I can only agree with what most of the previous reviewers have said. This resort is top shelf and the people who work there are exceptional. The only thing I would like to warn people about is calling ahead to make requests. My husband called and requested a room off the ground floor in a quiet area of the resort (spoke to Giovanni). We ended up on the ground floor by the entrance from the pool area. Ruined my first night's stay as I am a light sleeper and was awakened twice during the night. The next day we were told that they were working on getting us a room change (not what we wanted to hear). My husband went down to the hotel lobby to find out what the problem was. The manager, Freddy, was called to deal with the issue. He was the one who we should have talked to from the beginning. He promised us a room change by 5pm on our second day. The room he gave us was wonderful. It was not only off the ground floor it had a view of the sea. He had a bottle of sparkling wine on the table, along with 2 floral arrangements and rose petals sprinkled all over our bed. If you want to call ahead with requests, do yourself a favor and ask to speak to Freddy.
Our first floor personal butlers, Justo and Carlos, both of whom were attentive and accommodating, came with us to the third floor (the 3rd floor butler Jason would have been equally as wonderful).
Dinner choices were varied, however, securing the reservation you desire could be a problem. I advise requesting the day, the restaurant and the seating time via email right after you book your trip, cc to yourself, and bring a copy along with you. Our first night we ate at the buffet, since we had no set reservations for any of the four ethnic restaurants. We had a lovely red wine, Masia Rebot, which we preferred to wine offered at the other restaurants. At each of the other restaurants we requested it, and our waiter secured us a bottle.
Justo was able to get us a 7pm reservation at the Italian restaurant for our second dinner, but when we tried to book for the other three restaurants, the concierge told us that only 9pm seatings were available! Yet, when we walked by these restaurants between 6:30 and 8:30 pm they were never full??? Needless to say we complained, and to our pleasant surprise we found three reservation slips in our room for 7pm.
As far as the restaurants go, we were unimpressed with the Italian. I should preface this with the fact that I am of Italian descent, and quite a good Italian cook. The pasta dish was nothing special and the Salmon Carpaccio was bland.
At the Surf and Turf restaurant my husband's NY Strip steak was not served medium rare as requested, but medium. My favorite dish (lamb chops) was delicious; however two of the six were extremely rare.
The French restaurant, which doesn't get well reviewed, was a very nice treat. Both dishes we ordered (Fillet Mignon for my husband and for me a creamy risotto-like dish which included pieces of beef) were well prepared and tasty. The ice cream at this restaurant was lush and creamy.
Now for the Japanese restaurant, our favorite of the four. The hibachi experience was a delight. Our chef was excellent and charming. He always served me first, my being the elder. Our Vegetable Tempura was light and perfect; one the best we've ever had. Everyone had the Fried Rice, which was outstanding; tasty and not the least bit oily. The shrimp and the chicken were prepared very very well. The waiters were attentive as usual, and one even had a gentle sense of humor.(When I asked if I might have a fork, he smiled and said "no".)
As far as breakfast and lunch went, whether buffet or room service, overall we were satisfied, though we preferred the breakfast buffet (try the grapefruit juice custom made with coconut...yum yum). Drinks abound, to your liking...need I say more.
You may have noticed that I made no mention of "Boom, Boom." Why bother, HE IS THE SHOW!
One last tip, (and no pun intended), tip generously and frequently...every last one of this hotel's employees deserves this and more; (praise/recognition).

We thank you for posting a review about your experience at the Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro and for choosing our premises for your holidays.
On behalf of Mr. Stefano Baratelli, hotel Manager, we would like to express you our satisfaction to acknowledge that the excellent service that provides our staff as well as our varied gastronomy ensured you a pleasant stay despite the incidences related to your room assignment for which we extend our apologies. Iberostar Hotels and Resorts are committed to provide the best service to all our beloved guests. We have congratulated all those staff members whose excellent work left a memorable impression on both of you during your visit.
We would like to clarify once again how our a la carte restaurant reservation system works. Our booking system is based on restaurant sittings for our 4 specialty restaurants at 18:30, 19:00, 20:00 and 21:00. If we reserve all the tables in 4 turns, we would have to force our guests to have dinner too fast, therefore not being able to enjoy a nice dinner. Booking every table in the 4 sittings also leads guests to wait for completion of previous guests enjoy their evening, which eventually causes a whole delayed reservation system and affected many guests. It is important to specify that the most popular sitting time among our guests are between 19 and 20 hours and it is impossible for everyone to dine at this time interval, as the quality service to be offered would be mitigated. An excellent alternative to the specialty restaurants is our nightly themed buffet, where you will find more flexible hours as it is not necessary to book and a wide variety of exquisite products diversifies every night depending on the specialty chosen by our chef (Oriental Night , Dominican, Mexican, Tropical, among others). We remind our valuable costumers that as Iberostar Grand guest, you always can book any of the ten a la carte restaurants from the Iberostar Bavaro, Dominicana and Punta Cana hotels and our Star Rock Café which requires no reservation.
We will be happy to welcome you back once again and remain at your entire disposition for further assistance.
