“Best resort in Punta Cana”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

My friend and I stayed here for a week and had an unforgettable trip. Everything about the resort was amazing and even better than expected. The entertainers made everyday awesome and one in particular named Obama was very funny and charming especially when he dressed up in costumes like Batman. I would without a doubt recommend you stay here. My only regret is not staying longer.

We stayed at the Hard Rock, Punta Cana Aug. 11-16 with our 3 children ages 11, 14, and 15. We arrived at 12:30 and they wouldn't let us check in until 3:00. We ate lunch and then had a 1:30 meeting with a vacation planner, who informed us of the Resort credits and the excursions and scheduled us for a VIP breakfast for the next morning, which we didn't go to, it was a time-share thing. I got back in line 3 times to see if the room is ready and was told it was and they would come get me and every time I went back to ask, I got a different story. The place is HUGE and we NEVER saw anyone else in our building 8B, so not sure how the rooms were not ready. We finally got to our room by around 4pm. We had a family suite and it was really nice. We did have maid service every day and plenty of towels. The maids smiled a lot but didn't speak any English. The food was just average. I did have lobster one night but it was just so-so. The drinks were plenty but totally watered down. The kids loved the ice cream place and went there often! I enjoyed the coffee place. My husband and I had massages and they were wonderful. The shopping was not good, Im a HUGE shopper! The credit gift shop was full of extremely overpriced junk that you would find in a dollar store! They had some beautiful shops with Michael Kors, etc. but they were triple the price of the USA. The trolley service was good, but the fumes from the trolley were horrible to breath in. There wasn't anything for our kids to do at night except dinner an ice cream. The beach was paradise. We felt like we weren't treated very friendly because we don't speak Spanish. There was one cook in Torro for the lunch buffet that was cooking different meats on the grill. I was next in line and was asking for grilled chicken. I called, "Excuse me," 3 times and he didn't even look at me. He then began talking in Spanish to a woman and laughing and took the small piece of steak off her plate and gave her a big one, all while ignoring me. He was very rude! We tipped VERY well and honestly it didn't seem to matter, some were nice and some not so nice. There were two girls at the lunch/dinner at Torro, who were VERY sweet to us, sorry I don't know their names. We got a phone call our first morning there and the person said something like, you have a call from your mother and them said, oh is this room, blah, blah, blah and we said no, and she said sorry and then began to ask us how things were and if we were coming to the VIP breakfast. We were VERY upset about that. She really scared us, we thought something was wrong with our family back home, not cool! All in all, the resort was beautiful, the food was average, and if you don't speak Spanish, you may feel frustrated.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less insects

Dear Lisa l, thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We’re terribly sorry to read that you arrived long before our check in time which is indeed at 3:00 pm but it’s good to read that you were able to eat lunch and plan your excursions while you waited. On the other hand we are glad that you liked your room and that you didn’t have any inconveniences with housekeeping. Our team members are the key to our continued success and we are taking much care to emphasize the importance of their role to you, our Rock Star. We will pass along the comments you've provided to our Quality Manager so thank you. Be sure to give us another try once your travels bring you back to Punta Cana. TAKE TIME TO BE KIND.

This resort was excellent! The food, service, cleanliness, everything was great. During check in Jonathan Mejia helped us during check in. He made our welcome very pleasant. The service in the restaurants were great, everybody was very welcoming. This is our second time in this resort and I would definitely come back!

Room Tip: We occupied Building 4 Presidential suite. It was quite and nice view.

My wife and I spent July 21 - 28th at the Hard Rock Hotel. We arrived after a 35 minute shuttle on Blue transfer from the airport. Hopefully the under construction highway will be completed next year or 2 and the drive should be cut in half.
Check in was done in about 10 minutes, if that. We just had to wait about 10 minutes in line at the members check in. We were ready to check in at the front desk when they figured out we were members and then told us to go to the members check in about 40 yards away and then we had to get in line. What's the difference where you check us in, just get it done. This is done at all Palace and Hard Rock resorts. Really no difference in treatment....just a small inconvenience.
We left our baggage with the porters and after check in we were given a map and shown where our room was at. Being Palace Premier members we were given building 5, 3rd floor facing the pool. Great room and location. Our room was right by the stair well right by were the Presidential rooms are at and noise wasn't an issue with us. We had a Consierge room which is why we had such an excellent location. The room is the same as everyone else. Beautiful is how these rooms are. The bathroom is spacious and the showers (2 shower heads on opposite walls) was huge. The shampoo and body soaps provided were very good. The toilet has its own door for privacy. We loved our room and location. Best buildings in my opinion are 4 & 5, but the adjacent buildings are fine also.
There are shuttles through out the complex with designated areas but the drivers will stop if you wave them down. We more often walked as the resort is a pleasure to walk through whether it be day or night.
The hotels has the biggest lobby I've seen anywhere. It's probably a quarter mile from one end to the other so there is plenty to see, shop, eat and drink. At one end is the sports bar with what seems 100 TV's and then the good size casino with the Oro night club entrance in the casino. At the other end is the conference rooms. In between are stores, 6 places to eat including the Italian, Japanese, Mexican, buffet, pizza, ice cream parlor. There is also 2 bars, the Moon lounge and the Karaoke bar (can't remember name) which provide good enough entertainment that you don't need to spend money at Oro night club. The bartenders were good and the drinks were also good overall. They have top shelf alcohol so ask for your brand and you will get it. I like the fact that the bartenders do their best to serve people on a first come first serve and will let line jumpers wait their turn.
There are about 13 or 14 pools all over the place and all look nice. We spent minimal time there as we are beach people and the beach was OUTSTANDING!! The beach is better than advertised. They are building a break water to calm the waves but if you like waves just walk away from the break water. The further away you go the rougher the waves. We hung around the middle for perfect waves. Oh, I forgot to mention the water is that beautiful turquoise color with no rocks, just soft white sand. If you want shade you will need to place towels to reserve palapas (palm umbrellas) personal items work best. Reserve them by 9 a.m. or they'll be gone. If you just want a tanning/lounge chair will be easier to find. Peak hours when seating is occupied is between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. after 3 seating opens up.
Our favorite restaurants were Japanese, Toro and Brazilian. The Mexican is mostly tacos and Islas buffet. The Italian was average at best. The Japanese Hibachi was great as was the Toro.
For breakfast the Toro and Islas are both on the beach and are good.
Our maid service was good and I made sure I would leave them a tip everyday. There is turndown service every day as well. Fridge was well stocked.
The only negative was the service at the restaurants could be better. Sometimes you coffee and water won't arrive until you food does or you will not see the server again for refills which means you have to go get it yourself. This was pretty consistent in all restaurants with the exception of Toro, Brazilian and Japanese for dinner only.
Overall I would recommend this resort and next time I will spend more than a week there.
Oro night club is beautiful but they shouldn't charge H.R. guest $15 to enter and make them pay for drinks which are not cheap at all, 4 waters 1 Corona, 2 Absolutes and Cranberry = $51.
The DJ was very good and the sound system is second to non as is the décor...very cool looking.
The airport is another adventure, especially when leaving. Make sure you take water with you from the hotel when headed to you flight as there are no stores to buy water until you get through immigration which can take well over an hour or two. I recommend you take an extra hour from the time you leave the hotel until your plane departs. The airport is chaotic....and I'm being nice.

This was our first visit to the Dominican Republic. We chose the Hard Rock based on other reviews and friend's experiences. We traveled with 3 other families. It is a very LARGE resort so be prepared to do a lot of walking (there are trams that you can ride too). We were in Building 6 which was close to the Main Lobby, the Casino, stores and restaurants. It took about 10 minutes to walk to the pools and beach. The room we reserved was a Family Caribbean Suite which was a room with 2 double beds, bar, dining room area connected by sliding doors to another room with a King bed. Both rooms had spacious bathrooms and we shared a large terrace overlooking the miniature golf course. The room was very clean. The beach was absolutely beautiful! There are straw huts on the beach with lounge chairs and waitress service. Make sure you tip your servers well because they will keep coming back to serve you! The pools had plenty of space by them too. The restaurants were ok. Breakfast and lunch were served buffet style and had plenty of options. We loved going to Tao for breakfast because they made the best omelets. If you had lunch by the pool, it was typically hamburgers, hot dogs and sides. Our favorite place for dinner was Zen which was a hibachi style Japanese restaurant. The calamari was delicious!! You definitely left there feeling very full:) Our husbands played golf 2 days and said that it was an okay course. Not very scenic and very hot! The wives thoroughly enjoyed the Rock Spa. It was an incredible experience! When you book a treatment, you also get to use the Sauna, Steam Room, Clay Room and Ice Room. It's like an underground grotto...beautiful! We definitely took advantage of the $1500 resort credit. The guys used it for golf and we used it for the Spa and miniature golf course. If you don't use up your credit, there is a Resort Credit store but I think it had a lot of junk in it. Not worth buying anything there and you have to pay a 16% tax too! They will also try to get you to buy a timeshare property. I was very disappointed in that. We just wanted to enjoy our vacation with friends and they kept calling our room telling us that in order for us to get the credit, we would have to listen to a presentation on the timeshares. Waste of time! We never went and still got the credit. The best excursion was snorkeling with the fish / sharks. You have to drive about 40 minutes away with the tour but my kids agreed that it was the best thing they've ever done! Overall, not sure if I would return to the Hard Rock since I've "been there, done that" but would possibly choose another resort in Punta Cana that was more intimate and would have better cuisine.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2013

As we've stayed here for three weeks then for sure we should be able to give you a full and expert view of this 5 star hotel. How can anyone say a bad word would be our view, it really does stand up to it's status. During our stay we've seen huge corporate events and a Latin Dance weekend event too.

My wife and our three children (5,7 & 9) stayed in a lovely huge suite that we simply loved and the kids especially loved the massive jacuzzi in our room. The house keeping was excellent, every day the maid was in and cleaned to a very high standard. The mini bar was topped up each day, but on a few occasions we needed extras as the kids went through the soft drinks very quickly - these extras were always delivered to us very fast and without question or charge.

Food is important and these guys have something for everyone, all of which at a very high standard and sooooo much choice. The choice of restaurants is excellent, there is no silly maximum times you can visit and the best bit is you don't need to make a reservation. We loved the Brazilian Ipanema the best, probably followed by the Zen Japanese tappenyaki restaurant and we mostly went to the Toro buffet for breakfast. Sophia was an awesome girl who worked in Toro and hugged our kids everyday and knew them by name, she was excellenta! You can get food 24/7.

I was pleasantly surprised by the drinks supplied, all big brands and the wine was lovely, albeit a limited choice, but again not local wine - we had French, Spanish and South American wines, which we enjoyed,

There is a beautifully clean and warm swimming pool for everyone from family pools, to an adult only pool, to loud pools, quiet pools, etc. - anything you could want. There is waitress service around the pools and again we found these ladies to be really lovely and nothing was too much trouble. Even a lazy river to float around in the sun.

Lots of swim up pool bars and far too many places to get cooked snacks from (no complaint!). The guys serving in the swim up bars were also excellent, funny, fast and great at mixing lots of different cocktails. Towels supplied by each pool, which we also used for the beach - changed every day.

We visited the huge hotel beach a few times and found beautiful sands, more hotel bars and warm ocean water. Whilst the waves were big, it wasn't over the top and our kids were all comfortable with it, although we kept a very close eye on them of course.

In other reviews I heard of hassle from the time share people, well we heard NOTHING from them, not even a telephone call. We weren't forced into any meetings to get the resort credit, they were simply just added to our room. Not sure what the fuss is all about.

The spa is amazing, massive and fantastically well run. We used resort credit for this and basically the 16% you end up paying is very cheap.

I used the gym every other day, loads of equipment and machines, within a huge area with lots of other rooms for classes, etc. I never found it busy.

We actually go on holiday to spend time with our kids, but perhaps they don't as they were keen to go along to kids club every now and again. The girls there were again lovely and as they kids wanted to go back, they must have liked them too! Special mention to Zissette who sang in some of the evening shows as well, plus Anabelle, Maria, Raquel and Dayana. A very flexible arrangement which worked anytime of the day, thanks ladies.

The staff have all been extremely warm and friendly, you really couldn't ask for better.

The hotel is spotless too, the millions of staff seem to be non-stop cleaning all the time and there is always a team of guys maintaining the place to keep it in good order. Gardening is also a massive thing, teams of guys are at it all the time. The whole place is immaculate.

The place is massive, but if you don't want to walk then fine, jump own the very frequent shuttles whizzing around the place. We stayed in building 8c and feel we got lucky here, very quiet and close to exactly were we wanted to be.

We loved the sea water streams/rivers flowing through the hotel grounds with lots of fish, birds and turtles to be seen every day.

Any negatives? On other holidays the kids have enjoyed mini disco's and this was never part of any program here. I didnt like having to pay for the top notch mini-golf. The room air con is a little noisy, but I really am trying hard to find negatives here!

Room Tip: We liked building 8c, quiet and close to most things.
