“Best Vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

My boyfriend and I stayed at this resort for a week in October 2012. The resort was beautiful, the service was amazing and the staff was beyond friendly! The food was ok but that was just because it was different from home but they had champagne so that made up for it! The pool and beach were great with lots of activities provided, such as water aerobics in the pool and we were easily able to find excursions through the resort - we did para-sailing - awesome! We had a great experience and look forward to returning to this resort in the future!

Room Tip: We stayed in Villa 2 that was the closest to the beach/end pool. We really loved this locaion becaus...

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

Our fourth time back and we brought my parents (75 and 71) for their first all inclusive, and the first time dad has been out of North America. Airport transfer was smooth and so was check in. We knew we would have to wait for our rooms so we went to the main buffet after our welcome pina colada, and had lunch. My parents did have a problem with their keys, the maid let them in, but it did take a couple of maintenance visits to get the cards to work properly, and that was the only issue.

I did request adjoining rooms, and I was specific on a selection of room numbers I wanted, and we did book six months in advance, but it was not done. We were in the building I requested, but on the second floor, and my parents were at the back of the building. I do realize that the resort is full or almost full at this time of year, but as we are repeat guests, bringing more people with us, I would have hoped that there would have been more effort in meeting our requests, some of which were for medical reasons, which I did state when I sent the email.

I think it is amazing that the staff remember that you have been there before and that they recognize you after they see thousands of people every year. Jahiro and Santos do an amazing job all night at the late night snack bar. We are there early for coffee and we get to see all the people who have stayed up all night and closed the resort. Santo from the beach grill last year is now at the beach bar and always had a smile and a fist bump every time he walked by. Aracelis did a beautiful job keeping our room clean and there was always beautiful towel art. On Valentine's day she had put a couple of chocolates on our bed and covered it with rose pedals. The first year we were there we met her and she remembered us. She's a beautiful lady. Roxana and Roxanne (?) (young pregnant lady in the main buffet) took special care of us as well as Jose and a few others in the buffet. They are always quick to keep your coffee cup full, your dirty plates taken away and your other drinks full.

Yes, this is a large resort, but the shuttles are there and they run all the time, and each time you think of it as an adventure. You see beautiful property, you smile at the workers, and you get to meet new people each time you take the shuttle.

Yes, the drinks are plentiful, the staff are wonderful, the rooms are clean, the resort is immaculate. Most of the guests appear to be respectful, but there are always a few bad apples in the bunch. The rudeness really comes when people assign their loungers but don't use them until late in the afternoon. We choose our seats early in the morning, but we use them all day.

We did take the quick excursion to Nicole's which is a great place to get Amber, Larimar and Coral set in gold and silver. There is also a souvenier shop upstairs and a cigar store downstairs. It's only a 15 minute shuttle to get there and you have about an hour to shop, very well organized.

We were offered to see the Premiere/Luxury Club, but no one was pushy about it. We like building 1.

The new Scout Water Park at the front of the resort looks like great fun for the kids, but they did still do inflatables for the kids in the main pool, like they have every year.

We do find that a lot of people from Esmerelda and Ambar come over to the bigger pool in the middle, but we have only seen their pools and they appear to be very sedate, quiet and boring.

My parents walked the beach twice every day, had no problem with any hawkers and peddlers. We did go to the shopping on Friday night behind the Punta Cana lobby, but it was many tables of the same jewellery and small souvenirs, we really didn't spend much time there. We did do some shopping in the plaza at the front of the resort.

If I can help answer any questions, I will gladly do so, but Brooklyn is the expert.

first all inclusive experience for us after 12 years of cruising .
moved after 1st nite as room had a musty smell.
room was nice clean but dated.
grounds , pools, and beach beautiful.
hard to get around, resort is massive. trains were either full or going the wrong direction.
food services poor . took us 5 days to get a hot meal ( at a specialty restuarant )
sick of buffets after 2 days. un able to get coffee with meal at main dineing room.
unable to get creme with your coffee.
pool and beach closed at 6 pm
entertainment1 show / nite - amaturist, no niteclub, no entertainment staff.
language barrier - guests speak english but few staff do.
staff were friendly and helpful

in general - nice place to go to lay on beach / pool areas and read a book.
not much to do and nowhere to go.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

Just returned from 10 days at the Gran Bahia Punta Cana. Wonderful resort. I have been to Punta Cana 4 times and have also travelled to Mexico and Cuba. I have stayed in 3.5 stars up to 5 stars. This resort, hands down, has the best service out of all resorts I have travelled to. Always smiling, always friendly. The reason I feel they had the best service is because they did things without having to be asked. I gave them my bubba keg in the morning and they rinsed it out, if I was at the swim up bar I was given a drink before my last one was done. When we checked in Rangu saw that our group had two rooms booked and without being asked started looking for adjoining rooms for us. They sugested things to us when we looked confused. When sitting in the lobby we would randomly be approached just to see how our stay was and what they could do to make it better. This may seem like obvious things to do but I have never been so looked after at an all inclusive. The buffet food was great, I have a wheat intolerance (not celiacs) and I found enough variety everyday. We spent most of our time at the Punta Cana pool and never had an issue finding chairs or a palapa and the bar service was great, Wilson was awesome! We did not spend any time at the Pool near the beach, it was very crowded and noisy for what we were looking for, but if you want a party that was the place to be. Lots of young people around the bar area. The beach was more difficult to find a palapa but we were always able to find a seat. The kids pool with slides was pretty cool. Parents cannot go down the slides with the kids so keep in mind if your children are younger. The only drawback that I could say about this resort is the size of it. It is very large, and the resort has bus trolly type things that run all day and into the night but there is still a lot of walking to be done.

From the moment we arrived the service was sensational. The staff at the front desk were so kind, friendly, and very helpful. Put us in a great state of mind. The one staff member Rangui was exceptional. His smile lights up a room. He made sure we very comfortable when we arrived. Also, Kenia was very helpful as well. Such a pretty smile.

Beautiful resort, great beaches, beach volleyball every day.

We will be back.

In our opinion we had one of the best rooms on the resort with ocean view, pool side, and bus stop at our door. Villa #1 room 1201. Great beaches! Very wide selection of food, favorite restaurants were Garden Grill and Mediterrian and Mexican. Internet in the lobby worked great! Will be returning very soon.
