Booked a PADI Open Water course on line with Dressel Divers and got a 20% discount. Did the e-learning before arriving which saved a lot of time on holiday. Started the course, did the learning review and sorted all the PADI paperwork. I then got kitted out with all the rental gear and headed off for the pool for the first confined water dive...and that's as far as it got that day. I panicked and despite the instructors best efforts to help me, decided to call it a day and go away and think things through. After a couple of days of doing some snorkelling to get my confidence back, I returned to restart the course. The instructor took it really slow and easy with me, allowing me to gain confidence in the kit and myself, before getting me to do some of the training. As soon as I'd overcome my fear of the unknown, I really started to enjoy the whole experience....it's quite demanding, but you are learning all the safety procedures necessary to dive safely. I had a different instructor for each of the afternoon sessions I did (5) and was impressed by all of them. Each had a slightly different approach, but the high standard of training was always the same. With a lot of encouragement from the whole team, booking staff, equipment specialists, instructors and boat captains, I finally realised my dream and obtained my Open Water certification. Thanks to Xavier, Chris, David, Erika, Olena and Mataeus for their patience and understanding, but most of all for making it fun!
