“Iberostar Grand”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

We stayed 5 days at the Grand and it was amazing. The staff were very helpful and the nicest anyone could ask for. There was not a moment when we needed a drink or something to eat that we couldn't be accommodated with. The food was pretty good for the lunch period. The best food was in the evenings. The surf & Turf was exceptional as was the Japanese restaurant. The grounds, the hotel, our room and even the beach is groomed to an immaculate condition. The sand on this beach is white and the softest we've ever experienced. We could not find our Latte or iced coffee drinks as we were accustomed to here at home but we managed just fine. I would recommend this resort highly to anyone looking for a place to relax and enjoy the best ocean, palm trees and service one could imagine.

Room Tip: our room was on the first floor overlooking the garden, it was perfect. I wouldn't spend the mo...

After months of research and reading other reviews on TripAdvisor, I felt fairly confident in choosing the Iberostar Grand Bavaro for our first grown-ups only trip with my sister in law and her husband. We'd spent hours reading other traveler reviews and watching slideshows of pictures from other reviewers...we managed to get so excited we were worried that we would set our expectations too high and be disappointed. We should not have worried! The resort is everything it appears to be in pictures, and even better than the reviews prepared us to expect- from the moment we stepped off the shuttle van to the moment we had to leave, we were in paradise.

The property: the design of the property is imposing and regal, and the decor impressive. Low, comfortable couches scattered between tall columns; beautifully landscaped gardens with winding paths; gorgeous hallways with mirrors, artwork, sculpture and private conversation spaces....somehow, the resort manages to feel huge and intimate at the same time. The layout, with the rooms, restaurants and shops framing the central garden and pool area, makes the space feel cozy and private; yet at no time did we feel cramped or crowded. And it is all so very, very clean. Every morning the staff of the Iberostar is out mopping, sweeping, dusting - it felt immaculately clean and well-maintained. The bathrooms are all so beautifully appointed (each area has different themed bathrooms - it's worth it to try to see them all!) and clean....The pool area was large and laid out in such a way that all of the chairs and cabanas felt close to the water. The beach was pristine and the water as blue as the pictures make it appear. The beach staff keep the area clean and the palapas were spaced well apart for privacy. Everything about the look and feel of the resort was perfect....

The rooms: we were on the 4th floor in the center section, so we had incredible views of the garden, pool and ocean. We'd get up early each morning to sit on our balcony and feel the breeze roll in from the water and marvel at how beautiful everything looked! The bed was comfortable and large, the air conditioning was AMAZING, the bathroom was spacious and we had all of the amenities we needed. We didn't spend much time in the room, but we were very comfortable in it!

The food: better than most all-inclusives. The breakfast and lunch buffets were not exciting, but the food always appeared to be very fresh. The restaurants were VERY fun and very good. We ate at the hibachi on our first night and had a wonderful, silly time with our chef and tablemates. The food is standard for the chain Japanese steakhouses we have at home, tasty and in large quantities. We also ate at the Italian restaurant, which gets some less-than-stellar reviews here, but which we enjoyed immensely. The food was presented beautifully and was very good, in portions that were entirely more than we could eat. We really loved the surf and turf, which had an excellent variety of dishes and all cooked very well. We were a little disappointed that crab legs seemed to be still frozen instead of served hot, but as they were only an appetizer, we just skipped over them. The wine served with the meals is pretty middle of the road, but absolutely drinkable. The non-wine lovers in our party had cocktails instead. The bars serve snacks as well as drinks, and all of the drinks are poured pretty strong!! Room service was a little disappointing as all of the food was cold by the time it reached our rooms - if you choose to order room service, consider ordering already-cold items, like the fruit trays.

The people, the people, the people: The very best part about this resort is its staff, every single one of whom work hard to make our vacations wonderful. I never walked past anyone in Iberostar uniform who didn't make it a point to greet me and ask me how my trip was going. The lovely women who were cleaning (they are ALWAYS cleaning and keeping things beautiful) would pause to say hello, the gentlemen cleaning the flamingo pond would smile and wave- everyone at the resort makes it a point to be welcoming and friendly. We met some incredible people here. Lely, who was our favorite beach & pool bar server, had an amazing sense of humor; Leticia found us every single day to check in and make sure we were having as much fun as possible; Boom-Boom was an ever-present entertainment - his entire job seemed to be walking around checking in to see that you were doing something enjoyable....Maria helped us play silly games on her birthday...our wonderful butler, Kelvin, seemed to materialize every time we had questions or needed anything. Abdul, who worked in the bell service area, kept us entertained as he drove us around the adjoining resorts. Everyone in the resort worked HARD to keep us happy yet it never felt like an effort. It's hard to imagine people being that naturally happy all the time, but they really seemed to be happy to help. We were grateful for their presence.

We visited the neighboring Iberostar properties and a few of the others on the island, and I can tell you that the biggest difference was the people. It's amazing how much the atmosphere of a resort changes when the staff is happy. We saw a lot of unhappy travelers at the other resorts, and a lot of unhappy staff in them....we were SO eager to return to our haven at the Iberostar Grand!! We laughed so much on this trip, and smiled so much, because of the people around us. The staff is truly, truly the best part of the resort.

A word of advice: join in on the games and activities. Yes, they will make you look silly. And yes, chances are you'll be really bad at them. But you will have SO much fun! We took dancing lessons, "rode" the magic carpet and played the egg game and had a wonderful time doing it all.

Have an AMAZING trip! You will be so very glad you chose this resort!

I stayed here with my family in October 2012. The resort is mainly full of couples and honeymooners but I still managed to have a fantastic time with my family as there is plenty to do!

This resort is one of the best I have stayed in, they have every detail down to a t! The food is spectacular, the cocktails at the pool bar are delicious and the beach is absolutely stunning. I would absolutely 100% recommend this hotel as my memories from the Dominican Republic will never leave me.

We spent several months trying to decide where we wanted to spend out 25th anniversary. Friends of ours were celebrating their 30th anniversary and we decided to go together. The cost was somewhat of a concern we were worried it would not be worth the extra amount. Spend the extra amount it was worth every penny! Customer service was over the top. We up graded to the ocean view, worth the money. They in the process of some upgrade in one wing, but it is totally blocked off. not an eye sore or a distraction. We never had a problem finding loungers at the pool or beach. Nothing ever seemed crowded. Food was good. Spend some time finding what you really like. Huge selection. We booked our dinning outside the buffet when we arrived. No problems. There were times we requested drinks to our room and it took too long. We began just running down to the closest bar. The rooms were made-up beautifully every day, with rose peddles. On our last evening we requested a romantic bath. The anticipation built all day and was not a disappointment. All couple should request this service. The casino at the other Iberostar property was a disappointment. We took a cab to the Hard Rock which had a nice casino, free drinks while you play. The Cab driver told us that the Iberostar Grand was recognized locally as the best resort in Punta Cana. This is the place to stay!

Room Tip: 4th floor overlooking the ship. No morning sun. Good view of the pool and ocean. Close to the dinnin...

My wife and I stayed 6 days for our 25th anniversary, have travelled to Punta Cana a total of 6 other times in the past, always staying at a different resort. This is the best in my opinion - excellent, friendly, polite service; very good quality and variety at the buffet; grounds are well-maintained and picturesque, beach is very nice plenty of shaded areas. Although our other trips to Punta Cana were enjoyable at nice resorts, the Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro is a notch above all of the others. This is the one we will return to.

I'm sure you have read how great this resort is and it is true. I'm not going to rewrite what the majority have already written but i am going to give you info on the little things you should know.
In some cases you have read that the resort at times needs some upgrades. This is true but just a little. This is still a beautiful resort, and unless the resort is brand new any resort will need an upgrade. Do not pay any attention to the negatives about the apearance of the resort. It is beautiful.
Beach - The sand is very soft and at times very pact and smooth. Even in the water. There are no rocks at all. The only dissapointment may be the water wasn't as clear as some of the other resorts we have stayed at. (6th time to D.R.)
Rooms- Very clean and comfortable. If the pillows are not to your liking you have a choice ( Down, Ergo, 6 total choices ) Room service 24 hrs and only 45min wait after ordering.
Service- Best we have come across in any resort. Jose our butler went beyond what was expected.
Food- Let's just say I had lobster every day for lunch and dinner. The food was great. Way better then any all inclusive.
TIPS YOU SHOULD KNOW.
If your air goes out, check your patio door. If it is not closed properly the air will not come on.
Shopping- Even though the shop at the resort is farely reasonable you can go on shopping spree that the resort supplies transportation to. San Juan shopping center. We were able to buy liquor and coffee cheaper then the shops on the beach.
Most of All - Please tip the staff. They will make your stay enjoyable even without tipping. Remember you are going to the best resort in Punta Cana and I,m sure it wasn't cheap. If you could afford the trip you could afford to tip for the great service you will receive.

Room Tip: Stay as long as you can - It is so worth it.

We stayed from Sept. 11th- 18th. We arrived at the airport at 1:20 and since we had already had our tourist card printed online and also our transfer to the hotel we breezed through the airport and was in our private van in 30 minutes total from the time we landed. There were cold beers available for sale right by our van. Tip: find a porter and give him a couple bucks and he will whisk you by lines, by scanners and by everything and have you outside in less than 2 minutes and the airport was very busy when we arrived.

We arrived and were greeted with a cold towel and a pina colada within seconds of walking in. Freddy checked us in and soon we were led to our room which was on the 3rd floor with a garden view. We were slightly disappointed as we had hoped to have any kind of view of the pool, boat or ocean as I had requested a month earlier but no big deal. I mentioned to my wife that maybe in a day or 2 we could ask for an upgrade to a different room. But in the meantime Mandy our Butler showed us around and explained how everything worked and as he left I requested Ice and some beer for my cooler. He and Carlos did a fine job taking care of our needs.

That first night we walked around and looked at the gym and had several drinks and ordered some sandwiches from room service as we hadnt eaten all day. They were very good. Then we relaxed for awhile and dozed off for less than an hr as travel day is very long for us. We showered and learned that the 7pm reservations we had requested all week were actually all for 9 instead. Not a big deal but a couple days later in mentioning it to Melissa they were changed for 7 the rest of the week which was very nice. We went down on the boat and had a couple more drinks before dinner and relaxed until it was time to eat at the surfnturf restaurant. Excellent ribeye steaks, we were both very satisfied. After that it was off to our room to watch the Tigers on the Ipad as my wife had ordered MLB app for the week. lol. Very devoted Tigers fans. Well the game was about over so a couple more drinks and it was time for bed.

The next day we were up bright and early and went to the gym and used the equipment for 45 minutes. Very nice gym with an awesome view of the ocean and grounds. I never caught his name but the star guy working the gym was very nice and remembered us all week as we seen him everywhere we went and always had a smile on his face which in turn made us smile. After a shower and breakfast it was off to our most important and favorite part of the vacation. The Beach! This is where we would spend most of our days from around 9 until 2 to 4 in the afternoon. Lots of drinks and many cool swims in the ocean all week long. The wife found a cabana on 1 day and hung out at the pool as she liked it there too.

Well as luck would have it we had an issue with our room and before we could get a chance to upgrade we were given an ocean front room that had excellent airconditioning and even better views so a little bit of bad luck actually turned into a nice surprise. Again Melissa took care of us promptly and more than made up for things in our opinion.

So the rest of the week as I mentioned was spent on the beach and having some drinks and eating wonderful food and enjoying the very hot sun. We got to know Boom Boom and Winston very well from the star team. Boom Boom loved talking Tigers with us and Winston just couldnt understand why I didnt want to shoot the airrifle everyday . I tried to explain I only shot deer and small game with guns and not targets lol. It was a daily ritual. One day my wife signed me up for a FREE 10 minute massage at noon and it was HEAVEN if not short. I gladly left her a $5 tip. You must do this, it is well worth it. Most every day they do this.

So on the 3rd day I mentioned we were given a much nicer room and our new Butler was Adelsko and complimented by Alphonso and Alexander and we were very impressed with them. My basic request daily was ice and some beers for my cooler which I kept in the bathroon sink because it leaked. A couple times the cooler didnt get found but ice was left in the room container so no big deal there. I drank Brahma lite, El Presidentes and Bud for my choices of beer. And many many Long islands, crown and cokes and strawberry Daquiris and the wife had too many kinds to mention but I do remember her getting Blended Kahluas and Miami vices several times. One night after dinner we were pleasantly surprised, Adelsko had drawn us a bubble bath complete with rose petals and a bottle of champagne so in we went after some pics and we watched the Tigers on the Ipad. lol. They won!

Sadly I have to say we never got a chance to visit any of the shows as we were always tired by 10 so we were in bed most nights by then. We did eat at the surfnturf again and this time had filet mignon which was absolutely out of this world!! Might be the first time Ive ever had it as I am a ribeye guy. Wow it was delcious. We also ate at the gourmet and it was good but not as good as the surfnturf. Our other dinner was at the Japanese restaurant but as I wasnt feeling well that night we never made it there so cant comment on it. As I recall too many Daquiris in my bubba keg lol.

The grounds are so beautiful as many have commented on it and also everyone is so friendly I cant believe it. We took $120 dollar bills and used every last 1 of them. They all deserve it and we had no problem with it. Juan at the pool bar kept my drinks cold and delicious all week, although there was that one morning when I ordered double long islands, lol. Had to stop by noon and take a nappy.

Our last day snuck up on us so fast like they always do and they called the night before at the front desk to confirm our transfer times and also print our airline tickets which saved us a lot of time at the airport! This is a must! We had our last few drinks and wandered around and got some last minute pics and tried to get in one last time at the surfnturf for a steak lol. We didnt make reservations on the last night as I thought we would go to another resort but they were booked up. So we went to the buffet and had a nice dinner there. I also want to mention the lunch buffet by the water had great lunch options with endless varieties from lobster, steaks, burgers, chicken and much more.

In conclusion we had a wonderful time. Sure there were a couple "opportunities" as with any vacation but they were quickly corrected to our satisfaction and we will definitely be returning sometime in the future. One thing I would caution on is the vendors down off the property on the beach are relentless. They all basically have the same stuff and they literally pull you into their shops so you probably can visit the first 3-4 and be good. You can dicker and get your price but we made the mistake of visiting them all. Wow I learned my lesson on that one. Other than that our vacation was one for the ages.
