Our vacation to Punta Cana from June 29 - July 5, 2013 was amazing! We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the Paradisus Resort in Punta Cana. From the moment we arrived to the moment we departed, the Paradisus and its wonderful staff did not disappoint.
The Paradisus was, by far, the most beautiful resort (with respect to the resort grounds and facilities) of all the resorts we saw when driving to pick up other guests on various excursions. There was absolutely no comparison. The Paradisus' groundskeeping staff work diligently to keep this resort looking its best at all times. From our first step into the Paradisus lobby, we knew we were at a special place. The candle lanterns on the "boardwalk" entry, the swings while waiting for the trams, the flamingos near the Aqua restaurant as we dined and the incredible pool area were all examples of some of the things that make this place breathtakingly beautiful. The beachfront is just as well-groomed as the rest of the grounds and is amply supplied with comfy beach lounge chairs and "beachbeds" equipped with comfy pillows and always visited regularly by the Paradisus waitstaff asking to bring you drinks or anything else you might need!
I had heard before coming to the Paradisus that I would be disappointed in the food selection at the buffet and that resort guests had a very difficult time obtaining dinner reservations. With one phone call and a wonderful operator named Ezequiel, I was able to make all of our dinner reservations for the entire week in six different restaurants. All of the restaurants were wonderful. I highly recommend Aqua for lunch if you are unable to get in for dinner. The restaurant, "Fuego", was also exceptional My tip to getting reservations is to call in advance. It should be noted that several restaurants on the resort property including The Grill, Mole and Aqua (three we dined at on the pool side of the resort) do not have air conditioning and guests should know this when reserving a space. If A/C is important, then try Vento, Fuego or Bana. All were wonderful!
We found the rooms to be a little warm/humid. I think Americans are accustomed to very cold air conditioning and this will not happen in these rooms. The system does not seem to be able to get the humidity completely out of the room and it was not really cool enough for our liking overall, but did not in any way take away from our overall experience.
The pool bar staff and the activity staff near the pool were outstanding. The pool was very large with beautiful plant life all around the exterior and even the interior of the pool area. I would say that we would have enjoyed the pool being open in the evenings. There were a few nights after dinner that we would have enjoyed a night swim to cool off, but the pool area was closed.
Activities during the day are ample. We spent probably 65% of our time near the pool and the remainder of our time on the beach. The pool activity staff are fun to be with and extremely friendly. It should be noted that speaking English at the Paradisus is not a problem. This was another thing we heard coming to Punta Cana. Our experience at the Paradisus was the staff spoke English well enough to carry on conversations with us and we never had an issue with the "language barrier" you so often read about in other reviews. Outside of the Paradisus, it is a little more difficult we found, although we took an excursion to Santo Domingo and our tour guide, Monchy, was brilliant.
There are some special staff members that our family and the family that traveled with us especially enjoyed who made our trip memorable: Maikel Aquino, an activity team member, is the best! We all loved Maikel and were genuinely sad to say goodbye to him! Jorge, in the North Avenue Bar, was another staff member that made our stay at the Paradisus very special. Jorge always had a smile and a "high five" for us. Ezequiel Alvarez Acosta, I can not say enough about, as he is the main reason we had such a wonderful vacation. Ezequiel greeted us with a warm smile when we asked for him and from that moment on, we received phone calls to our rooms asking if everything was ok throughout the week. Ezequiel even made a point to stop by after our final dinner at Bana to bid us farewell and again the next morning in the lobby upon checkout. Today, Ezequiel even sent an email asking if we arrived home safely. He is truly a "gem" that the Paradisus Resort is fortunate to have on staff.
We are already discussing our next trip to Paradisus Punta Cana and, next time, we will definitely stay at least ten days. You will love this place!
