had fresh made omelets, wonderful bacon, breakfast potatoes, and bread each morning, along with great tasting Café con leche. If you can’t find something to eat, you are too picky. Even the kids had great options at all meals including hamburgers, pizza, chicken fingers, etc - all the typical kid food.
My 16 year old daughter was with me and she joined in the Passworld activities on day 1 and made a wonderful group of friends that she hung out with the rest of the week. And although I didn’t have a little one, I did hear them from time to time walking through the village doing their ‘chant’. It is really very cute to see them walking, hand-in-hand along the sidewalk responding to their GO leaders’ calls. Club Med really is a fantastic place for kids of all ages!
Club Med Punta Cana was my 12th Club Med trip. I love the relaxed feeling of Club Med, the way the GOs interact with the guests (GMs) and all the things you can do at Club Med. I love the way everyone gets in vacation mode and the pace slows down to a point where you can sit down beside someone and carry on a conversation – or- just sit and sip your drink, taking in all the beauty around you. The food is always great – with no worries about where to go for dinner each night, and you don’t get nickeled and dimed with sodas, coffee, snacks, etc. You could literally eat at any time of day from 7 am to midnight and not spend a dime.

If you are looking for a relaxed, fun-filled beach vacation, and don’t need ‘pampering’, then Club Med is the place for you. You can learn new things like Zumba, Trapeze, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, etc., practice a sport you already know like tennis – or, you can just sit on the beach and read your book. It is up to you. All this, plus if you have kids, they can be in ‘camp’ all day, just like you – or they can hang by your side. Once again, it is all up to you.
I’m already planning Spring Break for next year. Not sure whether I’m returning to Club Med Cancun, or Ixtapa. I have a few months to figure that out, but until then, I have grand memories of Club Med Punta Cana and Eduardo’s GO team. Thanks for the fun

Room Tip: If you don't have kids, request a room near trapeze.

We were last year in Club Med Cancun and it was the best vacation ever because of the personal touch of the village manager Eduardo Rojas. He was able to make us feel like we are visiting family there. We wished Club Med Punta Cana would have similar manager like him. Right after our arrival we realized that we were lucky with CM Punta Cana choice because all worked as expected - similar to Cancun. We were not surprised when we met Eduardo the next evening greeting guests in front of the restaurant. He was able to deliver the best vacation ever again to us.
Only disappointment was the coral reef - but I do not think that Eduardo could change anything there :-). If you want to see fish and corals go to Club Med Cancun - here is nothing in the water. Beach is nice, clean with beautify colored water, but inside is just sand.
We would like to thank Kenneth from the bar for his hard work.
Overall: great resort, clean, fantastic food, family atmosphere, helpful personnel - all worked like Swiss watch.
