We stayed there first week of April. Let's start with good things.
First of all you are going there because of the beach and sea - absolutely amazing, white sand, crystal clear green and blue water, simply beautiful.
Hotel needs updates, especially part which room numbers start with 5***. That part is very old and very bad. They put us there, but after one night we went to front desk and asked to move to newer section which is decent. It is true you won't spend your time in the room, but you would like clean and nice room.
Service, bartenders and staff completely without courteousness, without smile, however, believe if you are in a love with beach and sea nothing can ruin your day hahaha.
Food was OK and Steak House was the best a la carte, casino buffet the best buffet, overall food was good, we did not have any stomach problems.
Excursions: if you are on Dominican and do not go to any it's like you have not been there. Definitely try Jeep Safari. You will get your own jeep and go off road to the mountains, sugar and banana plantations, this was definitely worth. (Bring some change or chocolates for kids that will run next to your jeep). Also, go to Marinarium: swimming with sharks, stingrays, snorkeling......very nice excursion.
We felt very fulfilled after 7 days of vacation and those two excursions.
If anybody needs help I am willing to answer any question because I know how hard for me was to make this decision. Contact me: vlado_bk@hotmail.com
You will have great time and enjoy it!!!

Very clean. They tried to make it fun with activities going on all day. The rooms where fine for us four, we were hardly in there-comfy beds. Did see a few bugs - I would bring spray. We took our son a few days shy of age 15 and our daughter age 12. IIt was family friendly overall except for all the topless moms/grannies which was a shocker for our conservative American family. There was mostly families with very young children or older couples. The DR is beautiful along the shoreline. We only left our resort once to go on an excursion (the zipline) which was disappointing. The resort had a wonderful large pool, not so friendly bartenders - would recommend bringing the travel mug for drinks which aren't that great (we did like the beer) and they served our kids alcohol even though we said no, but it is really weak booze so it didn't hurt anything. I don't recommend going there unless you can speak some Spanish. The food was just o.k. my guys loved the steaks at the Steakhouse. We all ended up getting stomach aches so be careful (we did not drink the water). It was so beautiful and we had a good time overall.

Before I went ot Punta Cana I read a lot of complains about this hotel but thanks of God all that comments definitly was wrong , my experience was really good, the rooms, the service, the pool, the bars , and the disco are so great. definitly I will back.
Tips don't spend money on travels like Saona Island or Dolphin Iland is better stay in the resort , if you really want to go to see the dolphins go to the park you can enjoi it the park and te dolphins too, and if you want to buy sourvenirs walk aroun 5 minutes in the beach and you can saw the market, and if you want to buy Larimar stone is better wait until the airport or in thejewerly in the hotel.

The beautiful with a long stretch of beach and clear sandy water. However, we did find the food at our hotel to be mediocre. The best buffet was at the Casino try to stick with to the freshly cooked station. The best a la carte restaurant was the Italian, but even that was questionable. Our hotel room needed a revamp. We tipped and asked for extra towels, 4 days later, she finally gave us extra. We arrived on the 1st and left on the 9th which was the start of Easter week. On our last day, the hotel was having trouble coping with the extra people...not enough plates at the breakfast buffet, no beach towels left, not enough beach chairs...Overall, I would not go again to this Barcelo.

We arrived at 11 am so our room was not ready (we were prepared for this) so we changed and headed to the pool bar. Our room was ready at 3pm.. as described. The staff were very helpful.. a smile, hola and a 1.00 goes a long way. Our room was in the older section of the resort so it was more of a 3 *... our toilet broke but staff came quickly to fix. The food at the buffet was ok....breakfast was fantastic and the a la carte (steakhouse and mexican) were fantastic. The Italian a la Carte was horrible. The beach was fantastic as was the service at our beach bar and beach restaurant (shrimp were really good). I can't say enough about the service it was wonderful. A usd dollar goes a long way... and remember to smile. Security was always present and we felt very safe. Shopping was available (locals) down the beach (left) and we paid about half of what they wanted after we did some haggling. Snorkling (15), Bananna Boat (8), Tube (10), Hair Braids (30), Massage (15) Parasailing (35) were all available on our beach. I think I would try a new resort because of the food... I cannot say enough about the beach. We stayed in room 7126 and 7127 and we were 2 minutes from beach, bar and beach buffet. Again the Caribe is the older area of the resort and the rooms need some work - they are scheduled for renovations in the fall....... Wi Fi is available for 25.00 and you get 24 hours to use over 6 days. This was helpful ( we had a laptop) for the 4 teenage girls we had with us. As parents we felt the area to be safe during the day for the girls but at night we kept them close with us - the Caribe Pool Bar is the hot spot at night and lots of partying going on - we spent a few evenings there ourselves but the girls stayed close by. Lots of young people on spring break. They did not bother us but some may not like the behavior..... This property has five resorts (Palace, Beach, Caribe, Golf and Casino). We had access to all resorts except the Palace. You get a braclet to identify what resort you are at. Remember to move the braclet or you get a tan line :). Bring lots of bug spray if you are prone to bites - sand fleas and musquitos are an issue for some people. I was the only one of 7 that got a tremendous amount of bites - we were out every evening. 2/7 of our group had upset stomach/diahrea but it was quickly eliminated with soem imodium. 5 of us were never affected ---- I drank pepto every morning and night - and I was fine. I drank a lot of the mixed drinks and they have coconut milk so I was mindful of the affect of coconut milk. As for the reviewers that say staff are terrible I did not see one staff person who was not smiling. I even tipped the security guard and gave him some water. The staff work long hours for little pay. You are going to a developing country so remember that and have a great time..... One night our power went out for 3 minutes - the whole resort - this is not uncommon as the grid is not as powerful as here in Canada. It was early eveing when I assume a lot of people are getting cleaned up for the evening - so brink a candle or flashlight... it was short lived - we didn't mind it at all............. we felt very safe the whole time we were there -- and the beach out weighs the fact the rooms are old!!!
