“Very Nice!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

My husband and I just traveled to Punta Cana over the Labor Day weekend and it was amazing. The resort was gorgeous and the beach was amazing. Adrian at reception was very helpful and Rafael, the bartender, was even better. He made us feel welcomed and even remembered our names when we came back for more drinks. Manuel helped us with our bags and made sure that we were checked into our room and that everything was up to par. He even made sure that the beer would keep coming. Maria was a great housekeeper and even with the language barrier she made sure that our room was well stocked and clean. We had a small problem with our first room. The bathroom was not working but with the help of Louis he did his best to find us another room and made sure it was up to our standards. This vacation was too short but in the time that we were here we had an amazing time. If you have a chance to go to the restaurants definitely go to the Garden Grill which is the steak house restaurant. The food was so good there. Make sure you make your reservations as soon as you check in. Everyone was so nice and helpful and am glad that we chose this resort for our stay.

Room Tip: Don't upgrade until you get there and if possible try and get the rooms that are closer to the b...

I stayed at the Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana resort recently, and it was a pretty good getaway for me. I had mixed feelings about the resort when i first arrived, but by the end, it ended up not being such a bad experience. Some goods, some bads, but all-in-all, enjoyable.

The Good: Beach was probably the best beach I've ever been to. Not only was it nice-looking, but it was clean, the sand felt great, the water was warm and not too wavy, and the turquoise coloring of the water made it my favorite. The food was also very good. Even though the main buffet food was similar each night (as they have themed nights), the a la carte restaurants were able to cover that up. The "Garden Grill" Steakhouse and the "Maiko" Japanese Restaurants were probably the best of all the restaurants at the resort. The staff is nice and friendly for the most part though some seemed a little bored/annoyed **cough**bartenders**cough**. The snack bars by the main pool and beach were great and very convenient for a quick eat while me and my family were at the beach/pool. The rooms were pretty standard. Nothing much more or less that you would/wouldn't see at another resort. Maid service was also nice. After seeing reviews about stuff gone missing in the room, i was a little worried, but they ended up being very accommodating. I also found out that most of the staff in the hotel switched around jobs throughout the day, so maids by day were waiters at night, and waiters at one place were waiters at another place, as well as bartenders and different bars. That was interesting. Since it is a big resort, it is a bit of a walk (about 3/4 of a mile) between the beach and the lobby, but it is a nice walk with nice trees and other scenery. They have a tram system too if you don't want to walk so far. On the opposite side of the lobby, near the entrance, you have some good kids activities like a mini-water park and mini-golf, as well as a sports center with archery, tennis, and basketball. So it was great for a family of two adults, one kid and two teens. The water park seemed to be for smaller children, so the two teenagers didn't seem to enjoy it and instead went for archery or mini-golf. For the most part, the resort was great.

The Bad: Entertainment was pretty weak. Some of the nightly shows were good, while others were horrendous. I'd say the circus show and international dance were the best, while others like the grammy and the musical dance shows weren't as good. Those were the shows in the "Tropicana" Theater. At the "Pueblo Principe" theater, the place with all the shops, the shows were even worse. The comedy show they put on is weak, as it is a weak attempt at being "raunchy". Though funny at times, the entertainment team could do a lot better. Bring bug spray to those shows as well, as mosquitoes will bite. The pool was also pretty crowded by day and overly warm, about the same temperature as the ocean, if not warmer. The bridges across the pools are also a bit of a logic flaw, which makes it hard for people in flip-flops/sandals (like me) to walk across. At the beach, it is hard to find shade if you arent thereby 8:00 AM putting a towel on your chair(s) to reserve them, (though technically you are not allowed to). The tram system also is not so sturdy, there are three trams per "avenue" and only one moves at a time. Two are at the ends at the resort (the lobby and the beach) waiting for the moving one to come so they can move their tram. I did not understand that process.

In the end, the resort was great overall, food, service, and activity-wise, but entertainment and other things could have been improved for a good stay.

Room Tip: Having a room near the lobby is good if you want fast access to most of the restaurants. There are e...

My husband and I were really impressed with the food. We didn't get a chance to try the sit down restaurants because when we got there, there were only two available for reservations. All of the others were booked solid. I thought this wasn't right since we tried to make the reservations right when we got there. Anyway, the buffet was delicious. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everything was fresh, there was such a huge variety of food you cant possibly try everything offered. Each night had a different theme e.g. Chinese, American, Dominican Republic, etc. As for the cocktails, this place did not dilute their alcohol, like some people say about all-inclusives. We aren't lightweights either, the drinks were really good. The bartenders will make you anything you want. they have a full bar. As for the room, the a/c never could keep the room cold. I don't like the room that cold anyway, so this shouldn't have been an issue, but it was. The mattresses were not comfy at all, kinda saggy. The bead spread was old and gross. The "mini bar" had two cans of beer and assorted sodas. The fridge wasn't very cold either. We did get a liter bottle of water every day for free so that was good. The lighting in the room was very dim, even with all of the lights on. On a side note, when you go for your shuttle to the hotel, if you get one thru cheap carribbean.com, do not accept any offers for a "free" party and tour of a new hotel off site. This is a scam for a time share. They want you to leave them a $35 deposit that you will get back as long as you go to the time share presentation. We were stupid enough to think this was going to be a fun"party" but later we realized we were duped. We did get our money back eventually and the salesman was pissed because we already own a time share and weren't interested in getting another one. The beach was perfect, there were plenty of lounge chairs. They have a bar right on the beach so getting free drinks wasn't that hard. They have people that rake the weeds from the sand so the beach is always clean. We might try another all-inclusive again, but we still enjoy cruises more.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the junior deluxe suite. You will get concierge service that is a little better than fro...

I stayed here through March, and I absolutely enjoyed myself. The rooms were spotless, along wit the entire resort. Everyone seemed to be always cleaning and making sure everything was in tip top shape. The food was exceptional and probably some of the best food I've ever eaten. The beach was clean and very nice. The only issue I had with the location is that there was not much to see in the waters in front of the resort in terms of fish or coral. But I would definitely go back in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Try for a room away from the beach, but not too far as it can get loud by the beach and pools during...

This was my first trip abroad, My wife has travelled before but WOW what an experience i was bit bad by the travel bug. The resort was nothing like we expected it was a LOT MORE i cant explain haw beautiful the resort is and we will be returning as soon as possible. The people were very friendly and i would like to thank Kenia and Yoana from reception also a Wanda from the bar these three ladies made the holiday so enjoyable and could not do enough for us. The resort was astounding and did not have to walk far to get anywhere as transport was available to take you to various parts of the resort. The beach was so clean with white sand and emerald sea, drinks and food were available on the beach. The restaurants were so clean and the food was outstanding with plenty of choice, the cleaning staff were very polite and very helpful, the grounds were kept immaculate and were very green, the only fault i had was that the mosquitos dined on me most of the time and invited most of their friends, but it was worth the bites. Gain a big hello to everyone there and cant wait to revisit

We had 2 adjoining rooms on the ground floor in our villa near the pool and beach. Great location. Had problem with the key lock in one room all week -- was locked out the first night until 10 pm.

Food was fantastic at the buffet -- good variety everyone in the family always has something they liked.

Be sure to get to the pool early as the chairs get occupied by towels early in the day so it is hard to find chairs together for a family of 6.

Room Tip: Get one as close to the pool/beach as possible

I was at the Grand Bahia Principe Punta Cana from July 31st through August 7th. This was my second time there. The experience was wonderful. I upgraded to the Golden Club. The rooms were ver nice, close to the pool and beach. The employees at the Golden Club were the best. They did everything they could to accommodate your wants and needs. I especially would like to thank the manager Omaira García. She was the best in making sure that our vacation was the best.
