Just got back yesterday from a 1 week vacation at the BP, Ambar in Punta Cana. I had not been to the DR in about 12 years, and I must say that I was quite impressed with this facility and especially their staff. EVERYBODY went out of their way to help us, serve us, guide us and made our stay most enjoyable. Hats off to all the personnel. The guys at the Ambar Beach bar, including Kelvin, Maximo, Confessor, Leno and Victor are always singing and smilining as they mix your favorite drink and serve it to you. We 'booked' a Palapa right by their bar and had a great week, just chilling on the beach. Unfortunately, it was too windy (heavy seas) to do any watersports on Bavaro Beach, so I ended up going to Catalina / Bayahibe for my scuba diving fix. The restaurants were all quite good but the staff, food and presentation at the Don Pablo was were outstanding. The spectacular seafood buffet on Tuesday nite, with all the personnel greeting us as the restaurant opened was quite a sight. Overall, I give the BP Ambar a 9 out of 10. My only beef with mgm't was that I sent them two e-mails plus the original travel agent request for room selections as we were a party of five. My e-mails were never answered and my room selections were not fulfilled. Kind of disappointing for a hotel that has a five star rating and a large staff. I know they'll probably reply saying that they cannot possibly comply with all room requests but their website states that they do take requests for room selections. The catch is that you have to reserve your rooms thru their website, not thru a travel agent. It made us feel like we were second class customers... An e-mail acknowledgement, even if it was automatic, would have been appreciated. So easy to set up.... Thankfully, our rooms were OK.
On a positive note, I would still recommend this hotel for the value we got once we were on site.
