“Bit of a disappointment for a 5 star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

Went Nov 24 - Dec 1/12 for one week. Once we landed in Punta Cana, I found the airport crowded and somewhat disorganized. Since travellers were from all over the world, some airlines did not give the passengers the Customs slips to fill out before hand. There were people everywhere and it was hard to know if you were in the right line to go through to pay your landing tax.
Once at the resort, first room (was in the hotel part, not bungalows. They wanted $15/pp per day to upgrade or if you wanted platinum, it was even more) had a strong odor of mildew. The room was nicely laid out, but the odour was quite a turn off. We decided to stick it out for the night to see if I could adjust to it. That night it rained and water began leaking from the ceiling. Went to the front desk and had the room changed. The second room smelled much better and it was close to the stairwell as well. The bed was extremely hard - a bit too much for my liking.
The beach is fantastic - soft white sand. There were plenty of chairs and a couple of cabanas on the beach. You could parasail for an additional price. Only complaint was the showers didn't have enough water pressure to wash your feet.
To get your beach towel you went to spot near the bar pool by the ocean. There's no sign to direct you to the spot, you had to ask someone.
The food was good overall. Never went to the ala cartes. The buffet had a different theme each night and it kept it interesting. I found the buger shack by the platinum club made great burgers.
I found if you weren't a platinum customer, you felt like second class. However, the 'upper' customers were to get better liquor, accommodations, own beach section, etc. but in reality, they scammed these people. The liquor these people got were not of premium quality. Actually, I found they used cheap booze for a 5 star resort and was sick on our 5th day. Not sure what happened but we were drinking the same thing and we were both ill for 24hrs. That put a damper on our last 2 days.
Went shopping at some mall (which was lame) and was overpriced. The best deal was at the grocery store to buy liquor & coffee.
I didn't feel as safe in the D.R. as I do in Cuba. I'm not sure what it is, but I found the people not quite as friendly as the Cubans. Some of the service staff don't even try to speak English. They have vendors there and a travel club that constantly pestered you to join the club.
Was not happy with our Sunwing rep who promised to show us a 5 Diamond resort. That was a waste of 2 hours. They wisked us to this 4 star resort for breakfast (it was not the greatest) to try and sell us their travel club.
BEWARE of these people both at the resort and your travel rep.
Will admit, the grounds were taken care of and there was a train/tram that went around the resort to shuttle people around. The pool by the hotel was relaxing and not very noisey so it was perfect for reading or snoozing.
Overall, it was an okay resort.

Room Tip: Hotel was ok - make sure theres no leaks in ceiling

We just got back from a week at the Bavaro Princess in Punta Cana .The place was big and beautiful. We had a beautiful clean room that was only a five minute walk to the pool and beach. The beach was so big with lots of lounge chairs and also the same at the pools. The buffet was very good, There was something for everyone. We ate at several restaurants and they were also very good and the service was great. They have some shops there but everything was very expensive,If you want to take some souveniers home go up to the BAVARO shopping plaza right outside the resort. It's only a 3 minute walk but be prepared to bargain if you want a good deal.We also had a concierge named Carlos through APPLE VACATIONS.He was fantastic. He found us everyday to check to see if everything was alright and if we needed anything he took care of it for us.So you won't be disappointed if you go there. We would definetly go backj.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the pool and beach are more convenient

We returned from DR on March 2. We had a group of 8. The beaches are beautiful, but the Bavaro Princess Beach, was by far the nicest. Other areas were more weedy and not as large. We loved our hotel rep in charge of apple guests, Carlos. He helped us every way possible. The staff, restaurants, and food were all FINE, don't believe those bad reviews.

Room Tip: bungalo suites are the best

The Apple rep. Carlos was the BEST! He made our trip memorable with his excellent service. Also,Albert P.,one of the wait staff, went over and above to make our experience a great one. Room in Bldg.35 was one of the best we have ever been in at any resort. As for the food, it was good but people should not be expecting it to be of the same quality as in your home country.Food should not be #1 reason for taking vacation in Punta Cana.

Room Tip: Choose a Building near the beach or if you have trouble walking, choose a building near a trolley sto...

First of all I would like to thank Carlos, our rep for all the tlc he gave us while we were there. As for the hotel, the service was outstanding. From the housekeeping to the the wait staff. Everyone was super. The beach was the best beach I have ever been on. It was clean and was large enough without feeling crowded. The food was good. Good variety of food at the al la carte restaurants and buffets. Bartenders were prompt and friendly. Overall I would recommend this facility. Awesome!

Room Tip: The outback safari was a fun adventure, if you want to see the real dominican. Not alot of people h...

All i can say is fantastic!!!!! We are so happy we chose this resort. :) We had three rooms in total and they placed us all in the same building. :) Great news for us as we were with children. The grounds are meticulously maintained....stunning. Lots of shade and winding trails. Our room had fresh towels at least twice a day.. sometimes more! Surprising because most hotels only do this once. The staff is what made this vacation so great :) Carlos at the snack shack knew us and would ensure we got great drinks. .... always happy to see us. Juan at the pool was the same. The staff at the main buffet were absolutely fantastic. Every morning the guy making the omelettes would lean over the counter and Man-hug my husband and fist pump the rest of us. After the first day we tried to sit in the same section of the buffet (as there were 5 of us) Soon the staff there knew us. They called us "their beautiful family". By the third day they had THAT specific table reserved especially for us. It was held till we got there breakfast, lunch and dinner....amazing. The last two days there they had fresh flowers on OUR table waiting for us to arrive. So sweet of them. We always thanked them and they were always so happy to see us. I believe if you treat people kindly they will treat you the same. :) Twice we ate at one of the restaurants. At our second dinner the restaurant server asked what our room number was.... when dinner was over a very nice bottle of pineapple wine was in our room waiting for us. We DID NOT pay for the platinum service but it sure seemed like we got it. Cannot say enough about how great this vacation was. It was sad to leave. I really liked the fact that there is lots of lush vegetation at this resort and that the staff all greeted you with "Aloha" everywhere we went. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. It may be great to be on one of the large resorts but im sure you end up just being another face there. Here you are remembered and we will sure remember the great time we had there. We did ziplining and would highly recommend doing this. Our sunwing rep booked us and we had a fabulous time with the zip lining guid

Carlos the apple rep was awesome! We had a large group and he took very good care of us. Carlos the bartender at the beach bar made excellent drinks! The food was better than I expected but the servers in the restaurants were kind of rude. Felix did a great job at the hibachi grill. The animation staff was very friendly. We did not need to upgrade to platinum because our rooms were practically on the beach and Carlos made us feel like VIP! The train service was good. Never had to wait more than 10 or so minutes. The beach was beautiful!
