We went down for our wedding on March Break this year and I can't say enough about this fantastic resort. i am 28 and my husband is 29. We had a group of 42 people and I highly recommend it for a wedding location, a romantic getaway and a fun place to go with friends.
The service was excellent. As soon as our bus arrived to check in at the resort they had staff waiting to assist us. My husband and I were ushered immediately to the VIP section for our free upgrade to the Royal Service side (The Gabi). We were given drinks and food while we waited for our room. As for our guests, the desk promptly checked all of their luggage and told them to come back in a few hours to get their room key so you were not stuck waiting all day in the lobby for available rooms. On the Gabi side the room service was phenomenal and the staff were wonderful. You were also able to call for a golf cart any time you needed a lift to take you around the resort.
Absolutely gorgeous! This resort is fairly new so the rooms were modernly decorated and the bathroom was lovely. The free honeymoon suite also has a kitchen, dining room, living room and a hot tub. There is alcohol, pop and water in all the rooms (not just the honeymoon suite). There were lots of clean towels every day and refills in your fridge. Great air conditioning too and a nice balcony on all rooms.
The buffets are fantastic too! There are two down by the beach and one up by the lobby. There is also another by the lobby that is open until 5 am if you need alcohol/food beyond regular hours. You can go to a la cartes every night if you like. The resort only allows you to make reservations the day before so that others cannot book up the best restaurants all week. I recommend the Japanese, the Dominican (El Guarapo) and the American. The Gabi was also fantastic if you are on the Royal Service side.
There are many classy lounges to sit and enjoy a drink and there is also a disco called the "Fun Pub" which is open every night. On Wednesdays the pub is closed because there is a party on the beach instead which is awesome!!!
Absolutely gorgeous!!! You do have to hunt for a chair but we never had a problem rounding them up and we were in large groups (8 people-12 people at a time). We did not get up early and play the towel game and we were fine. There are free water sports, beach volleyball and some beach shops to the right for shopping. The sand is white and powdery on the beach and in the ocean - not a rock in sight!
The casino was really fun and they always had a market set up in the evenings just outside of the casino with things like cigars, art and jewelry. They also had a nightly show in the theatre which is right beside the casino in the main lobby. We loved the Michael Jackson Tribute!!! The mall on the property is the biggest one in the DR and had lots of great stores!
If you are getting married there, you have 3 different packages to choose from. No matter what package you choose there is no reception dance which made me nervous. All of them have a ceremony, a cake, champaign, and dinner at an a la carte and they range in price. We went with the "Tides" package and it was perfect!! I also recommend paying extra for the horse and carriage! The carriage picks up the wedding party and takes them to the Gazebo. We got married around 2 because the sun sets by 6:30 there and we wanted time for pictures. The photographers there are fantastic - they have an entire wedding department and a photography department - both very professional. After pictures we returned to the El Guarapo restaurant for our reception dinner. I chose it because of the decor (it looked the most formal and neutral) but the food ended up being amazing!!! We chose the chicken risotto for everyone and our guests were so impressed with how good it was! We did our speeches there and had cake for dessert. Like I said before, there is no dance regardless of which package you choose unless you pay $2000 (dance floor, dj, booze) so you can go to the Fun Pub and toss security 100 bucks to keep it as a private party. It has low ceilings and draped linens with a nice dance floor and bar. The DJ will play whatever you want so show up with CDs. With that said, the disco was closed on the night of our wedding because it was Wednesday!! Every Wednesday they have a beach party instead and it ended up working out much better!!! We sent our party down to the beach and it was empty besides the bar tender and the DJ. There were lights strung throughout the trees and it looked awesome!! We gave the DJ our CDs and he played our first song. We danced until 4am on the beach - the reception dance was so much more fun than the disco would have been so I highly recommend getting married on a Wednesday!
All in all, our guests had a blast! The only 2 things that annoyed me were how big the resort was and the fact that there was no beach bar. You had to walk into the buffet to get a drink if you were on the beach.
