“Wonderful People”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

The People make the place, hands down. Everyone is incredibly friendly and always happy to see you, especially if you're making the attempt to learn the language- which if you do, Spanish Lessons with LG (as in "Life's Good") are available everyday by the pool in a very fun and informal way. LG and Woody are always around keeping things lively by the pool with the daily events and the bartendars emilio (pool swim up bar) and carlos (castle top bar) are always happy to serve you a tasty beverage. Be sure to tip these guys! They work hard and are fantastic people! Would love to go back just to see them!

Conan was always delightfully helpful every morning to seat us for breakfast and test my evolving spanish 'skills' and our housekeeper Flor Angel was very diligent and attentive to our needs for anything in the room.

They have free wifi in the lobby which is quite fine to check email each day and stay in touch without the need for international call/data gouges...

The only drawback is a rather menial one. Food. You don't go to the Caribbean for the food, I think the best food (4.5 out of 5 in my opinion) was the steakhouse and the blue marlin (seafood), as well as the breakfast. Their takes on Italian and Japanese are okay but if you are used to a high quality cuisine in either of these two areas you may be a bit disappointed, but I certainly commend them for trying to cater to all the different areas of food rather than just setup a generic buffet line like cruise ships tend to do. On the whole, the food was above average in most respects, with the occasional disappointing entree but honestly- it's all inclusive, you don't like something, don't eat it, and order something else.

The weather was just gorgeous, breathtaking landscape and beach which are maintained very well by the grounds-keeping staff, everything is very clean and picturesque. The breeze was perfect in every way each day, the entire resort faces to the east so waking up to see the sunrise is both easy and worthwhile.

Truly an amazing resort, would certainly go back for the weather, the above average food (heard from others that there is worse to be found in the Caribbean), and most importantly of all- The people. Everyone is happy to see you and there was never a doubt in my mind that they indeed wanted to help in any way they could to make our vacation excellente!

I was surprised to see people quoting names in their reviews of this place and indeed find myself doing the same only because of the (if only brief) relationship you build by seeing them each day (the staff doesn't change very often so you get to know the people more than you would elsewhere or like on cruise)....LG, Woody, Carlos, Conan, Flor, Emilio, all made our vacation so much more enjoyable but truly everyone is worth getting to know here and incredibly friendly.

*a note on Punta Cana: flying into punta cana, you really are 10-15 min away, and the roads do not make one reminisce of the term 'third-world'. The location in proximity to the airport is close enough, but not too close (never saw or heard one plane while at the resort), and the roads are maintained quite well (although I would recommend hiring transportation rather than renting a car and 'doing it yourself' because the roads are not so well marked and taxis are expensive), 'Cap Cana' is a private area in that you go through a security checkpoint but nothing like Mexico where they're carrying loaded machine guns or anything....in Punta Cana you're truly in the 'tourist zone', was never fearful for our safety...

Room Tip: if you don't like to be around kids or are wanting a more romantic time- The castle is 'adul...

unfortunately, came to the sanctuary as a guest from luxury villa only for one day for lunch and completely lamented staying at luxury because only in a few hours at sanctuary I had the fun that I haven't had at luxury in 5 days. The staff was excellent, everything a resort should be. waiters kept coming constantly to take our orders, something that never occurred at the luxury, instead we had to go back and forth every time we wanted something to eat or drink. Also the entertainment was like no other, Woody the entertainer really knows his stuff and most importantly loves what he does, if you don't have a ball with this guy you have to be absolutely insane. The food at the mariners was the best, we ordered paella and basically left the tray completely clean! we had such a wonderful time that begged our hotel (the luxury) the let us come back to the sanctuary the same day also for dinner and got them to make an exception and agree to let us return for dinner. Next time I travel will definitely be staying at the sanctuary, which is the best out of the 3 properties.

The Sanctuary is an amazing resort..The service was excellent.. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.. The food was above average! We love the Blue Marlin.. The seafood paella was incredible. The Steakhouse was also above par.

We stayed in a Villa Collection ocean view.. It was like our own private paradise. It was very private and the butlers kept our mini bar stocked! We walked around the property and would also recommend staying in The Castle swim outs and the Beachfront suites.. The Villa Collection is our first choice.. They offer a very private patio area with views of the ocean, separate living area and large bathroom.

This Is an Amazing Resort..

We just returned yesterday to 12 degree weather. We miss the friendly staff already. We were a little concerned when we were reading the reviews but if you notice the recent reviews have been good. Our experience was great from the checkin, which was so fast, to our first drink at the castle bar. We stayed in the castle and highly recommend it. There are so many places to go and sit and enjoy all the views. The staff member that we loved was Alferdo he was the bartender at the castle bar the first couple of nights we were there. Also a women at the beach/ pool bar I think her name was Demtria she was so sweet one of the guest gave her a Green bay Packers hat. Boy did that make her smile. My husband is very picky about food and he enjoyed it. We are already looking forward to next Feb and we will be back. Beautiful, friendly relaxing place to stay. I will also recommend to many of my friends who like to get out of the cold. Thank you everyone at the Sanctuary you made our short time off wonderful!

Room Tip: we liked the honeymoon suite very nice

We stayed at Sanctuary Cap Cana Feb.2014. Just a beautiful place on earth! Clean and wonderful people that gave you everything you needed and more. The food could have been improved. Breakfast and Lunch were excellent! Specialty restaurants need a little work, but overall good. The staff went out of their way to make you comfortable and your stay memorable. Would love to return here someday..........

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to a villa, we were not sure what we were going to have, but this was wonderful...

This might be architecturally the most fascinating resort I have ever been to. The food for all inclusive is very good with plenty of choices. Very quiet and safe location in Cap Cana. A special thanks to Josue, a manager who seemed to be everywhere and Conan and Jhonny, who addressed us at all times by name and helped make this visit great.
Great choices for places to eat with no restrictions found at other all inclusive resorts. Plenty of bars with great atmosphere and very uncrowded.

Room Tip: All rooms seem to have an ocean view although some better than others

We just returned from five days at the Sanctuary Cap Cana resort in Punta Cana. There were many positives which include: the beautifully kept grounds, easy access to all of the facilities and restaurants (and I am disabled so this was important), friendly staff (especially LG, Maria and Paolo), the pools were clean and well kept, the food overall was quite good, the Love Bar staff and bartender were excellent, and for being booked there was never a wait to dine and many quiet corners to sit and relax. The view of the pool and beach is spectacular and the weather - warm, sunny and gorgeous! The check in process was slow and unfortunately they did not have the rooms we had booked - so we ended up in the Castle for one night. I would not recommend staying in the Castle - unless maybe you have booked a super fancy room - which we were not in. The Castle smells of sulfur and the rooms we were in were dank and not updated. However, due to not getting the rooms we booked the first night, we ended up in villas, which are beautiful. We highly recommend the villas. The pool bar staff is somewhat cranky and slow. You can wait 20 min for a drink and the drinks are very inconsistent - some pina coladas taste good and some are not drinkable. If you are looking for wifi - the main building is your best bet. Buying the extra tickets for wifi is not worth it - they don't work. I also would NOT recommend eating at the Blue Marlin - the food is inedible. The view is amazing - so don't miss the sunrise or sunset on the pier! Have a drink and sit on the comfy chairs on the pier. Best for breakfast and lunch are the main restaurant - in the main building. Lunch buffet is yummy as are the omelets and fruit for breakfast! No need to pack soap and shampoo, the rooms are fully equipped - although my hair dryer did not work. Washcloths are scarce though - but we ended up taking them from the restrooms in the main building for our rooms. The rooms are somewhat inconsistent as well - you don't always get more water in the fridge, clean towels and our friends did not have tp. We learned to tip when the server deserved - not always. If a server was cranky or rolled their eyes - no tip. This did not happen often as most of the staff are super friendly and speak english! Sanctuary Cap Cana is very close to the airport - probably 15 minutes - which is wonderful - we enjoyed time on the beach the day we left! Be sure to get up early and put your towels out on chairs - we are pretty sure people kept their towels from the day before and put out their towels at 6am! Chairs are hard to come by if you wait. And grab an umbrella - it is a must as the sun is strong! Finally, it is vacation - and it is the DR - not the US - so relax as the service is slow sometimes - we figured they operate on Dominican time...Enjoy!!!

Room Tip: the Villas are beautiful
