Resort was beautiful and the grounds were kept really nice. The entrance is very impressive and you know that you have arrived to the grandest hotel in Punta Cana. The beach was beautiful and there is no seaweed on the beach like in other places in DR. The water is a very beautiful blue. The natural palm trees on the beach are an additional plus. This is why they call this part of the DR the Coconut Coast. Plenty of thatched huts and chairs, however we were staying at the hotel during peak time, it was difficult to find chairs at the beach and the pool. You needed to get up early to reserve your spot and the hotel was not good at enforcing the no reserving rule. Cabanas were around the pool and in the garden next to the beach but again you had to get up early to get one of these.
Rooms were large, beautifully decorated and we had a room in the last building close to the beach.(requested ahead of time) The resort is not spread out too much so walking around is not that difficult. Each building had a concierge. We met him right after we arrived at our room and never saw him again. He had a desk near the elevator but it was emplty every time we walked by over the next 4 days. Minibar - stocked with beer, wine and soft drinks and several mini bottles of liquor (supposed to be stocked daily). One day is was not restocked. I asked and they said that staff was gone for the day. The spa looked really nice as well, however we did not utilize the services but it was reasonably priced.
The food was very good, they actually served lobster tail that you could have grilled to order for lunch and dinner. Although the food was good, it still was not the quality or variety that you might receive vacationing in Mexico. They did have top shop liquor, just be sure to request it if you are not offered it first.(Goose, Bud...) We were not as impressed with the speciality restaurants as we have been in other destinations that we have stayed. The staff is not as friendly as we have seen in parts of Mexico.
The shows were first rate with a professional theatre to accompany them (very nice stage, lighting and sound). Several nights had 15+ performers. The hotel had very talented staff and they were enjoyable to see. Also the entertainment is not obnoxious during the day like other places, it stays quiet through the day to enjoy the pool and beach. Our favorite spot was the ship in the lagoon that housed a bar and disco late at night.
We have stayed at 5 different all inclusives. Overall, a great great location, with a great beach and attentive staff. Very enjoyable experience. In my opinion Iberostar is comparable with Secret's. In some ways they are above Secret's in some ways the same, some ways a little below.
