This is our fourth trip to the Bavaro Princess and we're delighted to say that not much has changed. We found the place exactly as we had left it last January. The 94 acre setting retains its unmatched beauty and exotic serenity with exquisitely kept landscaping that adds to its captivating charm. Rather than a "hotel-like" feel, the property consists of multiple units, each with 8 spacious suites, set into a neighborhood-like setting with serpentine paths with ample gardens and green space between. Peafowl, ducks, geese, chickens and ecological trails, rife with birds, plants, turtles, etc., provide tantalizing opportunities for the nature-loving curiosity in each of us. The planners of this facility were light years ahead of the more traditional, high-rise, cramped facility developers. However, the real measure of a property's value is in its staff and their service. The Bavaro Princess excels in this area with genuinely friendly, courteous and helpful personnel. One cannot walk more than 25 steps without receiving a smile and an "hola" from employees from maids to grounds keepers, supervisors and upper management. One of my favorite people is Leonel, the omelette chef at La Hispaniola restaurant. This individual has a playful, impish manner and a smile that will jump start anyone's day, regardless of weather and mood. Additionally, he makes a fantastic omelette to order. Anarcimenes is a waiter that does double duty at the McPrincess, down by the beach. He greets everyone with a smile and ensures that one's glass is never empty. He is also attentive to individual needs, in that he recognized our like of international cheeses at the outdoor cheese buffet. On two separate occasions, when the buffet was not set up, he brought us a separate plate of mixed cheeses. Carlos, our concierge, went out of his way to stop by everyday and chat for 10 - 15 minutes to ask us if there was anything we needed or if there were any problems encountered. His English is outstanding and is thoughtful visits displayed a genuine interest in the individuals under his watch. Maria, our maid, kept our room immaculately clean and provided daily flower and towel sculptures that were a visual delight that added significantly to our vacation experience.
The property, with its 9 restaurants, caters to an international clientele and their food is representative. It is not 5 star but certainly well above average with ample selections to suit every palate. Unfortunately, as every seasoned traveler realizes, there are demanding, never happy, rude, insulting individuals of all nationalities that probably should never leave their native shores. That said, the staff members work hard to meet the needs of the most difficult clients, unfortunately with limited success.
We are already at work, preparing yet another 10 day visit to the Bavaro Princess next January to escape the bony grip of old man winter.
Rooms along the tram path are convenient for individuals who like to ride to their locations.
