“Never sadder to leave a resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Just returned from a 10-day stay at this paradise resort from 8/8-8/17. I'll summarize for you the good and the bad:

The GOOD-
Grounds- Extraordinary clean and beautiful- the landscape crew is always busy and do a superb job. Not one piece of dirt or trash seems to be anywhere in sight. No bugs either!

Rooms- Well maintained, immaculately clean, most comfortable beds and pillows, excellent A/C, marble bathrooms with huge shower with wonderfully good water pressure rainforest head. We had two top-floor, perfect ocean view rooms that were superb- 7316 and 7318.

Food- we found all the food excellent from the buffets to the specialty restaurants. My family of four ( two adult daughters in their early 20's and my husband and me) favored the filet mignon at the Surf and Turf and the lobster thermidor at the Gourmet.

Pool and Beach-both beautiful. We went at the perfect time of the summer as we were able to easily get two pool beds as well as two lounges near the pool and two lounges in the water at the pool. Not crowded at all. The beach had plenty of empty palapas ( shaded thatched huts over lounge chairs). There were shaded areas all day long which meant no need to run down and secure seats with towels, books, or suntan lotion at 7 in the morning. A nice difference from other Caribbean resorts that we have visited.

Entertainment- good nightly shows at 10- the Star Friends put on great shows!

Staff- okay, I could probably write a book about the staff. They are , by far, the nicest, most happy people I have ever encountered from the management to the reception folks to the crew that keeps the grounds spotless and they are like that among themselves, not only to guests. They work hard and are so appreciative of a kind word, a smiling hello, and of course, a gratuity. We were more than happy to tip the staff here as they never seemed to expect it nor to treat non-tipping guests ( and we noticed quite a few) any differently than the big tippers.

Special recognition for: management staff- Melissa and Candy, dining room staff- Viglio, Ramon and Keyla; pool concierge- Jhoenmy and pool server, Leticia: Butlers- Lagua, Jose, and Jason and of course entertainer extraordinaire- Boom-Boom ( in the house) who danced me to near exhaustion on Chill -out night at the ship!!! :) The reception staff were all great also!

Now for The BAD- You have to leave this paradise and return to reality! That's the only bad I can say about this resort!

AIRPORT- Tip regarding the airport- dress in cool clothes as the airport lacks A/C and we had to de-plane and wait on the hot tarmac before walking to the arrival section and then standing in a long customs line inside in the heat. Buy the $10 entrance fee online and cut down some on the line through customs.

Questions welcomed and I have tons of photos that I will gladly share with anyone interested.

Room Tip: We had two ocean view rooms, 7316 and 7318 which were great as they were on the opposite side of the...

This is our 3rd year and 3rd resort. Previously stayed at Now Larimar, and the Majestic Elegance and this year the Iberostar Grand. We will be back to this resort next year for sure! It's a bit more expensive but worth every penny and the difference is amazing. As soon as we arrive we were handed a cool, refreshing towel that smelt heavenly. As we checked in we were offered a glass of champagne in a real glass. Not a plastic cup. We were then taken to our room where we were greeted by our butler, Juso. Juso explained everything to us and was absolutely amazing the entire week. Our room was beautiful and well air conditioned. Previously at the other resorts the rooms were cool but seemed muggy and humid. Not here at Iberostar. They had a ceiling fan in the room which was nice. The beds were by far much better than the other resorts beds. They were much softer and much better quality mattresses. The facility was beautiful and so luxurious. We had a huge balcony and a rain shower head, jacuzzi garden tub and they even have shampoo and conditioner for you. Amble towels and wash cloths as well. The mini fridge was stocked with beer and soft drinks and our butler would stock it with your preference. The pool was amazing. The chairs and cabana beds were clean and comfy. And so nice to be able to close the cabana curtains for extra shade if needed. The pool waiters and staff were so friendly. Shout out to Mayorjix and 'Lady'! To the swim up bartender Julio Ceasar! The drinks are well made and given in nice real size plastic glasses instead of just cheap small plastic cups like at other resorts. Me and my friend took our own tervis tumblers so we would have insulated cups and this was a great things. Stays colder longer and they were happy to fill it up for us. The beach was beautiful and clean and plenty of chairs and huts to sit under. The entire resort was so breezy. Everywhere you walked there was a great breeze from the ocean. Even in the lobby. One thing I really liked was that the restaurants were all well air conditioned. At the previous resorts they all seemed to have the restaurants semi cool. But I am from the south and do not like to be hot while eating. I enjoy my AC. All of the restaurants were excellent. All of the food was excellent. They would cook lobster and steak for you at the Buffett if you wanted it on seafood night and even some days at the lunch Buffett. Every single staff person was extremely friendly and accommodating. I have to give a special shout out to Lely, Smeldin, Ery, Antonio, and
Raul! They were all very friendly and would always make a point to speak and make you feel great! Iberostar Grand is by far the nicest place I've ever stayed. It was a pleasure and there wasn't one single thing to complain about. Loved it and can't wait to go back next year!!!

Our travel agent at AAA suggested looking at this hotel after we decided to try an adults only all-inclusive, our first time for this type of accommodation. Due to excellent ratings, we agreed and have absolutely no regrets. As one reviewer noted, it is the staff that makes this place special. We were warmly greeted many times a day, by all workers at this hotel and really enjoyed seeing the same friendly faces throughout the day.
The room was fairly spacious and most comfortable with some wonderful amenities including an awesome shower head, a jet tub next to a large window with electric shades, and a lovely balcony with a soft sofa. We had one or two minor maintenance problems which were seen to immediately, and with a smile and apologies for the problem.
We thought the food was very good and varied. At the breakfast buffet there were made to order eggs and omelets, many meats, ( hot and cold), cheeses, fruits, cereals, various breakfast sandwiches, fish, hot roasted veggies and sausages, waffles, crepes, bagels, pancakes, breads, yogurts, fresh fried donuts, croissants and bite sized breakfast pastries, and on and on. (The reviewer who noted that the buffets were boring after a few days, must have had a very limited palate - I cannot imagine what breakfast food she was hankering for that was not there)
The lunch buffet was also vast and did vary somewhat from day to day. Some days you could have cooked to order steaks and lobster tail, and there was always a pasta of the day, pizza, salads, fish, a variety of vegetables, rices, meats, soup, taco or nacho makings, cheeses, breads, etc. as well as a variety of little desserts, ice cream, and fresh fruits. Of our seven evenings there we ate at the buffet twice and the a al carte restaurants 5 times. All the a la carte restaurants were very good, as was the incredibly array of foods at the buffets. Presentation, quality, variety of foods was all top notch in both the buffets and the restaurants.
The pools and beach areas were lovely and we never had trouble getting the lounge in our chosen areas. (In August we were told the occupancy was down - maybe 50%, and we appreciated the relative quiet of the resort)
We went to the evening shows 4 of the 7 nights and thoroughly enjoyed each. We were surprised they were not better attended, but I guess that is a matter of personal preference.

The only disappointment for me was that the snorkeling off the beach was not good and I had my hopes high for some good snorkeling. The brochure in the room said that snorkel excursions were included and I could never find any such amenity. We went to two sites for the water sports area personnel and all we were offered were a variety of increasingly expensive excursions that included SOME snorkeling. When I mentioned use of equipment, one fellow glossed over the question and said, yes, you can get equipment for an hour and changed the subject. I should point out that this was not the hotel concierge but a company the hotel apparently uses called Dressel Divers.

One last thing: We did choose to tip and noted that this was highly variable. We sometimes saw others leaving something or handing a server a tip but it was not universal or consistent at all. When we did give servers a tip, they were truly gracious and grateful.

Note to resort: Although the shuttle was free, the trip to the San Juan mall was a great disappointment. While there were some local shops, it is very much an American Outlet Mall and not at all what I was hoping for. On the other hand, the Palma Real mall, with very nice shops and also restaurants if one wanted, was a $40 round trip taxi ride but much nicer and enticing. Maybe an arrangement for a side trip here would be considered.

Room Tip: It is all a matter of preference. We happened to have a standard room on the west side of the hotel...

This is my 3rd visit to THE IBEROSTAR GRAND BAVARO but first time solo. Although mostly a couples resort, if you want to rest and be pampered in a well run luxury resort, this is the place to go.
It is simply the best in Punta Cana. What a welcome relief to be at a luxury resort that really knows what service is about. Beautiful rooms, great service, outstanding grounds and SUPER CLEAN.
Food is above the usual 5 star hotels.
Bottom line, I feel at home at this beautiful resort and plan on returning.

Room Tip: 3rd or 4th floor

Beautiful hotel, lovely rooms, gorgeous grounds, great food, exellent service. Do not miss !!!!! I have stayed in many 5 star hotels, The Ritz Carlton, The Four Seasons......This hotel definitely compares !! After arriving from a week having stayed in Dreams La Romana, the Iberostar was a welcome relief. I hated to leave and had wished we had stayed here for the entire vacation.

My husband and I stayed at this beautiful resort from August 4 - 10. Although we were disappointed with the check in and not being able to get the room we wanted Juan did his best to accommodate us. We had asked for an ocean view and were given a view of the resort next door. We were not able to get to our room until 3:30 but were given sincere apologies for the delay. Juan promised us he would have a room with a better view the next day and we were moved to the other side of the resort by 5 pm on Monday. We stayed just above the party boat which gave us a partial ocean view. As for the butler service I'm not quite sure what they do because other than the first 5 minutes of our stay where he booked our restaurants we never saw another butler again. It could be because we did switch rooms.

The rooms are very nice and very clean. Janet our maid did an outstanding job of supplying us with enough towels and leaving our room spotless. I always bring gifts from home to leave them on the pillow along with a tip because they do work hard and for little money. I usually bring school supplies and nail polish and some lipsticks.

The resort is immaculate. They are always cleaning and have scented tarts in the halls to always make sure the hallways smell fresh.

We stayed by the beach In the morning and would move to the pool in the afternoon. There were plenty of papalas and cabanas that we never felt the need to have to save them. The bar staff were always coming around to offer us drinks or water. They were always so kind and cheerful. I wish I knew all their names but I can only remember Maliexa by the pool who was such a sweetheart. They never ask for tips or expect one but are so thankful when you do. The service is the same either way but for the amount of hours they are outside in the sun they deserve the tips.

There were plenty of activities which was good for my husband because he cant sit still too long. The Star Friends go above and beyond to make sure you are having a good time and don't force you into doing any activity if you don't want to. A special thanks to Ricardo, Winston, Margarita, Tommy, Boom Boom, and Elias for their dedication and hard work. They made us feel so welcome and always took the time to talk with us in between all the activities.

We were only able to eat at the Japanese and Italian restaurants which were both very good. We couldn't get reservations to the Gourmet. The food at the Buffet was delicious every time we ate there. There was always a variety and high quality. A special thank you to Angel who took special care of us at lunch and dinner. He always knew our drinks and coffee orders without us having to ask. Again please tip them because many of them work 18 hour days and are never without a smile.

We have stayed at many all inclusives and Iberostar is hard to beat. This is our third Iberostar resort we have stayed at and have never been disappointed in any of our locations. The only complaint we would have is the difficulty in getting a reservation when the resort was only filled to 50 % capacity and the fact that we had to wait one day to get a room we requested when again the resort was not filled. We hope to return again in the near future!
